I suspect it's just failing of Miles' nine-year-old vocabulary. "Layer" kind of caught my eye, too.

But, as a harshly educated/raised verbal jerk.... the word is traditionally spelled lair. Please forgive me, it's a compulsion, but not a hostile one.
