Weekly Update - 278 - 7/7/25

Lightning tail.

So here's the sitch! The husband and I are heading back into the city today (staying the night, driving back home tomorrow) for more medical tests. These are planned ones, not new or even very interesting ones, but neurology is apparently complicated, whodathunk. Also I think these are the last tests on the schedule... for now. Then my parents are coming to visit before the end of the week, and they'll be staying by us for a while so I want to spoil them while they're here. As a result, I'm not going to commit to posting comics this week or next.

I may still get one or two done, or I might dabble a bit with the Nick fanart bonus art because I'll probably find SOME time to draw... But I'm not going to make any promises at this point because the future is hard to predict and I don't get a lot of opportunities these days to spend quality time with my family.

So... comics this week (11th)? Certainly not. First half of this week is medical stuff the second half is family. That takes priority.

Next week? Maybe. I like drawing and I hate skipping two weeks in a row, so it'll depend on a lot of things. I'll reevaluate next Monday and let y'all know!

Weekly Update - 277 - 6/30/25

Last week was a lot. The good news is they FINALLY seem to be on to something with the husband's medical issues and it's also probably something treatable. Again, it wasn't anything life-threatening but it's baffled no shortage of doctors over several years now and whatever it is (we know now probably nerve/spine related) it's affecting his QoL quite a bit, so getting it treated would be amazing! Any promising new leads on that front is very good news!

Anyway. When we got back from all the stuffs I felt this intense need to draw my moss piglet-brained foxcatbatmew chimera thingy and make her part dragon too, so I did! I haven't talked about this creature a lot, largely because I've been worried that if I define her too firmly, it will remove her from what she's meant to represent, but I feel like I might have finally found an angle I can lean more into that won't also restrict or diminish her.

To simplify what she ACTUALLY is, apart from being just a nonsensical foxcatbatmewdragonchimera puree, I'm thinking of just calling her a Kakuyou (描妖) Which, by my understanding, is a made-up term that might express her nature of being like a drawn/painted/sketched spirit/being. Fitting, I feel, and maybe even a little meta, given that she exists only in art. So if she's a spirit that can exist only when drawn, then maybe drawing her is where she gets her power? There's also some youkai themes I might lean into a bit more with her too, simply because I am granting myself the freedom to do so. Dunno! It's all just a silly thought train I've been riding for only a few days -- in the end it all gives me a reason to want to draw her more often!

Why is she chained up? Why is she so pissed off? Why is she wearing a bell? And why is Pyre eating her own hand?

Weekly Update - 276 - 6/23/25

Today's previews are butts. Different stages of butts and at different angles. Because reasons. Butt reasons. Whose butts are those? One is probably obvious, but the rougher butt spoilers are in the tags. And Snake is also a buttface. So that counts.

But seriously, check out that armor! I tried some new things with it. I maybe even learned some new things! That's always exciting.

But this week's schedule has gone all helter-skelter due to my husband's medical tests -- it's nothing dire, at least we hope not, but because we live in the wilderness we have to travel quite a ways to reach sufficient technologically-equipped facilities to perform specific advanced tests, and due to multiple tests being done it's become a multiple day journey to avoid packing in way too many hours of driving into one single day, which has resulted in finnuckling the week's schedule all around. I don't feel like trying to work myself to death to ALSO squirnch in enough hours of drawing so that I can feel like I'm not falling behind -- as a result there'll be no updates this week.

But I'll still be drawing as much as I can, it's just that no matter how much I manage to get done I just know from experience it won't be enough. Because of course it turns out that the Next Pages I'm working on for BOTH comics just happen to both be more complicated than average this week. C'est la vi.

Weekly Update - 275 - 6/16/25

Today's previews feature our two main protagonists. I've been pondering what some form of crossover of some sort might look like at some point. Of course I haven't really yet revealed what Cerellia can actually DO so the discussion is probably moot, but the endless question of who would win in a fight between them is ever on my mind. The answer isn't as simple as one might think.

There's still time to vote in the polly thing! I'll probably close it in another day or two though. Nick is winning, interesting! Not who I expected, but I think I have a good idea for that one maybe! :3

Kinda funny, this was actually the "beginner's luck" background that I did first. The one on page 9 was my second attempt at doing a beautiful background, and I don't think it turned out as good.

I'll keep trying though!

Weekly Update - 274 - 6/9/25

First preview this week is pretty rough, but the goal is for me to try and draw that same repeated panel from a new angle. Then of course the next Solipsus page is already done. I'm super duper proud of the background I did for it. Had to follow along with a tutorial vid, but I'm still really happy with how it turned out.

ALSO I FINALLY updated the TWC reward with a teaser from Solipsus - Page 15, which may be the single best thing I've drawn yet. I feel like it might even be cover art worthy, idk. You can find it here.

I dunno how often I SHOULD update that TWC reward. Monthly seems a bit ambitious, but I should probably update it more often than I do.

Then like... new RImworld DLC teased today. Monster Train 2 came out. Silksong in 2025. Endless Legend 2 coming in August. Paralives. This is shaping up to be an incredible year for gaming. Small/mid studio gaming in any case. The megacorps can keep their greedy 80-100+ dollar stripped-down regurgitations of previously beloved titles that will try to sell you the rest of a game as overpriced DLC.

Happy Pride Month everybody!

I don't normally do anything extra for Pride, but in today's timeline I feel like it's more important than ever to show our support for people. Humans are awful, granted, but at the end of the day I think it's safe to say that I am generally pro-human? Like, wanting the best for people seems generally better than the opposite of that? Maybe I'm dumb, idk!

In addition to the usual Next Page preview, which, in the case of Solipsus at least, are completely finished out a couple of weeks yet because I'm still pretty far ahead, I wanted to do something a little different and show more of the process for an upcoming page a bit further on. It ended up being good enough that I could actually see using it as cover art or something, idk! Hopefully you enjoy! Finally, the last preview up there is just a doodle I did while trying to figure out how in the hell anyone ever draws armor. It turns out it doesn't actually have to be all that complicated.

Bonus Arts/TTRPG

Riley bonus art - I know I promised it last week, but last week got turned into a muddled mess of THINGS that kept pulling me away from my tablet. I DID make lots of progress on upcoming Solipsus pages though, feeling pretty good about the pace I'm cranking those out. So... SOON!

Max Body Pillow - I'm not letting this fall off my queue, but seriously, with the whole global trade shitter thing going on even if I finish drawing it getting them made will cost five times as much, and I don't want to charge that price for them any more than y'all wanna pay it, so... eh. I'd rather just make comics in the meantime. I assume that's why y'all are here anyway.

TTRPG - We did kind of a combat/sparring playtest last week, which was actually pretty valuable serving to highlight some of the interesting parts of combat as well as its shortcomings. I've said it before where I think we have the makings of something good, but it needs some refinement. As for the rest of the system, I'm actually pretty satisfied with it, so if we get combat really solid, maybe do another edit pass, I'll put it into Alpha for more of you fine folks to peruse as your leisure!
