Hello friends,
Today I'm working on a new country lead guitar lesson and jam track in the style of Merle Haggard. This track features a 5.4.1 progression (A, G, D), which is often used as a turnaround or intro for country tunes.
Jam over this using your D major pentatonic or blues scale, and be sure to consider using chord tones whenever possible. I'll be back later with a full tutorial on my favorite licks, and the theory behind them. Have fun! -Rob

Hello friends,
This morning I dug back into the Swiftlessons archive and created a chord sheet for my tutorial on the 60's classic "Soldier of Love" (Lay Down Your Arms) by Buzz Cason and Tony Moon. This is the perfect song for practice bar chords up and down the neck, however you can mix in a few open position shapes including Emaj, Amaj, and B7 to l...

As I've mentioned before, nothing has driven my progress more than songwriting, for example this song reaffirmed my understanding and love for the Mixolydian scale, three part harmonies and a variety rhythm techniques. Help yourselves to a free download of the demo, and my chord sheet if yo...

Hello friends,
Today I got to sit down with my good friend, and student Dr. David for a beginner friendly blues lesson. Our focus was on learning how to create a lead-line connecting two chords, in this case, B7 to A7. ( the 5 and 4 chords key of E.)
We took the root notes of these chords, and filled the measures in with notes from our minor pentatonic scale before tackling a simplified version of our classic turnaround.
Every now and then I would like to share with you clips...
