I think whithouse definitely has potential but he wasn’t a good show runner in his own productions like being human. Mathieson did a terrible job with the girl who died, I agree, but he proved with oxygen that when he’s left alone to do his own stuff then he can be an excellent writer, not Moffat/RTD tier but someone who can at least write decent doctor who.

I'm not sure Mathieson would be the best choice, just because of The Girl Who Died/Woman Who Lived episodes (which were garbage) but actually thinking up a replacement's hard. Nobody topped Moffat in the Davies era, and he proved to be an ok showrunner. I'll have to mull that idea over, cos I have no suggestions for a replacement. Maybe Toby Whithouse? Idk
