Good News and Bad News

First, the bad news. Today's page of The Sprawl may be late. I probably won't get it online until tomorrow. This is due to a number of issues, such as the fact that I'm trying to get a temporary job going for a bit to help build up my finances, but one of the other major issues that has lead to today's page being late is also the Good News.

Unfortunately not a lot of news this week. Still job hunting, still trying to keep on top of my freelance work.

For the couple of you still waiting on commissions, extra thanks for being so patient. I'm going to make a push to get some done this week. There's 3 in my queue and I'm not taking any more on until all 3 are done.

I was not happy with the Magnetic Lift high speed lift's sound effect in yesterday's page but was exhausted after working on it all night. After sleeping on it I decided to have another go at it and I'm much happier with the results.

I'll be updating the page on the website, too.

LOG:05 - Page 6

Sorry about the lateness of the high-res page. RL has kept me so busy that I didn't get to start this page until about 8pm last night, and since I wanted to redo the story flow I had to come up with it from scratch. So here we are 28 hours later with a finished page.

The next few pages are completely roughed out, tho, so that should go more smoothly. Also, I'm not in quite a scramble to get new work in. Right now I have three comic jobs in progress and one other freelance job also in progress....

September Update

Hi everyone,

 Sorry I don't have the next page up early for you. I will be posting the high-res version here just as soon as the page is done tomorrow. Between job hunting, trying to keep on top of bills, and doctor appointments I've just been stretched really thin. But I managed to get enough work going to carry me through the next month or two so things should be a little bit easier at least that long.

Page 6 is almost done, I plan to finish it first thing when I wake up to...well...

LOG:05 - Page 5 + News

Here's the newest page and a little bit of an update.

First, I did not lose my health insurance! So that's good.

I did however lose 4 big freelance clients all at once, as in they pulled out on jobs before I was able to even start. These are jobs I'd lined up to carry me through the next few months. So I've been scrambling.

A part of that scramble has been to look for more steady, reliable employment. I'm burnt out hard on the freelance life. So in addition to trying to make enough...

Author Update

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I've decided to move towards bi-weekly updates for The Sprawl. That's one page every other week. So things will slow down for a while but not stop completely.

 I hate to do it but due to health issues I'm struggling on the financial side of things and I keep slipping further behind. So rather than let it get so bad comic updates just stop, I'm going to slow things down to where I can keep on top of it all.

Update on the Artist

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates. Things got derailed seriously this month.

Long story short, I'm in the middle of being treated for some health issues, and yet might be losing my health insurance. It's not total panic mode yet, I have to send the state more documentation and my regular doctor is referring me to a specialist so as long as I can keep the insurance going and see the specialist, I should be good. I think.

At minimum I want to complete 2 more pages before The Sprawl returns to regular updates on the 18th.

I'm currently waiting to hear back from another publisher about a print edition of The Sprawl, but I imagine AC this weekend is going to push that until sometime next week. I won't be attending the con myself but I hope any of you who do have a great time!

LOG:05 - page 3

Here's the third page of the new chapter.

Public posts resume in two weeks so I'm hoping to at least get 2 more pages finished in that time, but I have the first 10 pages roughed out. I'm hoping to get more than that done as it's one of the later pages in this set that I want to use as the LOG:05 title page, but if I don't get that far I'll just post a temporary title page at first then go back and add the real title page later.

This heatwave is kicking my ass. I'm just not built for hot...

The plot thickens.

Now that the outline has been revamped and most of the concept art has been done (more of that coming later), pages should be coming out at a fairly regular pace. My goal is 2 pages a week, but I've also still got to finish off some commissions, and I'm still taking on freelance work to pay the bills, so we'll see how well I manage that 2 pages/week goal.

LOG:05 WIP Sneak Peek

Here's a snippet from one of the LOG:05 pages I've roughed out so far. Still catching up on commissions and freelance but I've got about 5 pages of the new chapter roughed out and hope to have more done this weekend.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before but I love the size differences between the various characters and love panels that show just how much larger/smaller some characters are.

Science Division Hazard Suit Concept

We'll be seeing a lot more of the Science Division in LOG:05 so I'm fleshing out some designs for them. Here's the initial concept for their standard hazard suit. My goal is to give them a shape that looks alien at a glance, but that a character could fit into and have it make sense.

Concept To Final Design

Reposting a couple of old pieces to show how concept art doesn't always translate directly to the designs that make it into the comic. Above is one of the earlier ideas for the "cyberdemon" seen at the end of LOG:03

Reposting some old concept art. This is stuff I posted way, way back in 2016, when I was wrapping up LOG:03 and still hammering out the outline and designs for LOG:04. At the time I wasn't sure if LOG:04 would be the final chapter, or if this part of the story would end up so large that I'd have to break it into multiple chapters.

Slightly late, but it's still Wednesday! 

I haven't gotten word yet on when the Katbox After Dark pages will be fixed but I do know a fix is in the works. So, hopefully soon, the site won't be spamming dozens upon dozens of pages on every update.

One more page! Then LOG:04 will be complete and we'll dive into the second part of this arc.

State of Snowdon Update

Hey everyone,

 Just a quick update. I'd hoped to be pulling ahead on rebuilding my buffer by now, as I posted in previous months, but my grandfather's death and some other personal issues have caused me to fall further behind. I have the remainder of the chapter roughed out so I should be able to stay on top for at least that long.

We're nearing the end of the chapter so it's kinda hard not to make the pages super detailed.

On a side note, the final page of LOG:04 has been roughed out. We're almost there. 

April Pages 66 & 67

Here's the first two pages for this month. This week I'm roughing out the next batch of pages but after that there should be more pages.

We're getting very close to the end of this chapter, but not the end of this arc. Like the previous arc, this one will be multiple chapters, but I think you'll be very excited for LOG:05 when you see the final page of LOG:04

Here's another background used in the previous page (as well as the upcoming pages). The ad poster says "Pucco" with the "o" looking like a power pellet. Obviously reference to Pac-Man's original name "Puc Man". The cut off ad poster is actually the picture of Samus I did way back when Metroid: Samus Returns came out.
