GNOME is finally a good platform, and Youtube's stupid "more ads" test - Patroncast S02E37

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all doing well!

Here is Episode 37 of the weekly podcast!

In this one, I talk about:

- 01:05 GNOME as a platform: I think GNOME + Libadwaita finally gives Linux the good developer platform we've lacked for a long while, with consistency, polish, and tools that developers seem to be willing to take advantage of.
- 20:30 Youtube testing playing from 5 to 10 unskippable ads at the beginning of the video, instead of having a mix of pre-roll and mid-roll ads, and why I think it would be a truly terrible decision for viewers and creators.

I hope you enjoy listening to this one!

Best,
Nick

Just access via yewtu.be (an invidious instance) - and DNS via nextdns.io (essentially a pi-hole and some more in a free service) : ads are gone! Another tip for Andoid users: NewPipe, kills everything that is not inside the creators' video. More, but off topic, "escapes" : Insta without logging in: pixwox.com or imginn.com ; twitter without logging in: nitter.net . Blocking ads and tracking is maybe not kind to everyone, but the ad-world has taken it too far, IMHO.

Yeah, it really makes you want to stick around, right ?

The Linux Experiment

There is nothing better than FIVE unskippable adverts back to back before you get to the video you want to watch 🤦‍♂️
