Well what started out as a "quick" tidy up has taken on a rather "restored " look . sorry about how long this episode has taken to produce but there has been one job after another with this bike and that shows with how long the episode is, currently it stands over 40 mins and I've still got the ending to edit so we may crack the hour mark with this one.
Anyway I'll get back to the editing and I'll see you all again soon, with some more updates about upcoming projects and developme...

Well I'm back at work and the beta is sludge free looking unrecognizable and almost ready to tackle some rough terrain and looking to the future I was asked the take a look at another Ducati this time a very collectable one a 748SPS. It wont be a restoration as it doesn't need it but it would be a major service, belts, possibly some paint work and a few other cosmetic jobs to get it on top form again. So the question is do I take it on as a little side project between the next BIG restoration...

Sadly this weeks episode will be delayed by a few days as I'm really ill at the moment I've caught some sort of bug, don't worry its not covid 😅 but it has absolutely floored me! maybe with all the precautions that were in place my immune system isn't used to fighting off flu bugs or whatever anymore but anyway always look on the bright side being confined to the house means more time to browse classic auctions to find the next awesome project 😉 and catch up with all the comments ...

So as it turns out my biggest mistake this time was not going to Beta direct, My usual instincts of "avoid the manufacturer at all costs as it will bankrupt you" was unfounded in this case as Beta themselves still stock just about every part for my bike and at very reasonable money so yeah shot myself in the foot this time haha but lets look on the bright side at least I'll be able to get all the bits I need now to recommission the Rev3 😀

When I started tearing the Beta apart getting parts was the furthest thing from my mind but as it turns out getting bits for a 2004 Rev3 Beta is more difficult than getting them for an 86 CR250, who'd have thought it! This is just a small selection of what what I've managed tracked down so far. Bearings and seals etc are easy as they standard across the board but when you come to things like decals, plastics, funny little brackets forget it its either second hand or you're making it you...

So it took a few days and a bit of begging but I managed to borrow this little lathe for a few days in order to rebuild the foot pump properly. Its been a bit of a steep learning curve as I've never really done much lathe work but now that I've got the feel for it a little I feel like I need to get my own bigger one ASAP as its so much fun learning a new skill and being able to turn my own parts plus it opens a whole new area of restoration / custom building up to me and yourselves ;)...

Do you have spare pallet wood and PVC pipe off cuts? Then why not build a very crude cable/zip tie organizer? No longer am i at the mercy of rogue cable/zip ties with this storage system trouble making cable ties as held firmly in check until needed! no more fumbling around in packs looking for the correct size only for several hundred of them in varying sizes all to fly out at you causing much heartache and stress as they laugh at you as they tumble to the workshop knowing they will ju...

Keep it sensible, nice but not too nice to give it that old world look.... then as per usual Mr RRC gets carried away and gives it an unreal amount of gloss! haha. It does look epic though! :)

It may not look like much but just getting the jack apart and rust free was a challenge in itself, now the fun starts making it look better then the day it was driven out of the showroom in the tool kit of a Fordson tractor ( or so I'm told) . More updates coming soon.

PS. It wont be painted Fordson blue ;)

The past few days have been really long, boring and just a little tedious with nothing but sanding sanding sanding, then a bit more sanding and just for good measure a bit more and then repeat it all again with the polisher but when you stand back and look at that shine.. WOW!!! who'd have thought old plastics could be revived like that :)
Final episode coming soon ;)

So, here we have a couple of little side projects I have lined up for restoration, after the CR is finished of course ;) . There's a proper old school Fordson tractor jack from around 1945 which looks simple to restore but a guarantee it'll be anything but lol and secondly a suitably scabby cam cover from a Nissan SR20 engine which will be restored and painted a ridiculously bright color and hung on the cam cover wall as i feel its still a bit bare.... The question is which one do...

Sorry Guys but you are going to be a little annoyed with me, the reason I've been so quiet this past week is because I've been very busy with a few outside jobs I've taken in to help fund the final stages of the CR250 restoration. I know its not the update you were hoping for but during these tough times needs must and after the couple of mechanical jobs and resprays are done with I can crack on at full speed and get the CR done and move onto the next project which everyday I'm homing in on, ...

Well the with the engine rebuilt and back in the frame the biggest hurdle is now in the past. I honestly cant wait to fire this bike up,the compression is unreal now! I think its going to be a real handful to control.... Excellent! :)
The video will be coming out either tomorrow or Sunday, I had to do a fair bit of re-editing as I wasn't entirely happy with the feel of the video but i think its all good now.
Anyway I'll stop yapping and get busy with finishing off the...

HPP, what does it stand for what does it do? Well it stands for Honda Power Port and its Hondas way of creating a nice smooth torque curve as 2 strokes have a characteristic of either having all top end power and no bottom and vice versa. I've explained the system in more detail in the upcoming episode but its safe to say mines have certainly seen better days as you can see its carbon and oil fouled like you wouldn't believe making them very sticky and inefficient , the manual recommends de-c...

The next episode of the CR250 is almost ready, I just need to pick up my freshly rebuilt crank tomorrow and finish a bit of assembly. I would have rebuilt the crank myself but as i don't do it often I'm not set up properly so it made much more sense to send it out and i can concentrate on more important things like removing the rust from all the internal parts and there was A LOT of it!! the pics above give you an idea of what I was dealing with. all the gear sets and all other internal were ...

Another little addition to the valve cover wall since that's all its really good for now lol.... However as the time passes I feel myself getting more and more drawn to the idea of trying to fix it with the JB Weld method just to see if I can.... Is that sad?
