"Don't say it too loudly, everyone else will want one"
This classic joke caught my eye the other day and I realised it's actually a sketch.
The opening line sets up location (restaurant), cast (diner & waiter) and a point of friction (bad soup.)
Then the joke of the next line hinges on confounding your expectations of how a waiter should behave, i.e. "I'm sorry sir, we'll get you another one and how about a complimentary drink?"
It's a sketch.
It a condensed Dead Pa...

Hello lovely supporters.
There's been a lot of talk of there being too many nazis on Twitter and people moving to mastodon.
Figured we'd set up an instance and tell Patreon people about it first. AND THAT'S YOU.
At the moment it's invite only and here's the link
https://b3ta.social/invite/ryRFwGtL
See you THERE!
Rob.

Here's my tip for writing jokes: don't ask me I haven't got a clue. I think you just mash words and ideas around and share the bits you find funny.
HOWEVER, the thing I've learnt recently which I've found pretty useful is the idea of the bucket.
Buckets don't help you write jokes but they help you communicate them to other people.
So what is a bucket?
Well it's an idea I nicked off Joel & Jason (Cunk / Ladybird etc)
You take a thing - it could be an...

OK - newsletter done, a bit late but done.
This week I've been mostly doing pissing around on the internet as usual.
KERRY KATONA
Pissing around on Twitter where an idle joke I threw out became a thing where Kerry Katona ending up making a video and singing it. True.

Argh - site down since Thursday - the host Hezner had some sort of power surge that knocked 1000s of their clients offline.
We're still suffering from this - they haven't brought our box back online yet.
If worst comes to worst we're not fucked - we have backups and another server ready to go but we'd lose a couple of weeks worth of images and submissions so we're waiting....
It's pretty difficult to write a full newsletter without the site being there but we did it, but obviously ...

Hello people - Rob here - I've just climbed the hill that is the b3ta newsletter - it's not just a handful of links copied from the board - it's a epic fight with content that leaves me high and shattered.
Anyway, what I didn't realise last week is that notes put here get sent out to you lot and accidentally makes two newsletters.
My friend Chris was "I liked the second newsletter" and I was "what are you talking about?"
He reckoned I should make a feature of it but what to put her...

Fucking hell - that was hard.
Not writing a newsletter - but sending it - we've got a new system and yeah, teething troubles of course.
Hopefully if you've signed up it now looks ok in your inbox - better than it has done for years - the version on the site is still a bit crappy.
But lots of things to do and improve as we do them.
And the actually content itself - you probably don't care about how hard it was to send.
Consciously made it very about b3ta projects - stuff...

Hello lovely patrons. You've made this happen. We're doing newsletters.
The first will be this Friday.
We're moving from yahoogroups - yeah it's nostalgic being on a terrible old email service from the 1970s but it basically broke in 2013 and we need something else.
So please sign up here to be the first to get the all new newsletter sent using exciting things like AWS and CLOUDS and SPARKLY STUFF.
Do sign up. DO IT NOW.
