She's finally done! Another flat color piece that didn't quite turn out so flat, though I'm pretty chuffed with how shiny it came out in the end.
I'm also really pleased to have finally been able to draw this character, who's been in fantasia limbo for nearly a year. I do like me a good scowling, white-haired rabbit lady.

A lineart bust for the winner of my Twitter give/away! I had a blast working on the lineart for this one- it was so cathartic. Particularly all that swooshy hair.

I put my life into this piece, good lord. It was good fun, but used a lot of brain power- particularly as it was designed off a pretty complex text description. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, despite full rendering not being my forte (yet).

I'm SO pleased with how this one turned out, which is something I don't let myself say often. I feel like I channeled my inner Ghibli and that this could be a poster for one of their movies.
The style is what I've been calling "flat color", though as you can see it turned out a little more than. I still had such a good time with it- from the lineart to the trees- and I'm looking forward to developing this style more in future comms.

Another piece that I've spirited into reality through a bulletpoint list of requirements and a collection of pinterest shots! This one was a little more challenging than the previous one, if only for the nature of the fabrics he's wearing- particularly the leather coat. Which is leather, but not very thick leather, which means it can fold, but it's still leather, so what even is a crease if not the ridges appearing in my own face as I wither.

This was a spur of the moment, personal piece I made as I watched the finaly of She-ra. I loved Catra's development and what direction they took her relationship with Adora in the end. And while I didn't much care for the animation style at the start, it really grew on me towards the end.
The process for this was relatively straightforward. There are a couple of blips where I transfered the file to Photoshop to polish the lines and then brought it back for the color.

Finished lineart for this piece I'm working on for Jartgo! So far this has been really fun and I'm pretty proud of the composition and details on this one, as I'm forcing myself to push out of my comfort zone by trying new perspectives.
The color for this one will be flat, although I realise that painting backgrounds in two shades doesn't quite work, so I expect this will take a minute longer than I anticipated.

Here's a portrait of a good friend's character, which I decided to do traditionally so that I could send them the original.
Painting this was an experience, mostly by the virtue of constantly trying to tap ctrl+Z on the page to undo my mistakes. I also used Yupo paper- which is made out of plastic- and gouache/ink. It was like painting on an ice rink: very interesting but OH MY GOD WHY WON'T YOU DRY.

In this timelapse: Ony obsesses over pecs that are ultimately going to be covered by clothing that will not even silhouette them.
Also what even is a face.
One thing that always amazes me watching these timelapses back is how bad or disproportionate things look all the way through to the last third of the process. And yet, when I'm in the actual process I continuously tell myself "this looks good!". I guess it's the little lies we tell ourselves that make us true artists...?
Another lineart piece that started as a quick pencil sketch. The anatomy on this one was wonky as well because what even are male chests.

As much as I work digitally 90% of the time, I still find it comforting to get the base sketch done on paper. Even though it couldn't look further from the finished piece, it almost gives me a sense of reassurance- sort of like a foundation.
In the timelapse you can see how I work over it and then refine it over time, building on it until it looks completely different.

This timelapse is a bit unique, as it doesn't cover the whole process- just the part of the process where everyone thinks you're done and you- the artist- rip your shirt open and exclaim to the heavens "God forbid these muddy colors, I must make it SHINE!"
And so you grab that hard brush and whack it with color dodge until it looks like a unicorn died for your sins.
It's all a very dramatic experience.
