$10 Content: Novels and Betas and Updates, Oh My!

Hey, $10 patrons! Normally I space out rewards, but there was no reason to do so in this case. This post has a book for you to read, an update on Once Ever After, and an opportunity to participate in a DStP prototype if you want.

I have another novel for you, if you want to read it:

December 15 Update

Lots of satisfying end-of-year stuff going on. I've invested some very productive time into writing, the least of which is finally getting the story version of that scene up on Literotica:

http://literotica.com/s/day-in-the-life-of-an-incubus-king

So it's there if you want to read it in long form. You could also rate it up if you feel like. This will not accomplish much unless ...

The Brightest Shadow Beta 1.5

It's time to open up The Brightest Shadow to all $5 backers! This is early access to my epic fantasy novel that is coming out in early 2020, depending on book seasons and my other releases.

What to say about this? It's the first volume in an epic fantasy series. Though I know it won't appeal to everyone, what I can say is that I feel it's the most similar to TLS in scope and that I believe in it as a story I want to tell. As I said a while back, this is sort of a path not taken when it ...

Book Cover Poll + December 7 Update

Hello, everyone! Unless you're just completely uninterested in book covers, please vote in the poll on this post to let me know which cover you like best.

Ideally I'd like people to vote on which cover they like best in theory. If you like the concept of one cover best, but have a minor complaint about the art or text, vote for it and just let me know your specific thoughts. I'd like to collect some hard data, but comments are welcome as well.

December 1 Update

I hope those of you in a place that celebrated Thanksgiving had a good time. I've been hard at work, but this week's update is going to be a bit of a scattered one. As I look to the last month of the year, I'm reviewing my yearly goals and considering how best to use my time.

TLS: One awkward thing is that the next TLS update would naturally come out in about a month, and I've found that patrons have much less time to play during the Christmas and New Years seasons. Tha...

Five Years of TLS

(Brief paragraph of business: the newest public version is now available on the blog and Steam. This will also be your weekly update, as I won't have anything particularly notable to say in just a couple days.)

Five years ago today, I posted the first version of TLS (though at that time it was TLF). That's a long time. It isn't hyperbolic to say that this game chang...

Finished Scene Art Set #4

Four more CGs are done, though in this case they only cover three scenes - if you look above, you'll see that the Stineford orgy received two different pieces of art. I figure that the game already has a massive number of CGs, so adding a few more for bigger scenes doesn't really increase the workload that much.

We're actually getting somewhat closer to finishing chapter one's scenes. The largest remaining hurdle is all the prostitute scenes, which have begun now. I considered not inclu...

November 17 Update

I'm pleased to say that the new TLS update seems to be going well and the ridiculously long scene didn't seem to be too long for anyone. Normally I might push out a .1 version now, but since gameplay is mostly stable, I think I'll wait a little longer. Given a bit more time, I'll be able to add some additional content and fix a few of the more stubborn errors. $5 backers will get a notification when that's updated.

Meanwhile, I'm still thinking about turning the long scene into a short ...

November 10 Update

The DStP launch has gone okay. It's sitting at 3.5, which is average for new games but worse than my previous titles on Newgrounds. Total plays are above average but hardly explosive.

It's a bit encouraging that a reasonable number of people who don't know me at all find the core gameplay fun. There are also a reasonable number of complaints. I don't think this gameplay loop is necessarily a divisive one, so I think that's a sign that there are things that need to be improved. I don't h...

Don't Save the Princess: Public Demo

There was a time when I was hoping to get the TLS update out today, but it became clear that wouldn't be possible. Instead, I think it's finally time to stop tinkering and just subject DStP to the acid test. The demo with the first two worlds is now available on Newgrounds:

November 3 Update

Well, I had a really long run of pure productivity, but all good things must come to an end. I'm still writing content I like, but I've been seriously slowed down by an issue with how it all comes together at the end of the Stineford update. I'm not sure whether or not this will be an impediment to release or just a temporary stumbling block.

Meanwhile, other stuff!

The Brightest Shadow: I think Patreon didn't mess with anyone this time, so $10 patrons should have access to the bo...

October 27 Update

Happy Spooktober, everybody! I'm mentally deep into the TLS update and don't want to distract myself, which is why it's nice to have things prepared. Here is a quick short story that you might find fun:

The Brightest Shadow Beta

UPDATE

Originally I was going to upload a new version of the book with reported typos fixed and a few changes based on feedback, but I've just been too deep in TLS work. While I kept not getting that done, a third person reported that they didn't get a notification about this post, so I decided not to delay anymore. Hopefully this will reach those who weren't notified about the first time.

