Quick notes about Patreon stuff

🥬1: Patreon is forcing all their creators to change over to a "subscription" billing model where you get billed on the monthly anniversary of whenever you signed up, NOT on the 1st of the month. me personally I prefer to keep it on the 1st of the month but.... unfortunately, Patreon is taking that option away in November 😑 it won't cost you anything more at all, and hopefully won't disrupt anything for you, but I wanted you guys to have a heads up.
🥬2: I'm going to try out a new feature they're adding to Patreon which is doing automated promotional offers to you guys to see if you want to move up a tier. so I'll set up a discount and the site will send messages to people now and then offering the discount if you want to bump up your tier. I want to hear back from you guys though - does this sound like spam?? does this seem annoying? I will totally drop it if that's how it's gonna feel to receive. I thought maybe getting a discount offer could be cool and remind you that moving up is an option that exists, that's why I'm thinking of trying this out.
🥬3: Apple app store has just started to charge an enormous premium (+30%) to people who sign up for a NEW Patreon subscription through the app on iOS. it's my understand that if you're already signed up, this won't cost you anything more - only applies to new subs, or upgrades to a higher tier. if any of you are on apple platforms I am begging you not to use the app if you want to subscribe, or you want to move up a tier!! avoid that premium!! you can get around it by signing up/upgrading your tier on a web browser instead.
🥬4: I just sent out a wave of DMs for the 1-year and 2-year anniversary special paintings, Seamus and Coach! if you reached 1 or 2 year membership milestones this month, check your inbox! if not, don't worry, I'll keep sending these out at the start of every month so when your anniversary milestone rolls around, I'll get it to you then. if it seems like I missed you by accident just shoot me a message!! my system for sending out these links is highly imperfect lol😅

2024-09-05 16:54:42 +0000 UTCoh dont apologize, I love this kinda feedback from you guys!! helps me make better decisions about what you'll like and what you won't. based on what you said and a couple of the other guys, I'm definitely now leaning away from using Patreon's automated promotions-offer system and instead doing posts of my own maybe a couple times a year.

2024-09-05 01:36:50 +0000 UTCwell, can't say apple is surprising me with their greed, as for Patreon changing billing, I was under the impression they weren't going to change existing subs, only have new ones go by the sub date. It will be mildly frustrating if they do backdate that. Of course, it just means waiting to make changes to our subs on the 1st, instead of making changes whenever, I'd hate to cancel any subs, even for a day or two. Granting existing Patreons a promotional discount on tier increases sounds nice, but I would suggest not doing it too often, and by tier-locked posts, rather than messages or built in promotion systems. You'll have more control over the discounts you offer, and avoid the potential for irritating monetization emails. And sorry, didn't mean to write an essay! 💜

2024-09-04 20:04:59 +0000 UTCFrom my personal experience, I wouldn’t be bothered by promo messages as long as they’re kinda rare, maybe no more than quarterly. But even monthly notices after a while would irk me.
