I wanted to just get away from the previous scene and continue to wrap up the arc.

Plus I wanted to get back to the television broadcast style strips once more before the end of this plot line.

If it weren't for the bite blocker his shot would have ended a zombie.

I struggled with the composition for panel three a bit. Initially it was going to be just George's ass filling most of the frame but it was way too boring to even finish sketching so I tried out a few other poses and cropped them until I figured out something that wasn't awful.

I had to redo the third panel because I forgot about the stupid manacles.

I've been binging Arrow lately, after watching both Supergirl and The Flash, and it makes me want to do more Zombie-man stories... but we'll have to figure out how that would work in the new environment.

Zombies at the Altar - part 34

When I planned out this arc Robert was supposed to be the zombie in the cross hairs but I figured there would be more impact if it was George. The fact that we see other zomies wearing the bite blocker and manacles wasn't as important as working toward the end of the arc that much quicker.

I like the panel treatment for the third panel. I've used windows and phone cords before so when it makes sense for me to do something different it's neat.

Wasn't happy with the sketch of the next page in the Jack and Jules story so I did a pin-up.

I really dig the priest. George was larger in the sketch than he ended up being due to the dialogue not fitting so I scaled him down and it worked out.

This is really stupid. I'm aware.

I like the design for this old priest... makes me want to come up with some exorcism story so I can bring him and a young priest sometime.

My sleep schedule is hella wacked. I've mentioned it lately but it's really effed up so the strips go up in about the same amount of time I've put into them, it's just pushed back due to my waking up in the evening. I'm attempting to fix the schedule, but it's difficult since when I get it kind of on trac...

I'll enjoy getting George out of his getup but until then it's very minimal changes per panel that I have to make for him.

Zombies at the Altar - part 32

This one references the time George went after the Pope in the one hundredth ZR strip.

Every once and a while I like to go back to something really old to have it give either the present or the past some more flavor. It's one of the benefits of having a comic that has lasted as long as ZR has... it gives me lots of continuity to play with.

A few of my friends and favorite artists have been doing Pop versions of themselves and their characters so it sparked the idea of how one would do George as a Pop figure…

Zombies at the Altar - part 30

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first comic that just Jules and Zoey in it together.

Zoey is an expert when it comes to zombies. She's grown up in a funeral home and been in a relationship since she was 18 (minus the time George and her were broken up after he was receased). Jules is taking full advantage of her skills.

With the attacks in the last week (from the zombies getting out) it's a very important skill to have.

In the time skip we experienced, Zoey started interning with Jules. It helps take up the slack from John not being there and she gets college credit.

Truthfully she was supposed to start this a while ago... back when Jules was on his extended honeymoon. But I knew the John situation was coming and thought it fit better here. The only problem with it meant I wasn't going to get back to Zoey at college stuff for awhile.

Now that this step is back in place things will line up better for tha...

It was a fairly quick background to do but I really dig it. I didn't want to do just a flat color or a simple gradient so I tried to think of a wall treatment that would be interesting... the cut stone with like granite felt authentic.

Every once and a while I'll do more than just the line art while sketching so I'll do shading or bucket fills for darker sections... I do it when I'm still thinking about compositions or something and not ready to just move on.  So that's what is going on with Zoey in the first two panels.

Zombies at the Altar - part 27

And this is the reason they stopped by the coffee shop...

Okay the real reason is also because Drew is working there. We haven't heard much from Drew in almost a year-- because plots that don't involve him have taken up our time. But he's still around and I wanted him to feel more at home in his new body... so he's finally cut "his" hair.

I also decided I wanted him to wear glasses. In life, before he was a ghost, Drew would have worn contacts-- the guy who inspired Drew did. And who is ...
