... but I know at some point we have to get on with the rest of Matthew 27. I just think this little nugget is so dang interesting, and way more important than it gets credit for. I think it's confusing for people, and so it tends to get glossed over, but I think Matthew views it as a huge payoff for everything he's been setting up.

... because immediately upon Jesus' death, we run into a stack of phenomena that suggest Jesus was in fact the Messiah and the son of god. Everyone of these strange manifestations points to something specific, but together they mark a change in narrative momentum from darkness toward light.

Not sure how that works, but that's where we're at; the Bible holds this out as being the pivotal moment in the history of humanity.

I thought you might like this little bit that Jeff put together for the end of today's episode. I found it fun and figured it might make for a good ringtone/notification you could assign to your incoming spam calls.
Thanks for making this podcast happen.

So much happens so fast in these few verses of Matthew 27, and we're going to do our best to pick up what Matthew is putting down.

I continue to giggle at how different the tone of a sermon for a church is from the tone of what we do together every day, but I still enjoy sharing some of these with you, the patrons, from time to time. This is one that we'd briefly posted on a bye week here on the podcast a couple of years ago, and it's now only available here.
Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for supporting this thing.

So many payoffs in these final two chapters.

This livestream will be for both TMBH podcast patrons, and patrons of the TMBH YouTube channel.
So much stuff is happening!!!!! YouTube as a company has been moving in new directions, and I have some fresh ideas for what that means for the YouTube channel and the podcast of the same name. I've been putting a TON of thought and effort into making a plan for the next few years for what I do on the Internet and with Bible stuff in general.
I'd love to bring you up to speed on that an...

This is the inevitable week where we look at what the Romans actually physically did to people who they viewed as problematic. We're starting with flogging, and will end up with crucifixion, but there are a whole bunch of other things in between that we need to talk about as well. I promise we won't linger too long, but it is important and it will be interesting.

...we're just about through the blame phase, and as the week goes on, we're getting into the suffering phase of the story. This part is rough.

.... there are like 800 verses in Matthew chapter 26? This is a whopper of a chapter, but we're getting into the highest drama segment right now, and it's surprisingly intense for how familiar we all are with the story.
I absolutely love that I get to do this with all of you everyday, and you are the reason it exists. That is never lost on me, and I'm very thankful.

It's interesting to watch how much slower we move as we get toward the end. Part of that might be that I want to savor it, and part of that is just the simple reality that there's so much to pay off the further in we get.

Here's a sermon that used to live on the podcast feed, but (like all the special bonus week episodes that are made of old sermons I did) that no longer lives there because I pull these down after a couple of months so that the podcast feed stays clean for people working through the back catalogue.
That was a lot.
What I mean to say is thank you for supporting the podcast, thank you for trusting me with part of your day, and thank you in advance for being so gracious with wha...

We're not going all the way down the rabbit hole, but we are at least considering the big picture of how Christians read Jesus'words at the last supper in different ways.
Thank you for your graciousness.

I cannot stress enough that Jeff is the talent and the mind behind this. I help some. That said, this is quite literally this track's debut. The band is called Rooktown and the album comes out next month. We had a lot of fun with it.
This song has references to things we've been talking about in the book of Matthew, and I know you'll catch those references and ideas. With that in mind, it seemed right to debut this track here. Thanks for supporting TMBH.
