SO! It's been a hot minute since we posted an update for Samurado. As mentioned we stopped working on the game during our move, so we lost a little over 2 months while we relocated and got settled in.
But now that we're here, and settled (except for the storage room. It's scary in there...) we've gotten more done in the last 3 weeks then we have in the last 3 months!!
So: I'm VERY excited to be sharing these updates with you.
For all your Hall of Famers, you'll be getting you...

Hey guys!
In this tutorial I'll show you how to setup a random event system that is controllable with weights so you can control the % chance of a specific event firing.
I used a chest as a simple example here. So it will spawn either:
1 - coins
2 - enemies
3 - a health potion
I really hope you enjoy!

I LOVE making these kinds of videos, because these tips are something I would have loved to have stumbled across a good while back.
As I work on various projects, I keep a list of '"tip-worthy" things I learn and like to publish videos like this when I reach 10.
I really hope you enjoy and find this helpful, and let me know which one is your favorite!

It's been a while since I updated any of the key art for Samurado, and I noticed the old orange one was looking a little sad and didn't convey the game story very well...
So I figured I'd fix that and make it a little more... 'Revenge-y'.
Hope you like the new look!!

This is a really fun tutorial where we'll setup 2 different kinds of rope that your player can interact with, as well as a bouncy rope bridge.
I've used both of these in Veil of Maia and they are a LOT of fun to play around with.
I really hope you enjoy!

This one has been on my list for a while and I'm finally getting around to making it. I remember when I created the map system for VoM I found it SUPER frustrating how abundant MINIMAP tutorials were, but there was very little information on full map systems and how to build one. So I took the knowledge I had from the minimap and just expanded it to make it work as a fully fledged map system as well.
Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

I wanted to build off the last tutorial that covered data persistence and loading transitions. This one, instead of creating a loading transition while loading the next scene, will actually load/unload scenes in the BACKGROUND off the main thread, so that you can seamlessly load in new scenes without a loading transition.
This method is flexible and easy to implement, and will cover a wide range of use cases.
Really hope you enoy!

So this one will seem a little out of left field, but it's actually been in the works for quite some time. The game was made while we were packing at our old place, and the video was recorded and edited once we settled into our new place. So the progress on this one was frustratingly slow.
So this one is PURELY for fun. We got a sponsorship offer that allowed us to play around with an emote ecosystem, and so we decided to make a tiny game around it and recorded the progress of making i...

Join us as we dive into the captivating worlds of three indie game legends - Hollow Knight, Celeste, and Stardew Valley.
These games have sold well over a million copies each and hold a special place in the hearts of gamers worldwide.
But what truly sets these games apart? Contrary to common advice that games need a unique hook, these titles don't rely on groundbreaking mechanics.
In this video, we take a deep look into what special quality made all three of thes...

we are FINALLY back online!!!
Honestly I want to thank all of you for your patience. It's been VERY difficult for us to only post 1 video per week but the extra time to get properly settled into the house is paying off tremendously. We're settling into the new place nicely, still painting/unpacking but the bulk of the work is done now. Though there's still loads of little things to do that I don't normally have to worry about with a local move (example, we need new health cards and driver'...

It's been awhile since I've done anything in 3D. This week I'm refreshing my 3D game skills by working on an emote based 3D minigame that uses AI to create custom emotes.
You play as a little cave person using emotes to impress the tribe leader who ultimately decides your fate. Will you be accepted into the tribe, or be banished to face your untimely end?
Playable minigame & Youtube video coming soon!

Hey guys!
Someone in discord recently asked me if I could make a video on how to handle making enemies without having to copy and paste code multiple times for various enemies, while still maintaining the ability to have unique movement and abilities.
I remember VERY clearly how difficult I found Inheritance to understand when I was less experienced, and so I made the tutorial that I would have wanted to watch back then, which includes ACTUAL code examples for things you'd want to...

Hey guys!
Real quick in case you didn't catch the short I posted on YT today - I'd originally hoped to continue with 2 videos per week during our move, but that's proven to not be manageable, and so in order to continue producing high quality videos we're moving down to 1 video per week (Thursdays) TEMPORARILY - until we're settled in our new home next month. Then we'll be business as usual with Monday and Thursday videos.
Thanks for all your kinda messages a...

I can't seem to stop making shadergraph tutorials lol, I love them so much!
This one is focused specifically on using the newer options in Unity to easily create a fullScreen effect using shadergraph.
The particle example we work with is a nice "player damaged" effect, though we'll make a few variations as well to give you a nice place to start.
Then at the end I'll show you how you can trigger this effect with code.

This isn't anything that will hit YT and there's no tutorial for it or anything like that, this is just for you.
I've always been fascinated by Ori and the Blind Forest and how the heck their grass works. It's so fluid, and responds to the player when you walk past it. I've tried my hand at creating some shaders but there hasn't been anything too advanced.
But I recently stumbled upon a free package, made by aarthificial (link to the github repo is here, I ta...

I literally avoided Github for years and opted to just back my game up on Google Drive and an external hard drive. Mostly cause I'd read somewhere that Github was hard to use with things like Unity projects.
Maybe that was true a ways back, I have no idea, but it's REALLY easy now, so for anyone wanting a safe and easy way to back up their projects online (as well as a handy and easy way to revert changes) then this tutorial is for you.
Hope you enjoy!
