Death House 2.5 (22x32, 200px)

Edit 18/01/2022: Updated to standardize formats and style!

Original Post:

You can download all my previous Curse of Strahd maps, including my original Complete Curse of Strahd Map Pack and my Curse of Strahd 2.0 map pack here. The Curse of Strahd 2.0 map pack is still underway, but I will occasionally be updating the maps to be consistent with changes in style as the pack progresses. I'm also going to start hosting my maps on Patreon, so I'll likely be providing ZIP files on my posts going forward.

This is an experiment in style - I have updated the lighting effects to better match those I'm using in later maps in the Curse of Strahd 2.0 pack, I've employed some techniques I've picked up over the last few months to improve the map's aesthetic, and I've used Photoshop to recolor the maps to better reflect how I envision the locations for my own game. Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated - I'm still figuring a lot of this stuff out! For comparison, this is the original Death House 2.0.

I've also switched formats as I felt I was losing too much information with the 128 pixels per square exports, so my maps will now be 200 pixels per square JPGs, except for the UVTT files, and the upper floors of any map will be provided as PNGs for use in Foundry. I could have provided WebP files, but PNGs are easier to work with where the recoloring through Photoshop is concerned.

For those who missed the message I sent to my Patrons, I've been feeling really burnt-out with maps after the marathon it took to finish Argynvostholt and, frankly, the fact that my maps simply aren't performing very well in the channels I post them to, so I'm not seeing any growth in the project. As such, I'm going to be taking a step back, and I'll be working on completing my maps in my own time, prioritizing the aesthetic I want for my own game. If the Patreon kicks off and there's sufficient demand for different approaches, I will implement them, but until that happens, I think it'll be better for me to prioritize my own well-being. This is why I've changed the payment method for my Patreon to 'Per Map' - this way, my Patrons will only be charged when I'm actually producing content. For now, though, none of the maps or tokens I'll be posting will instigate a charge until November, just to give my existing Patrons time to set whatever limits they would like to set on their payments (so please, remember to check the status of your payments and set whatever limits you would like).

My maps are made primarily with assets from Forgotten Adventures and AoA (bolstered with assets of my own making here and there), and they come with grid/gridless, day/night, and light/lightless variants, plus JPEGs or UVTTs and transparent layers (PNGs or WebP, map depending) for Foundry VTT.

Hi Chance! Sorry for the delay on that fix - things became absurdly hectic for a few months earlier this year, so it completely slipped my mind. The WebP for the attic now includes that roof ledge - let me know if that's alright!

is there an update on this?

Ah, curious - I'd swear I fixed this exact issue at some point or another... Maybe I only fixed it for the JPEGs and missed that it was a problem for the WebP files as well? I'll try to get on this ASAP, Sven - thanks for letting me know! :)

I found a small error in the WEBP Exports. The Small Roof between the Attic and 2nd Floor is missing - I marked it here - https://i.imgur.com/UXXjcA7.png When you stack the layers in FVTT you can see into the bottom floor there :D

Hi Victoria! Unfortunately, my maps were made with virtual table tops in mind, rather than printing. Several people have printed my maps despite that fact and reported good results, but I'm afraid I don't know what sizes they used to do so. I'll see if I can find one of those people and ask how they went about it - sorry I can't be of more help!

Hi! What size paper would you print these on?

Victoria Riley

Well we are hopeless together because I can 100% relate to the desire to re-do old maps. I still have a lot more to do in CoS so that's the only thing keeping me from going back... but one day!

Ah, this is actually a fantastic opportunity to talk about the Forgotten Adventures assets I mentioned on your post! So, with Dungeondraft, you have a Pattern Shape Tool, which is typically for floors and whatnot. FA assets have a bunch of different textures you can use with the tool, including their roofing (I mentioned the roof-drawing tool isn't great, and I *much* prefer just using the Pattern Shape Tool). So, I just select the roof type I want, change the rotation so it's facing the right direction, and I draw the shape I want, then outline it with the line they include in the path tool's assets, and darken the sides that are getting a little less light. The temptation to go over everything you've done before is the worst - I already finished Curse of Strahd. I could have left it there. But no, I got really into Forgotten Adventures assets and said 'How long could it take? Two months?' I was so very wrong. And then I decided to do it again, albeit on a smaller scale, with the CoS 2.5 maps. I'm utterly hopeless.

Did you build that roof from assets? If so it looks fantastic! I think roofs get overlooked by map makers and I can speak from experience that building roofs can be a pain in the butt. I especially love the "widows walk" (I think it's called) on top of the roof as well. I would like to create a Death House 2.0 for myself as well and I think this time around I will just focus on a singular floor per map rather than try and build all four floors onto a single map. I'm getting to the point where I want to re-do my older maps SO bad!