October 20 Update

Hey, everyone. If you're a $5 patron, you know that the new Don't Save the Princess beta has gone live. It's stumbled a bit coming out of the gate due to some bugs that are apparently slippery and hard to replicate. More info on that in the future.

The good thing about delegation is that the ongoing work on DStP isn't really using much of my time or energy. Though there's a novel and short story incoming, those are finished, so the only major piece of work on my plate is TLS 0.47.0.

October 13 Update

Both private/public releases went fine, so I'm off to focus on the next update. I'd like to work mostly on the Stineford content, but in the meantime there will be a number of things coming down the pipeline here on the Patreon.

Don't Save the Princess: I'm supposed to get the new complete build next week. I plan to let patrons do testing, then hopefully it will only take a bit of polishing before we can do a broader demo.

Once Ever After: Deciding CGs

This is going to be an insight into my process and/or a chance to influence OEA. Though it hasn't been taking up much of my creative time recently, I've continued to use up many of Crescentia's commission slots.

Here's how the game's sex scenes look overall:

You can see how I tried to create a balance of characters: Ingrid is in 10 scenes, Wilhelm in 8, Ulfina/Hood/Fenris tied at 6, Brunh...

Finished Scene Art Set #3

Three more scenes from the first chapter have been completed! Megail has two missionary scenes in a row, but we aimed to show that can still include variety. Emotional valence!

The next set will include Yarra x Ina, the Stineford orgy, and Trin's first time. We have some great sketches for the Stineford orgy, but I'm trying to decide if we should break the pattern and have two entirely different CGs for that scene. Setting that precedent has the potential to increase the overall number ...

September 29 Update

Alright, as of this post, I've closed the survey. We had 285 responses, which is a pretty good response rate for something quick like this. Though some of it produced expected results, there were also some things that were good to learn.

(One note for future surveys: the write-in options were mostly used as a "misc comment" field instead of to write in other options. I read all comments, but in the future would probably avoid that field. The reason some of the text looks weird is that t...

September 22: What Comes After TLS

This week, I'm going to drop a lot of thoughts on you, then I'll link to a short survey. It'd be great if everyone could complete it, even if you don't have a strong opinion. Getting a sense for neutral voices is also an important part of this process.

Alright, it's time for me to lay out my thinking about what will come after TLS is finished.  I've been considering this since almost the beginning of the project, but I've held off getting into it because I didn't want to ju...

Quick Survey Preview

This is just a quick post for those of you who care about doing surveys well. I'm planning for this week's post to include some of my "What Comes Next" thoughts as well as a survey. I want to keep it simple to encourage a high response rate, but I also don't want to include malformed questions that might skew the results. Here's my plan for the questions/options:

What is your preference for the engine used for the next game?

Either late 2019 or early 2020 I'm going to launch my epic fantasy series, The Brightest Shadow. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I think it's one of the better stories I've written and one of the few I feel is equal to TLS in scope. On the other, I know that it isn't likely to find as much commercial success as some...

September 15 Update

The public version of the last update is out and I've started work on Chapter 5. Last week I took a while to go over all my plans/outlines through to the end, and I'm quite eager to get to them. ^-^

Instead of beginning with a free roaming period, the last chapter will start with the party in the middle of their new activities. Though the final chapter will include a lot of side/optional content, it also has several normal plot sequences that are pretty dense. Lots of payoff that's been...

Alright, it's time for me to lay out my thinking about what will come after TLS is finished. I've been considering this since almost the beginning of the project, but I've held off getting into it because I didn't want to jump the gun. I'll start this off as a $10 thread and eventually either make a new one or open it up to other tiers.

This thread isn't about making a concrete decision or starting a project. I'll start working on my next project before TLS is finished, but not this far...

SUNDAY EDIT

Hey, everyone. Check out the new version 0.45.1 below; a lot of new dialogue has been added. Probably not worth searching out if you already explored, but the world is overall more responsive to recent events now. If you were waiting to play, now's a good time.

This is going to be your weekly update, since I don't have a lot more to say. FYI, I might do a quick cross-promotion with another Patreon mainly because they came to me. Also expect some of the future-focused p...

Finished Scene Art Set #2

I have another set of art to share with everyone! Three more scenes from the first chapter, plus the character references for Megail and Wendis.

I didn't include the minor variation of the Hilstara scene, but did include the succubus one since it has more differences. Not a lot else to say other than that these represent my continuing efforts to have the game include some real variety. Game update should be coming this weekend.

If you want to be involved with art going forward, ju...
