Wybie is two different people, the one with the buttons is the Wybie mother created for Coraline a "better" verison of Wybie one that doesn't talk the talking Wybie is a totally different character. Wybie in mothers world was similar to the father of that world and the rats just things made up to impress Coraline. Now on the timeline, good question it seems like Coraline was gone for days with the rotten groceries but it seems like no time had past when she went to mothers world at night so I was a bit confused there also. And the doll Wybie gave Coraline use to look like his grandmother's sister, then the other kids, the doll changes based on who the mother wants to prey on wants to spy on. And yes this movie scared me really bad as a kid I wanted to leave the theater when my mom took me LOL. But now as an adult its one of my favorite movies.
