The map of Purgatory on Day 500 I made for reference.

Chapter 205 – Day 499 – A Late Night Return, A New City

We arrived late at night, the wood and metal gates on the inside of the tunnel were closed. I knocked heavily.

“Champion Michael, returning,” I called out. I heard movement, and then the gate opened up a minute later with five soldiers of the RMPF there along with a Captain I recognized by their uniform. Once they saw it was me, they quickly opened the gates the rest of the way and saluted me.

“Champion Michael, welcome back,” the Captain said.

“Thank you,” I rep...

Naran was doing quite well also.

Chapter 203 – Day 441 (Part 2) – Back To The Grind

“Surprised you let him take control of the city. It is going to be a cesspool,” Naran said as we left the city back to our grinding spot. I wasn’t going to change it, despite the risk.

“I know,” I replied with a sigh. “Sam and his team aren’t good people, but it doesn’t matter. As long as the crystals flow to Purgatory, that is all that matters.”

“When he becomes another Ritualist?” Naran asked.

“He might become another Ritualist, he might not. But I ...

Chapter 202 – Day 441 – People Headaches, Almighty System Headaches

We made our way back to plaza of Neo Brasilia to cash in our latest grinding session. I would finally be hitting one thousand in my Regeneration stat. I didn’t think anything would happen, but it was a nice big number.

I would be regenerating 10 energy per minute. This would let me use Acid Shot once every two minutes. It was a good stopping point in my mind before I invested into other stats. The Spirit stat was next on my list.

I needed more staying power in a fight, ...

Chapter 201 – Day 433 (Part 2) – Aftermath

I let out a sigh of contentment as I got a regeneration. Only a couple of thousand points. My body stopped feeling sore after that scatter shot attack I had taken.

Naran and Fethee both got a regeneration as well. I purchased a new cart in the same colors as the last one. I let Naran handle the supplies. The plaza smelled clean finally.

Since everyone had been killed off, there was enough time for the Almighty System to reset everything. I was curious if the wall had repaired. It ...

Chapter 200 – Day 433 – Die Or Run

But when there were only two golems they climbed up the wall. I would need to try as well. Would it be possible with a high enough Body stat to punch into the stone and make my own hand holds and foot holds?

There was the natural mental instinct to avoid punching walls. It was the same thing that stopped a person from running at a wall without raising up their arms. I had practiced taking tumbles already and was fine, even if I was a bit scuffed. But I had never pushed my resistance to ...

Chapter 199 – Day 432 (Part 5) – Run Or Die

I saw the city wall of Neo Brasilia in the distance. We had made this trip enough during our grinding sessions, we both instinctively angled for the East tunnel entrance into the city through the wall. I spotted it.

Naran and I both timed our movements so that as we got closer, we landed right at the entrance and did a midair turn around as we went through the tunnel. I could hear the golems impacting the wall with massive bangs that vibrated the very air. The tunnel probably made the i...

Chapter 198 – Day 432 (Part 4) – Teamwork Makes The Dream Work

Our camp was coming up. “Think we should detour?” Naran asked.

“None of Gertrude’s team can live. You know that,” I replied while the ground trembled under our feet. The horde of seven golems was still after us.

“What a waste, but better to nip problems before they build up,” Naran replied. I wanted to nod at that but was too focused on controlling my movement and speech. Timing everything just right was headache inducing.

I saw the edge of the level 3 zone up ...

Chapter 197 – Day 432 – A Fatal Error

We left at first light. Gertrude’s summoner teammate came along with four scorpions. I let Naran and Gertrude handle the blue gargoyles. They were ugly and quick, but Naran had enough experience from our recent grinding sessions to take them down easily enough.

Gertrude struggled a bit on the ones she fought, but she managed after seeing Naran handle the first one. Eventually the tower came into view.

“What…what is that?” Gertrude stuttered.

“That Gertrude, is the ...

Chapter 196 – Day 431 (Part 2) – A Discussion On Power With Pointers

We set up camp that evening. Everyone was sitting around quietly I considered my options and wanted to test something. Also, to spice things up. “Gertrude, up for a friendly spar. No skills?” I asked. I could tell she was considering the option. Naran gave me a look and I just shrugged at him.

She stood up. “Very well.” I got up also and we made our way away from the carts while the rest of our companions got up to pay better attention to the spar. “Rules?” I considered the ...

Chapter 194 – Day 407 – Back At It

“So, you are into the raunchy kind of humor?” Naran asked me as we made our way to our regular level 3 grinding spot. Fethee had stayed on as a cart puller. That was a Naran problem, not a me problem. But it was good to see he was handling managing our supplies and having someone to pull the cart.

“You heard about that?” I asked. Naran just shrugged and smiled.

