Twitter revenue sharing, TLE Projects and the weird reason I'm gaming again - Patroncast S03E06
Added 2023-02-06 11:01:26 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
I hope you're all doing well! Here is episode 6 of the third season of the patroncast!
In this one, I talk about:
- 00:48 Twitter Revenue Sharing: the new plan to let creators get a cut of Twitter ads based on the replies on their Tweets, and how that's probably not a great idea to fight toxicity and inflammatory tweets
- 07:41 The channel, the podcast, and the website, and how I'm moving forward on these projects
- 17:57 Another episode of "my brain is weird", and why I'm loving gaming again, based on which device I play which game on
I hope you enjoy listening to this one!
Best,
Nick

True, it might just be a case of beng able to articulate that preference, or at least analyze it! It's still a nice reminder that the best software won't feel right unless the hardware it runs on is also good, and vice versa!

The difference is you have had a career in tools development (software) and now run a channel based on analysis of and reporting on tools. So you are better able to articulate _why_ you like one tool (software + hardware) better than another. Others feel the same, but generally don’t explore more tool combos or try to explain beyond “I just like it better”. With my in-home streaming setup I have the exact same considerations. The upside here is I have a broader selection of clients (as anything which can run the stream will run the game identically) so I get to focus exclusively on client form-factor.

Making more money is OK if it also means your users will have a good time, but in this case, I can only see more and more people leaving Twitter: people who don't pay for Blue will get more ads, and they won't have any interaction, as their tweets and replies aren't prioritized by the algorithm, and users who pay and want revenue sharing will make more and more weird tweets to get more replies and ads. So, in the end, the platform will be split between paying customers that post inflammatory stuff, and non paying stuff that try and reply but can't be seen by anyone, and end up leaving. It's basically going to turn into a nice echo chamber for Twitter Blue customers
