An Experiment in Style & Questions Regarding the Future of Aonbarr Cartography

Recently I've been considering leaving behind the default Dungeondraft assets in favor of making more detailed, more realistic looking maps using third party asset packs.

This map of a cabin in the woods is the end result of some experimentation with assets from Forgotten Adventures and Tom Cartos, and I'm pretty happy with the results. It does, however, raise some questions that I'd like to pose to my patrons:

How do you think I should proceed? A significant part of me is tempted to go back over all of my Curse of Strahd maps in this style, but that would take me weeks of work. Further still, for the remaining supplementary maps I want to work on (for example, the maps for areas added to the module by DragnaCarta and MandyMod that I hope to work on soon), should I stick to the style of the previous Curse of Strahd maps, or would you prefer if I adapted to this new style? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, either in a comment below or in a private message, if you'd prefer!

I don't think there ever was a gridless version for this one - it was just an experiment rather than a fully-fledged map.

I'm just going to restart here and grab everything in 200ppi.. I just noticed, there is no gridless version of the cabin?

Thanks Joe - I'm having a lot of fun putting Death House together and learning what I can do with these assets. I should be able to post it within a day or two, all going well! :)

I think that this style looks great and if you are happier with the outcomes, then you certainly aren't going to hear any complaints from me. Good work.

I'm glad to hear that! I think I'm going to pursue it further, so watch this space!

I love this new look and would die for seeing the CoS module in that style - although it surely is a lot of work...

Thank you, Andy! I do love variants - I think I just didn't really like the results I was getting when I tried making day and night maps in Dungeondraft, but I quite like how things are turning out with FA and TC assets, so day/night variants might show up more often going forward!

I think this is a great direction! If you are happy with the progress and loving what you do, it will show in your work and I'm excited to see where this goes. Offering different versions and variants of maps is great to reach everyone's needs. And I'll say, ever d&d game needs a cabin in the woods! haha :) Keep up the great work!
