Exclusive Weekly Patroncast #32 - Windows 11?

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all doing fine, personally, I'm waiting for tomorrow for my second and hopefully final Covid vaccine shot :)

Here is your exclusive weekly patroncast, and this time, we only have one topic: Windows 11, its major features, and how they stack up compared to what we've been doing on Linux for a while.

Spoiler alert: they're doing some stuff better than we are.

I hope you enjoy listening to this week's episode :)

Not in a user friendly manner :) Windows lets you tile from the window itself, and keep floating windows on too. With pop, it’s all or nothing, and they don’t offer « pre-made » layouts that let you select from your current open windows: they’re going to tile every window you have, or none :)

The Linux Experiment

You said Linux should implement tiling with mouse the way Windows 11 did. But Pop OS already does that.

Yeah, PWAs are cool if there is no native app available, but I'll always prefer something native and more lightweight :) I tried installing as an app for Notion and Cryptee, and they both worked pretty well!

The Linux Experiment

On top of Android apps, Windows is also pushing PWApps integration and (as a web developer) I find that very cool. I know some people don't like web-based applications (whether PWA or Electron-based) but, if coded correctly, you can have a very nice experience and be cross-platform out of the box. I haven't tried to "install as an app" a website on Linux yet but might give it a try if I find a suitable website with enough PWA features available.
