Yeah, I don't mind having many distros, because, really you don't have that much choice as a beginner, the same names keep cropping up, it's Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Arch and that's about it, the rest aren't necessarily pushed to beginners. For tools, though, it's annoying. Multiple calendar or email apps? Sure. Multiple installers? Why do we need that. This is a solved problem :)

The Linux Experiment

Fedora has really been putting in the work on the user experience, and it has shown. However, I 100% agree that I wish there was just a common installer for Linux distros. The problem is FOSS in general, everyone has an idea on how best to do it, so we get the same thing we get with distros themselves, too many of them.
