Coachella Return Vlog Part 1

First of all, thanks for your patience in my absence from YouTube, Patreon, and the internet in general.  I will be posting an update about why/how that all happened and a plan for a path forward soon, but I didn't want to "return" with a lame-o explanation video about why I've been gone. It’s all come down to this

Just finished up with our rehearsals in Las Vegas. Its been a nonstop battle getting my two new shows out on the road. A few weeks working on the new G Jones festival show as well as almost a whole month getting this all new Louis The Child Euphoria tour rig out the door with all new programming. I can’t post too much until we have our first full rig show, but I have plenty more from our rehearsals and build days.

Last Day of Previz for Tour!

Scott and I have been putting in some serious hours to get the next tour ready to rock. We have 3 full days at Kinetic Lighting in Los Angeles right after our shows in Boston. Excited to head back home and finish off the programming.

First all-nighter in almost a year. Nature is healing.

Very excited that I've recently added a couple of new artists to my workload. I've spent the last week and a half figuring out the best way to integrate midi notes into a "timecode" show through ableton for G Jones without being able to use any SMPTE or MTC. Finally got it figured out and I thought I'd show you the basics. It was important to use the artist's existing workflow with midi notes, so I put in the effort to restructure my showfile to make it easy and flexible for us going forward....

Why I am buying an MA3 - Patreon Preview Video

Well it's 95% official, I'm just waiting on a few final pieces of the puzzle to come together, but today was delivery day for the replacement console for the compact XT that had a hardware issue. ACT sent me a Light as a replacement, and if all goes well in the next couple of weeks, this will be the unit I buy.

I would greatly appreciate feedback on the video to see if there are any things I missed in editing since I was up late last night piecing it together :)

Some fun with a Capture Concept

Sneak peak at one of the tour package concepts I’m working on this week for a new artist I’ll be working with next year. Two automated segments of GT with dartz top and bottom, line of x4 bars, and of course a jarag 😎. The capture rotator and mover features allow for a ton of cool configurations.

For every show that you see, there are many more concepts that never see the light of day. Got my fingers crossed for this one.

360 Cam From Breakaway

Couldn't do 360 for the night time set unfortunately, but still thought it would be fun to set up the 360 camera at front of house for our fist real gig back. View doesn't get much better!

Who Thought Smoke Bombs Were a Good Idea?

Don't worry... vlog on the way from this weekend as well. Just got back home from Mexico last night - feels like a lot of people had shows this weekend and I'm so happy to see it. We had daytime and nighttime sets for this show, but really who thought smoke bombs were a good idea here??

Full Weekend!

Started off Saturday morning at 4am by flying out to New Jersey to do a gig on an MQ500M (and hanging pin spots... lol), then decided to book my return flight later in the day today so I could stop by ACT Lighting and check out their USA headquarters. Got to hang with the software support crew and talk MA3 features. All that topped off with a regular slice and I’m on my way back to Seattle now.

New Video Preview + Patreon Hang Out Update

Live Stream Hangout Update

I'm so sorry that the stream did not happen today as it was scheduled in the google drive folder. I simply put the wrong date for the hangout/work stream in my personal calendar and was prepared to do it next week on the 26th, not today. Totally my mistake. My new tool for testing the performance of new lighting instruments

I always refrained from doing more reviews and demos of lighting fixtures since I didn’t have an objective way to measure their performance numbers. That changes today! I’ve wanted one of these for a while but never went through with it, but this is going to be SO useful. Now let’s see who will let me borrow a Forte, Huracan, Ultra, and Mondrian.

Testing rendering settings

Doing some test renders to compare all the different settings in capture. Some of the results have been surprising. Especially how bitrate inversely effects render times. Working on an exhaustive video showing how all the different types of objects, lenses, environments, reflections, etc impact render times in capture. F in the comments for my blade pro that has been stuck on render duty for the past week straight.

April Updates - Things Are Turning Around!

Over the next few days I'll be making some changes to the structure of Patreon so I can put out more content. We'll be going back to monthly private streams and hang outs. If  you are a current Patron, you should not really notice any changes. The only big change is that there will only be two tiers going forward to keep things simple.

Connecting Capture with MA2 Preview Video

Wrapping up more corporate work

Really thankful that I’ve been able to fill in my schedule with gigs at a local studio shooting corporate videos. Before COVID, I maybe only did 2-3 corporate gigs a year and it’s been a great learning process to get more hands on with lighting for cameras instead of “atomics go brr”

It’s given me a whole new respect for CRI and TLCI values :)
