God Slayers - Page 45

This is... another good reason I like having a big backlog.  As I've been looking over the pages done so far, sharing them with a few of my closest friends to evaluate flow and continuity... I realized the flow of this chapter is kind of jumbled a little bit.

And besides, these pages that I'd cut from the start of the chapter are, perhaps unsurprisingly, important for the story I've created.  I think inserting them a few of them here will help not only reveal the important inf...

Marketing!

No one can ever know my comic exists if I don't tell people about it... and mah peeps been bugging me to make an ad banner of some sort... and I had this idea come to me.  So I did the thing.

Yep, we're doubling down on this slogan.  And the name.  Settle in, guys... SOMEONE'S pretty much guaranteed to be offended by both things at some point.

Not quite done with it yet... waiting on some feedback and input... but this is pretty close to what I wanted to make.

Max Evolution

New Character Sketches

So... I did a lot of sketching over the holiday vacation, filling the first 20 pages or so of my sketchbook, and among those this character concept was born.

Now, this is by no means a new character, and she has been planned to be involved in the plot since the beginning, however, originally her weapon was going to be a bow, and I've changed it, after testing a few poses to make sure I could, in fact, draw her using the weapon I wanted her to have.  I'm pretty satisfied with it. 2019-12-04 20:37:59 +0000 UTC View Post

God Slayers - Page 42

Kuserra might be a horrific shithole, but in at least some areas of the city, and for specific reasons, it seems they have a killer nightlife.

I guess Page 41 was the first page after I decided to change how I draw eyes.  This one shows them off a bit better though.  Small incremental improvements across the board!

Thanksgiving 2019

Here all the best characters from the comic so far gather for a non-canonical feast.  This is about as well as I would imagine this sort of thing could possibly go.

Posting it early because we're travelling this week and I'd rather not have to muck about with trying to post it this Wednesday.  Hope you all have a happy holidays!

God Slayers - Page 41

Trying to do more hand-drawn backgrounds instead of building them in 3D and screen-shotting them.  There's pros and cons I guess.  The former method takes me more time, but gives me some much-needed practice.  The latter method, although faster, often turns out much darker and more washed out than I want it to, making it much harder to effectively define important details I want to hide in the setting around the characters.

I believe I never shared this part of the minicomic to Patreon.  I don't seem to be able to find it in my posts anyway... I am bad at my job.

They don't REALLY have to be read in order, but I do kind of enjoy the ongoing narrative of Kiva just trying to get her to make him some boots.

These are becoming a thing, it seems.  I finished this one a little early and decided to share it because I liked how it turned out.

I love the clash of their personalities here.  I'm still not sure if Riley is actually crazy, or if she just likes messing with Kiva.

Random Practice and Poses

More warm-up sketches and expression and pose practice...

As my style continues to evolve, it seems I can't help but be at least a little influenced by some of the media I consume...  Here I'm starting to see some tiny elements of Dreamkeepers, Twokinds, even a little of Hazbin Hotel working their way into my art in subtle ways.  Certainly don't mind a little of that.  Honestly, if my style winds up eventually somehow mushing elements from all those fantastic artists toge...

Here, have some fanservice.  Amusingly, my favorite part of this sketch is Kiva's expression in the lower right.

Ideas for sillier, lighthearted, personality-driven one-shot comic pages come to me all the time, but I feel like trying to inject them into my main story would just make them seem like filler. So I'm gonna try to take the better of those ideas and release them in this kind of format instead of trying to fit them into the longer narrative.

Max finds Kiva after all!  In this chapter I hope to explore and perhaps clarify their relationship a bit more.

It's kind of funny to me... the art from this page is already months old, and a lot of the sketches I'm making now are way better.  Oh well... such is the nature of practice and improvement.  It's what keeps me going, tbh.

BLAM!  Page 38, as promised, on time!  Wooo!  Skipped a bit ahead in time, it seems.  What happened with Donno?  How did Kiva end up like this?  Guess you'll have to wait and see!

What's funny is that these early pages from Chapter 3 are a few months old at this point, so the quality of my art might not be quite as high as some of the sketches I'm putting out now, but don't worry.  The point of all this is to improve and get better, and all the skills ...

Promotional Kiva

Made this quick little advert image for use in various places and forms.  Figured I'd share it!  Woo!  It's been a productive week!

The slogan is actually something Kevin and I came up with for G2tD, our first webcomic of antiquity that we started back in college.  I still like the slogan a lot, and I feel like it really fits the THEME of God Slayers too.

God Slayers is Back!

Tier Art! (WIP)

This is what I've been working on this week! (And probably for another week at least) These are supposed to be little graphics to go along with each of my Patreon tiers. With the impending Early Access launch of Chapter 3, I wanted to freshen up my Patreon a bit by updating the tiers and adding some art. Dancing Twins

 Sometimes to practice drawing different poses, I'll draw my characters dancing or moving their bodies in weird ways just to try and help myself better envision how the anatomy holds all their various parts together... Then I had this silly idea pop into my head. This is probably canon, from a time before the start of the comic when the twins still went out and did fun things every once in awhile.

Renaming Tiers

FYI, I reorganized and renamed all of the tiers.

I renamed the tiers like 10 times today, lol, but ultimately I'm deciding to stick with the theming -- Patrons being denizens of Kuserra.  I tossed in a bit more in-universe information along with each one as well.  Your pledges have NOT CHANGED.

More Faces!

I'm becoming aware that a lot of these weekly sketches are just pages full of faces.  That's primarily because I just draw a LOT of faces, for warm-up, for the comic, or just in general.  When you think about it, almost every panel of my comic is centered on someone's face, or at the very least, a shoulders-up bust of the character.  That's partly because I think one of my strengths is the expressiveness of my characters, and partly because it's deeply within my comfort zone. &...

Twitch's Job is Hell

Been awhile since I drew Twitch. Figured I'd give him some love today. He works at a bank where they store large amounts of watts. Thanks to Kuserra denizens' generally poor understanding of what electricity is or how it works or how to safely store it or safely transfer it or grounding or shielding, his job is a living hell.

It's no wonder he has a complex. 

Skyler the Bat

Not strictly a comic-related doodle, but whatever.  This is my character for an upcoming D&D game my friend is running, and I have been enjoying drawing him quite a bit this week.

I tend to grow attached to characters and I like to reuse them over time, so I could see him making an appearance in God Slayers at some point.  Just because he's so darned cute.

Many Faces

Lately I find myself sketching the same face a half-dozen or more times before I'm happy enough with it to start inking. This is a compilation of some rejected sketches I'm not going to use for Chapter 3.  They aren't great... but I think a few of them are still kinda good.

This doesn't even include all the ones that got erased somewhere down the line.  I probably redrew Max another half-dozen or more times as well, but I erased the previous sketches out of frustration.  ...
