LGG Animation Process: Key Animation

Check out how the animation was done for Long Gone Gulch!  A file like this is prepared by Zach who adds notes and direction before sending it off to the animation team to work their magic (except for the Snag part which Zach animated himself). Program is Adobe Animate.

LGG Background Evolution

Hi all! We're back! Apologies for the absence, we're hard at work on the art book which is slated for this year.  Today we're showing off how the incredible BG's were done for LGG!  We're so thankful to have had working professionals like Karl Hadrika, Chris Tsirgiotis, Daniaelle and Trevor Simonsen on board to give the pilot that extra special magic.

Squatch Concept Art

Whenever we try to design a new character, in this case a sasquatch, we think "how can this be different than all of the other bigfoot characters we've seen." Having the most well known cryptid as a supporting character was super important to us when creating LGG. But when we figured out to try to make him more "muppety" he came together pretty quick!

Mayor Rhubarb Concept Art

Poor Rhubarb...if you think he went through a lot in the pilot just check out some of his early designs. Tara definitely had a hand in making him a bit cuter after Zach's first "attempts".  We liked his tiny mustache but it was a bit too much to animate.

LGG Gulchfolk Concept Art

This is a character designer's feast! It was so much fun coming up with crazy creatures and figuring out what well known cryptids and myths would fit in the world of the Gulch.  You may even notice some that didn't make it into the final pilot.  Maybe they'll show up somewhere else...

Marigold Concept Art

The idea of other jackalopes aside from the Mayor was exciting to us. What different variations can we include?  Tara wanted a ram horned jackalope based on the tall and lanky jackrabbits.  Marigold actually came together quicker than expected when her personality was developed by Karl Hadrika and Megan Ann Boyd.

From Concept to Final- Mako's Evolution

What goes into finalizing a character’s design? For Mako, it took more than 30 attempts from concept to final before he became the shark you know today.

Some characters are definitely less but Mako was a tough one to crack.

This and more will be included in the LGG Art Book we're currently working on!

LGG ALTERNATE Saloon Scene (Storyboard Animatic)

Here’s something we dug up from the archives! An alternate scene from the pilot of LGG. The was one of the first drafts for the “Saloon scene”. It features a longer montage of the saloon patrons and very different dialogue for when Rawhide and Snag enter. Also we were going to use a different version of “A Bible, Candle and Skull” from Legendary Shack Shakers genius JD Wilkes. He informed us this early version was not owned by him and offered us to use a newer version of the song on...

LGG 1 Year Anniversary Drawing (Unedited)

Hi all! Wanted to give you the unedited version of the drawing from yesterday's video. The one in the actual video is slightly sped up and certain "mistakes" were cut out for time and clarity.

Please let us know if you like that sort of speed draw/ podcast type of format. Its fun and easy for us to produce.

Thnx!

Rawhide & Snag 2013 Development

Hi!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Halloween, and also our new film Dark Dark Dark! It was a super fun project to work on and totally wouldn't be possible without the support of all of you! We're currently developing new projects that will hopefully come to fruition next year! In the mean time we're also still working on the LGG artbook, so here's some old poses we dug up from 2013.  These were most likely character interaction poses for a bible that we pitched around.  You can s...

LUPIN III Tribute Rough Animation

Thought we'd share the roughs for our Lupin tribute that we posted over on Twitter: https://twitter.com/i/timeline

As huge fans of Lupin and Monkey Punch (Kazuhiko Kato), this was partly in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Lupin anime and Monkey Punch's birthday.  Also the announcement of the new Part 6 anime!

The part that was the most fun was replicating the b/w manga style!  Let us know...

2011 Rawhide & Snag Concept Art

Back in 2011 Snag had duck feet and Rawhide had purple lips.  These exploration concepts ended up in our very first pitch bible way before we decided to make the pilot ourselves.  These and more will be featured in the LGG Art Book we're currently working on, that all you cool patrons will be getting more and more sneak peeks of!

Kong vs Godzilla Forever and Ever and Ever...

Thank you for 50+ patrons!

Here are some concept designs for my Kong vs Godzilla animation I did a while back: https://twitter.com/CountZachulaaa/status/1377331107859927040

Its interesting doing a caricature of something that's not human, and more so a creature or in this case rubber suits.  Each Godzilla in every movie is slightly different, so it was important that the '62 ...
