As always, I'll be taking some time to plan the next chapter- I have a fair bit to do this time, I need to do more of the script than usual. So with that in mind, I'll be back with more pages in 2 weeks! The $3 tier will get the usual outfit and background concepts, and I'll share some older process/concepts for the $1 tier to keep you going <3.

The Hermit and the Hiker thumbnails

I know this step isn't the most exciting, but I thought I would share a little nonetheless! I'm trying to be a lot more detailed and thoughtful with these, because I'll probably have to understand them months down the line :P.  I'm also taking the time to lay out smaller versions of the double page spreads, with the speech and character laid out, so that I can see the flow better.

Definitely need to pay more attention to speech bubble flow here, it jumps about too much unnecessarily! Its not a huge deal but I want to get better at it.

Another page tomorrow, and I'll post some hermit and hiker thumbnails too so you can see what I've been working on!

Hermit & Hiker- ink experiments

I really felt that the grey I've been using was too flat alone, so I've been experimenting more with textures and gradients, and I'm pretty happy with how it makes it look a lot more deep and polished.
I think I've reached a point where my style is consistent, so this will probably be the last post on this project for a while! The next step is thumbnailing, which sadly isn't very exciting to show, though I might share a little of it!

Hi all! Thanks for your patience during my week off, I had a good break, finally got a lot of things ticked off my to-do list, and got chance to watch some shows I'd been eyeing up for a while :P. (expect The Untamed fanart in this months sketchbook, I'm almost finished and I'm very soft for these boys)

Howl's Moving Castle screencap redraw 2!

Here's the monthly poll winner! I traced the basic shapes before I started colouring- because there's nothing worse than getting to the edge and realising you've not got room for an object (etc). You can see I didn't trace each individual object, but I outlined where the stacks ended and began, and where the plates were, etc! You can also see my first face attempt, which felt too squashed :P.

I missed an opportunity to have the cat sniffing the catmint u-u, I'm a fool.

Also, having a cat myself now, and staring at her all day has definitely increased my cat drawing abilities. However, I still cannot for the LIFE of me remember which way the legs go.

I gave Sylvia and Jerry a bengal way before I realised how complex it would be to paint. My limited palette is now 50% cat 

Just a heads up- I'm going to take next week off from making pages, I'll be getting the sketchbooks out  early in the week- but I've been overworking, doing Charity Case, the Hermit and the Hiker concepts, and commissions, and I need a bit of a breather! (I'll still very likely be doing some work, but not Officially :P)

Hermit & Hiker- Val's house concepts 4 & ink experiments

More ink experiments at the end! Every time I think 'yes, finally, I've got the style right this time' I find problems or I can't recreate what I did -_-! It's so out of my comfort zone, and I don't think I'm happy with any of these :S

Comics is a lot about embracing what you can do right now, instead of pushing every boundary at once. I sometimes learn a new thing or try really hard to get things right, other times, like this page, I just wing it and hope. But it does its job to convey the story and I decided it was a battle I didn't want to fight :P.
