I think this can work with a nice standard procedure, something like "do what you want in there, but the only way to push it in the Stable repo is if X members of the project sign off on its design / its current status". Depending on how many people are behind each protocol, they could prioritize things relatively easily, it's not like everyone and their grandma is going to try to extend Wayland!

I wonder if adding third party Wayland protocols isn't going to turn Wayland into X11 as time goes on, is there enough manpower to review and vet the added protocols?
