NF3D: Character editor - first look

I'm still waiting for Playmaker support to fix couple of scripts. I need them to finish the "face shape editor", but even without face changer I'm willing to show you what we get so far! 

The editor is quite flexible and could be extended with additional shapes, hairs, forms and details. Only female body available for now.

Procedural idle animation, unity viewport.

It's not something I had an intention to show, but this evening I made a procedural idle stance and it looks surprisingly alive. Couple of animated face tweaks, random eye movement and breath cycle.  Just  a rough viewport screen capture.

Further development roadmap

Ok, guys. Now I need your input. There are much things needs to be done and i'm choosing which one should be my priority. Right now we already have mechanism that allow two characters to hit each other but it should be developed further: punches should have aim, faces should be alive, head/eyes should tracking the opponent, it needs sounds, trails, FX and so on. 

The other part is girl customization mechanism. Now it have some basic shapes, but all the haircuts, skins, makeups, pubic hair...

Block.Avoid.Hit - build

In case you prefer more interactive stuff - there is a demo build with couple of actions and buttons. Check it out, is it even working on your side?

Punch have no aim yet and faces are expressionless, but anyway 6 buttons are better than no buttons!   ;)

Block VS Avoid

Well landed simple jab could bring you down. But at least there are two basic ways to deal with it: Block and Avoid. And it's rely on your Toughness and Speed abilities.

Boring technical stuff

I have come here to break the silence and keep you updated about the project... and I'm all out of silence. 

I'm working on the project every day, but it's quite a boring, non visual technical things. Autodesk Maya 2017 got new animation tool "Timeline" which have some very cool improvement for animation and motion capture mastering. But nevertheless Maya still full of bugs, unexpected crushing and REALLY WEIRD stuff like a roll bones behavior.

Still struggle with the precise animation transfer between Maya and Unity. Already in contact with the guys who made the Unity's and Maya animation systems, so the heavy artillery is coming.

Struggle the rigging. Rigging the struggle

Did you see all this youtube tutorials like "Put your model to unity in 5 minutes"?  DON'T BELIEVE IT!

I spent almost a week trying to match Maya animation with Unity imported model. And still don't have a decent result. It works... almost... but not in case when you need to be especially precise! But we want to be precise, aren't we?

Game Design Document

Hey, fighters! I made a basic GDD available for public with description of how the game should work. It's a good starting point to discuss a specific features and actual game techniques. All the future details about mastery, skills e.t.c. will be written in this document. Feel free to check it and ask any questions.

First look on a realtime skin shading

Realtime engines is so much pain! 5% creative, 95% - solving errors, fighting with technical issues, crying and turning it on and off thousand times. I'm so tired... but before I go to sleep let me show you my first attempt on realtime skinshading. Not a big deal, just a model turnaround, but I still want to share it with you :)

Of course it's not so good as a proper render, but it should be around 60 frames per second, instead of 1-2 hours per still picture.  Let me know, is it work? Can...

Status update. Catfight + Mixfight

Hey, fighters! Here is an update with my current tasks.

I receive many feedback regarding only female fighters presented. I had a plan to introduce additional figures later and stick with only one body during  developing but for now I think it's a really good idea to announce it right now: there will be Male and T-Girl shapes available as characters.  It will not reduce the catfight possibilities in any way, all the catfight features will stay as is. Girl face shapes customization.

There are many ways to make a face customization. They all have their own benefits and limitations. I decided to use system with one base body shape and adding full faces blend-shapes. 

For now we have 20 expressive, individually sculpted head shapes that could be added with with one injection. Including young, mature, asian and african faces.
