I tried a little something different with the style here, exaggerating cartoon proportions and stuff. I think people seemed to respond well to that.

Are we in a pickle?

It can be difficult to know whether or not you're suffering a little memory lapse, or you're in a Protocol 44.

There's a series on youtube made by some independent film makers "There is No Anti Memetics Division" which is pretty neat. It's set in the SCP organization and deals largely with dangerous SCP anomalies that mess with memory. These SCP generally resist people being able to remember them. A very dangerous thing, even in a relatively SAFE environment.

I'm not TOTALLY satisfied with these. I just wanted to see if I could settle on a color for Billie. But after seeing this take again, I think my original instinct that Billie is blonde feels more right. I'll have to approach her colors again someday. A couple of elements, like the pattern on her "saddle" blanket, could stand to be finalized. Then there's the idea that her centaur body could be partially made from repurposed parts. And, of course, there's figuring out just how Billie fits into...

Well, you're just gonna have to sit there a while lookin pretty while I work on this thing, it could be a while. I'd tell ya not to go anywhere, but I'm sure you don't need me saying so.

Colette has always been a little accident-prone, and coming up with a universe where all it takes to fix is some elbow grease and spare parts is... well, it has its appeal.

Now that's buggin me...

I like this universe because it's totally easy for me just to go... "hey, here are some robot centipede monsters that can put our heroines in trouble." And sometimes, you just need a universe where that can happen. I think it's a little like Horizon Zero Dawn in that way, though I don't have a super science reason for why animals have been replaced with robots and stuff (so far). I just think they're neat!

Subject Escaped (cw: some violence)

I keep wondering about how... sexy to make this villain. The design is definitely a little sexy, dangerous, and bloody. The blades, latex, and dress fit a comic booky universe and look cool together. But sometimes, the subject matter for SAFE and the SCP-esque universe I've been working on feels more grounded in reality.

I think... I should embrace it. I probably wouldn't have fun drawing the SAFE universe if it didn't have its share of black latex.

Been hitting the gym?

I wanted to experiment a little more with that new agent character, and I focused more on making her bigger and more sturdy. It seemed like there were a few positive responses to this new direction. At the very least, it gives us a little variety in body shapes.

Ultra ultra ultra

Just my own take on an Ultrawoman, that I sketched up after watching Ultraman Rising. It's pretty fun! I like the overall aesthetic choices and I think if I continue working on Big Help I can use some more of the alien lines and influences to make Big Help's outfit stand out more. I'm just thinking about Big Help, probably because I watched Ultraman Rising on Netflix! It's a pretty good flick—heck, it's a great flick even. The story isn't the most unique story on earth, but the animation is wonderful. I have a bit of fan art that I'll post for Friday, but suffice it to say it got me interested in checking out more Ultraman content, as I'm generally a fan of Kaiju stuff anyway.

I'm working on another character for the SAFE setting but I'm not quite settled on her design yet. There are some things I like, like the obvious bits with the tired eyes. I like the little marks on her face. But I'm not settled on her hair or her build yet. I originally thought about making her bigger and I might head back to that idea. Anyway, I don't know what she looks like yet but I do have some concepts for her as a person.

(I feel like I say that every few months but it's true again) To that end, pushing things more and experimenting and studying and learning should help more and more in future art. Man I love Goldie. I gotta figure out a way to put her into one of the universes I want to work on. I like her, and I like superheroes. But I don't currently have an interest in making a superhero universe. If I can find some way to fit her into the vibe of the SCP universe or something, then maybe I could get away with it. Anyway, I was out this weekend for a spur-of-the-moment trip to North Carolina and Heroes Convention. I met a lot of cool artists there! Not the least was my friend PunchyNinja, whom I went out to meet and support. It was a heck of a show. I hadn't had that much fun at a con in a while. It was just really nice and creator-focused. It got me interested in tabling again....

A guest and the boss

A couple more expression sheets! Director Fairbanks and Penelope are a couple of my favorite characters and even if I don't actually make this a comic, you can be sure to see them now and then. I consider Penelope as the "first guest" of the SAFE program in that universe. Basically Fairbanks sees Penelope as, ultimately, a normal nerdy teenager and even as an anomalous living being she has earned a chance to be as normal as Fairbanks' powers can provide.
