I got a lot done in 2020, but not much of that was any kind of personal work. So in the last days of the year I gave myself a treat and created the buff female au'ra of my (our) dreams.
This was meant to be just a throwaway sketch, but then I posted it to the discord and twitter and people went nuts about it, so then I felt I should give her a name and a headcanon and then go onto draw nothing but her and fill our days with stronk lizard ladies and...
SO, according to this...

May your 2021 be less of a raging dumpster fire than 2020 was. I must say that despite everything, last year was fairly productive for me and going full time into art proved to be the right decision- which I most definitely have all of you to thank for. You guys made such a difference to my life last year and I can’t wait to get through this one with you all over again.
So without further gushing, please have some news and updates to get us started!

A pretty short timelapse for a pretty straightforward piece! There's a bit of futzing at the start, where I struggled to decide what mood I wanted this to have. I eventually settled for something more casual, rather than sexy, and it was all pretty simple from thereon- just how we like it!

A druid finds herself in the stars over the lakes of Ardenweald.
It is done! This one - which you can see the lineart WIP for here -took fairly longer than expected, though in hindsight I should have totally expected it given that I've never painted a night time or water scene. I got a little ambitious with the rendering too, as I originally intended to keep it much simpler and eventually gor swept a...

This one starts in a bit of a funny place, as I threw down the first lines you see at the start of the video during a stream on Twitch, while I was half asleep and did not have references on hand. All things considered, it wasn't too bad an attempt, but there's definitely a science to drawing children and I'm pretty sure I missed that memo.
Overall it turned out pretty cute, though looking back on it I may have changed the ears a bit to be a little rounder and match the bunny a bit bett...

Okay, so this is not the FULL color process. Unfortunately I still rely on Photoshop for the more detailed part of the process, which includes adjusting colors, adding the more delicate color highlights and layers. So, so many layers.
One day PS will allow me to record my process there, but until then just imagine that between the end of the video and the final piece I simply press the magical, mythical Digital Art button that just makes things look good for you with 0 effort.

The process for this one was pretty straightforward- the most complex part probably being the layout tilt to make sure the image weight didn't feel off balance. Oh, and the flowers. I don't know why I did that to myself.
The color timelapse will be up soon as well!

What dis? You might be asking.
The AoTM is a new feature that I announced last month, intended to celebrate and reward the MVPs of our little Artroom Community. This could go to someone who’s been especially active in giving feedback to other artlings, or who’s posted useful resources, or who’s made a point of making others feel appreciated and heard in the Discord. It could also go to someone who pushed past ...

A patreon reward of a happy catte! I had a lot of fun drawing this one and I adore her colors.
This was a free Color Bust purchased on StarStickers- my reward portal. If you're a patron and haven't signed up yet, please go here to do so!

Title is totally temporary because I couldn't think of anything less cheesy. Alas, behold! A Warcraft piece of a sassy druid! It's been a hot minute since I worked on one of these and let me tell you- them lines gave my wrist a good shake up.
Coloring this one's going to be fun but challenging, since she's floating in water, which is full of flowers and reflections of stars. I want it to be very soft and enchanting- sort of like the tones we go in the new Ardenweald areas - so I expect ...

This was such a lovely little patreon reward to work on- a child version of the viera I recently drew in my "Moments" piece.

A viera and her lil buddy. I love how many people have this really meaningful bond with Carbuncle in FFXIV, like he's just one big aether puppy.
Painting this was really fun- the simplicity of the outfit gave me a chance to play around with the colors and experiment with hues and tones. That said, it's kinda funny that this bright, bubbly piece shares the same space as this one I finished not...

I've been working on this cutie for a few days - which decidedly took longer than I expected because I had a sudden impulse to draw two dozen flowers. I do think it's better for it, even if future me is pretty daunted at the thought of painting them.
Either way, have a few WIPs! I know you guys enjoy seeing pieces evolve, so to top that there will be a full timelapse for this piece - both for the lineart and the color.

So I don’t know if anyone’s told you yet, but 2020 is almost over. I literally found myself yelling at the light-up reindeer in someone’s lawn yesterday before realising it’s only 4 weeks to Christmas.
In that impasse, I also ended up scrolling down year-old memes on Facebook before I was graced with this memory:

This, my friends, was the very first illustration I made ...

After finishing a few intense comms, I decided it was time to catch up with my reward queue, so here are a few cute things I've had a chance to work on lately! The two first are a wee fox and a character from Bungou Stray dogs, and the other two are custom sets of emojis for Discord/Twitch.
What's really fun about drawing these freebies is that people get creative with their requests, which gives me a chance to work on fun stuff that I wouldn't usually get to do.
If you're a patro...

A sweet and simple piece of a couple having a tender moment.
After working for weeks on the last piece I posted, this was a really nice change of pace- something quick and clean, with a focus on expressions and lineart. While it might not be my most impressive kind of work, I really find working on this kind of art very cathartic.
As usual, your thoughts and comments are welcome and loved!

I can't even begin to describe the work that went into this piece. If you thought I'd been a little quiet for the last couple of weeks, this is why: by long and far, my most complex piece this year.
So much went into this piece. From the initial concepts, to the back and forth with the details, to having to redo parts that just weren't working or adjusting the colors infinitely to preserve the mood. Also, there are 12 hands in this piece. Twelve. Hands. I normally dread drawing the two ...

Mother of hands, this piece has taken me DAYS and I still need to fully render it. Carpal tunnel, here I come!
Really though, I am having SO MUCH FUN with this piece. I'm in love with the character and the mood and the only reason I'm dreading the render is because I fear not doing it all justice. Alas, no good work of art went without challenge.
I'd love to hear your thougths so far!

This is one of those pieces that looks a lot simpler than it really was. Never underestimate the difficulty of getting two characters to look at each other.
All that being said, I loved working on this concept- of the WoL dancing with a very smitten-looking Thancred. Lookit them, lookit how happy they look.
As always, your thoughts are loved!

I had exactly two lines of text to work with in creating this character- my very first "Fire Genasi" (think I got that right?). Thank you Alice- you da real MVP.
Digs aside, I actually loved working on this character, who's supposed to be big and buff and happy and apparently give great hugs. It was a pretty straightforward process and I'll be uploading the timelapse of BOTH the lineart and color process soon for all patrons!
