With the Netflix series released this summer, I think it's high time we explore the first attempt to get an animated adaptation of the Spriggan manga off the ground. One which is notable for having animators from Akira and Cowboy Bebop work on it and that's all it has really going for it sadly.

KYOTO VIDEO finally delved into the storied Captain Harlock and his cinematic 1982 origin story Arcadia of My Youth. A that film not only wanted to show the beloved captain's beginnings, but also show us how romanticism can flourish in a decade where sci-fi anime was growing cynical.

In the mid-90s, Manag Entertainment greenlit the licenses for a ton of cheap, schlocky anime in a desperate big to recoup the costs of co-producing Ghost in the Shell. 1994's Bounty Dog was one of those anime and, out of all them, it's certainly one of the most yellow.