“Well not much going on in Purgatory, so the rumor mill works over time. The Champion going to a comedy show, a...

“What do you think?” Clarissa asked me. I gave her a look. You expect me to have a simple answer to this mess? I might be in charge and the strongest, but she knew as much as I did.

“I think that I am going to have to take a look in that direction. To figure out where exactly the Ritualist went. Maybe. I am still not sure it is the best option. If he ran off, then he has other issues to deal with,” I replied.

“The people have been around for only 20 days. Which implies h...

I had rushed the rest of the way back at the end of the day. The RMPF would clear their way back on their own the following day. I wanted to know what happened with the Ritualist. Naran hadn’t returned yet as I sat with Clarissa in my office sipping fruit flavored water. I had just informed her of what happened in our assault on Truth.

“He took up the position of Governor General,” I said as I settled into my chair and sipped my drink. Clarissa slowly nodded at that.

Chapter 191 – Day 404 (Part 2) – A Betrayer Of Feelings

I stood there looking at the wrecked body of Tom. Fingers, toes, were mutilated. His face was a carved up piece of flesh and I could only tell he was alive was from how he was breathing.

“You have the crystals to heal him?” I asked Governor General Gerold.

“Yes, but, it would be a personal expense, since it clearly isn’t going to be cheap.” I winced at that, since it was true. Was this man’s life worth 20,000 points or so to heal him up. It was tricky question. He had ...

Chapter 190 – Day 404 – Aftermath, After Action Reports

I got up and made my way to a window. It was daytime. I had gotten back late last night and everyone had regrouped in the plaza, with only minimal guards at the gates, for healing and to assess what had happened.

I had a change of clothes and a bed had been brought and set up in this building. One of the benefits of being the Champion. It had been a long jog back to the city. I hated wet boots and clothing. There was still a smell lingering on me, I was sure of it.

I reached the East gate and noted the soldiers there. They noted me ahead of time, which was good to see they were paying attention. I quickly came to a stop. “Status?” I quickly asked the Captain as he saluted me.

“Team at the North gate reports casualties. Breakthrough imminent.”

“Thanks,” I said and quickly set off. There was no time to chat more. Playing telephone right now was pointless. I just wanted confirmation that the North gate was the place I needed to go t...

Chapter 188 – Day 403 – Assault On Truth

I sat in a chair at the command post in base camp in the very early dawn. The sun wasn’t even out yet. While we weren’t able to confirm the skill users were inside Truth, the Union teams had been contacted and were already scouting in force.

Our command post, was to the Southeast. It consisted of all our carts and our fall back position in the event one of the teams was overrun. Communication would go through here. I had watched the practice sessions the General had done every eveni...

I was sitting on the top of my building overlooking the plaza. It was a great view. There had been two guards up here, but they were hanging out behind me, out of my way. I noted the treasury also had soldiers of the RMPF on top of the building.

Clarissa certainly wasn’t taking any chances with the city treasury. I had been pulling my hair out while I had been grinding, so I didn’t have another big hair pulling session. The hair was coming back less quickly than I had thought it wou...

“One of the previous lords in charge of Truth. He only ate people with stats. It must have been giving him some kind of boost,” Naran said.

“Dead?” I asked just to be sure.

“Yes. He was killed because of the cannibalism. But with this…who else knows?” Naran asked.

“Just us three and Doctor Katz, which is how it is going to stay. No one else,...

I entered the Meeting Chamber. Weird how the store didn’t call it a hall. How things were laid out had been changed. I sat at the central table at the head. Clarissa, Naran, General Gerold, Vice General Smith, President Bob, and Garret were all there as well, sitting at the main table in the center with me. The twenty Captains of the RMPF had been arranged around the outside of our conference to listen in, but not contribute.

Clarissa banged a gavel on the table. “Silence!” she ca...

“You really butchered hybrids, cooked, and fed people their meat?” I asked Doctor Katz. There was silence at this. I was honestly surprised the good doctor had gone so far and was curious how much further he would go.

“You think you are the only one pissed off about this! You think you have a monopoly on being angry!” he shouted and was breathing heavily. “Crystals and energy are physco and bodily reactive. It was the next logical step. I know you. If I hadn’t discovered thi...

There was silence, before I spoke up. “You wanted this meeting, Doctor Katz. I was thinking I was about to meet Elliott in discussing crystal types.”

Still, she looked worn, smelled, and her clothes were a bit dirty from her own filth. I looked at the waste bucket nearby that was emitting a foul smell.

“Yes. It is comparable to what a CEO would make of a top-rated company, based on the value of crystals. Which is about a dollar to point, based on their purchasing power and the rule of thumb most people are using,” Clarissa replied.
