You might notice that panel 2 turned out differently here than in the final... because I was dumb and forgot about spinning effectively changing the light source. Whups.
I also had done a lot more takes of the shitty ship diagram because I realized I should have drawn it holding the marker like Erin is but I couldn't bring myself to ruin the tip of my marker. And the paint markers I have are too fat.
I hope the flash-forward bit works okay? Lik...

Page 16 on the 16th, neat. I feel I really showed off my artist abilities with the drawing of the ship in the second panel, there.

This page made me cry, guys. I don't know what was wrong with me that day but I spilled my ink container 3 times, getting on two good pieces of clothes, my chair, and of course, myself. Miraculously, I didn't spill a drop on the page but it was so frustrating.

Did a lot of playing art-wise with this one. Seeing how the red & blue went together, the stars reflecting on the window. I do feel like using the soft gradients was a bit of a cheat - I might tweak how I do that later. The intercom bubbles were another thing. CSP makes handling basic text bubbles really easy but I'm still not sure on how to do some extra effects. In this case I want to break up the bubble but then the text would just stick out of it and sin...

Erin's a freaking monster with how she's holding that marker.
I could have gone with the holo-displays scifi seems to love lately but I like that old analogue feel. Plus, I feel the fancy stuff is sometimes unnecessary, like see-through displays gotta be killer for eye strain, and a marker on a window will keep going even if you're running on low power.
I did just finish watching Archer 1999 and the backgrounds there really made me feel like I gotta step up my button & switch ...

Those flashbacks aren't fun. But now there's science to be had.

Teeny wip - I liked how it looked before the black fills were put in. I've been a little worried about being too hesitant to go dark with the black shading so I tried to push myself on this one little page.
Forgive the webcam angle but is does make her belly look bigger so maybe that's a win :P

I bought a new black marker for fills and was so utterly disappointed with how dry and streaky it was... and then I set it down next to what was the real new marker. which of course worked great. The lighter grey is the old marker, you can see it's so streaky that it leaves white flecks when it's all converted to black/white. New marker is those slightly darker streaks. You can see the ink (darkest) gets streaky too but it doesn't give too much trouble when converting.
there are far too...

Not much to say about the process here... I had wanted to show Noora's full name back in the hibernation room somewhere but it didn't quite make it.
Sorry for going back to "silent" pages after one page of dialogue, there's just 2 pages and by 15 we'll have more conversing going.

A name! Noora Fayes.
Bit awkward to carry that all around even in 1/3 gravity, but who says her frame of reference for that is even Earth

Not much to say about the process of this one, everything went smooth as far as I can recall. Part of me does feel like I should have shown them checking out more of the hab for the alien things but there's going to be more of that kind of thing later.

For Whacky Candy I made speech bubbles with vector points, but I decided to use the vector pen to give them a more natural look in Panspermia. I like that it gives me more freedom with the shapes but I lost track of how many attempts it took to do this {sigh} bubble!

This page would have been 100x easier if it was done digitally, even moreso if I knew 3D modelling. But I made my traditional bed and I'll lie on it and spread ink everywhere. That said, I think a tech pen would have been better for inking since I could use a ruler, but I think I straightened a bunch of lines digitally anyway.
This is something I had in mind early on, just a switchover from no gravity to some gravity and how that affects bloat...

It's probably a tradeoff, the kind of discomfort a belly like that bring in weightlessness or in simulated gravity.

If you remember the Whacky Candy process videos you know I had text bubbles and such all laid out before doing the pencils and inks. Working traditionally... no such luxury. Printing out text bubbles for page 1 was super awkward so when things got text heavy again I decided to eyeball it. Aaaannnd it worked out well! I guess I've developed a good sense for the amount of space I need.
I am very happy with the absolute daggers she's giving Erin in the second panel here. Don't interrupt my...

"CRUNH" totally wasn't a misspelling that I decided to leave in because sound effects are all wibbly wobbly anyway. Totally. I'm still really happy with the BOOMPH-CLONK panel, that zig zag of the brush ink is just, mm, yes, perfect.

The grid-ceiling background in the last panel was done digitally and it was still a huge pain. I like how it turned out but oh my god patterns are the worst!

Good news everyone! I got that one video working. :D I'm glad because I had a lot of fun with the speed line type effect and I had completely forgotten that I had resorted to drawing on my arm to make sure I had the right angle for the third panel, I believe. I like to think I have good spatial awareness but not all the time...
I sped this one up more than the others, do you folks want to see them even faster or did you like the slow speeds or is this just right?

The marker is great for large filled areas but it's also stankyyyy. The end of the scene is coming up! Maybe Erin will get to finish her Wakey Wakey.
