Chapter 17 - Body Composition II

It turned out that enchanting a mouth wasn’t as simple as the eyes had been for whatever reason. It just wouldn’t happen, no matter what Logan tried. Eventually Logan just slumped on his bed and before Freya had fully wrapped herself around him, he was already asleep.

In the morning he woke up like a man possessed. Logan suspected Tumor was tinkering with his brain chemistry and motivation, but the AI was almost offended by such a notion.

Regardless, After a quick wash, piss a...

Chapter 16 - Body Composition

When all the fuss and excitement of their delve had calmed down Logan took the darkmetal objects from his storage space. He was sitting on a workbench fashioned for working wood and clay. A lot of people, especially the ones with an artisan-type class had formed a semicircle around him. Logan had never been afflicted with stage-fright, as he had to deal with red carpet and paparazzis since childhood.

“You don’t mind them at first, you know,” Logan said to Tumor as he thumbed the d...

Chapter 15 - Bad News

Logan didn’t remember when his body had been this beat. According to Tumor he had a damaged tendon on his heel, hamstring and hip, as well as two broken ribs and a fracture on his shoulder, wrist and ankle. Not to mention all the damage that his muscles had accrued.

Small price to pay for being alive.

Kat and Balmer had put his arms on their shoulders and taken him back home. Now Logan was lying on a blanket on the ground and waiting for their [Healer]....

Chapter 14 - Quicker Execution

I have to move fast.

“Remember to ululate constantly, Logan.”

He starts doing it immediately. I don’t need the input immediately, but it helps Logan. I take over the Armor. Normally I let Logan guide it and I only shift it accordingly. Now I stiffen it and run a current of Numa through it, taking control.

I duck and start picking up the cuffs and the collar-stick. Logan’s muscles and joints can’t keep up. I have to slow down. If I could sigh I would. What fragile t...

Chapter 13 - Quick Thinking

“Raarh!”

Logan heard Kat take a blind swing, but she clearly hit nothing. There was a whoosh, an oof and Kat collapsed to the ground. The Dorves chuckled in their muffled voices. They must have been wearing masks.

“We thought we heard somethin’,” the same voice that had spoken before said. “Didn’t think it’d be you folk.”

“Look at this, Balmir,” another voice said. “They captured one of these.”

“Brave fighters these,” a third voice said, l...

Chapter 12 - Surprise

They left after they had drained the crystal. The tally was good. Kat had leveled up her [Striking] subclass to 24, as well as her [Power Strike] to level 8 and [Tough Skin] to level 6. She also got two increases in her Power attribute, bringing it up to 26. All in all excellent progress. Balmer tried his best grimace of a smile when she recounted her progress in excitement.

Logan’s progression wasn’t quite as prolific. He was highe...

Chapter 11 - Windfall

Logan’s eyes went wide. They were standing in a treasure trove. Darkmetal pickaxes in neat rows under a crust of dust. As well as five foot thin sticks made of the same black gleaming metal. They had a sharp blue Numa Crystal on the other end, as if a speartip. The crystal tip was dim, long ago drained of energy. Logan wondered what the First Folk had needed it for in here.

But soon his attention was stolen by the crown jewel of this treasure trove. A sizeable chunk, a veritable bould...

I need a day off ;__;

Sorry guys, but I can't post this weekend.

I really need to sit down and think about the story. I don't want to write drivel to you guys. And for this I need to slow down the pace a little bit.

I still want to provide daily updates if I can, but right now I can't, and I need to just sit down with pen and paper and think about the story, instead of trying to frantically hit word counts.

Sorry, and I hope you understand. I am doing this so my quality does...

Chapter 10 - Risky Plan

“You want a body?” Logan asked. Kat and Balmer turned.

[Just something simple. I understand we are low both on Numa and the darkmetal.]

“There are a lot of things we will need both for,” Logan said. “But I get your point.”

[I am not trying to persuade you into making suboptimal choices for the people you are responsible for.]

“I’m responsible for you too, you know.”

[Hm… That is an interesting thought. I am not sure how a...

Chapter 9 - Requests

Logan was back in the second tier of the ruins, approximately where they had stopped their delve last time. He figured if he had found weird blue monster-people here, he might find them again. He also had a hunch they could find something useful here, like darkmetal.

“Logan,” Balmer said after they’d been silently skulking around for two hours and finally stopped for a break. “I don’t want to complain, but you’re killing us man.”

Kat said nothing, she only gave Balme...

Chapter 8 - Devotion

Rachel was slipping soup into her unconscious brother’s mouth. It had an odd scent, but then again many things were odd in this new world.

It had been quite a few days and he hadn’t woken up. She had changed the bandages on his stump daily, and while it didn’t look good, it wasn’t like it was pustulent. She tried Damian’s forehead.

He definitely has a fever.

It sent a pang of guilt running down her body. She was feeling right as rain. The fresh air and foo...

Chapter 7 - Headaches

Logan and Scilla followed Perkings outside the village walls, where the other hunting group and some of their fighting force was gathered in a circle.

On the ground were two men. The other was one of Logan’s men, the [Swordsman], one of their best fighters. Dr. Rosenberg was already kneeling beside him, with a block of darkmetal by his side. Logan had made sure to give their [Healer] a self-recharging Numa battery. One hand on the battery, and another...

Chapter 6 - Steering the Boat

Logan started the day with fixing up the boats. He took Simmons away from his work to carry lumber to the riverside with him. The large blonde man of stoic disposition only nodded and picked up a whole tree trunk on his shoulder to carry uphill north.

Logan set down a hefty log by the riverbank, which the Armor allowed him to carry, but it was just a twig compared to Simmons’s load.

“Thanks, Simmons,” Logan said.

“That’s all?” Simmons asked.

“Yeah, don’...

Chapter 5 - Home Again

Logan’s wear and fatigue from the delve was washed away when he saw their camp. At this point it was almost ready to be called a village. A great wall of thick wooden stakes established a circular perimeter of a hundred and twenty yards. Proper wooden houses were set up in two neat rows in the right side at the entrance. In the middle was the fire, which was lit every evening, and it still called new people to the camp. Especially so, because it seems people arrived in this world at differe...

Chapter 4 - Rachel Vendermann

Rachel Vendermann was sitting next to her sleeping brother in a cruddy small hut made of clay, sticks and leaves. Damian was only twelve years old and woefully unprepared for this world. He was a good kid. Nerdy and quiet, prone to chubbiness and late nights with his online friends over video games.

It was a small wonder he wasn’t dead. They had been attacked by those things again. Monsters. The nasty faceless fiends with scythes for arms were the most common ones. They were deadly fa...

Chapter 3 - Something New

The snarl awoke the room. Another figure dropped from the roof, and a third came up from behind a pillar. Logan took few steps back and shone the light at them. They were grey of skin and blue glowing veins criss-crossed their muscular bodies. They were hunched and thick of build, and with their rabid blue eyes they glared at Logan, snarling ominously.

The first one charged at Logan and leapt at him arms extended.

“Shield!” Logan shouted and a blue umbrella of energy sprouted ...

Chapter 2 - Spelunking

Logan Specter held up his arm straight to give the three of them light from his [Enchanted] ring. It was the wooden one on his pinky, which was just for a light enchantment.

“Yup,” Kat said, coming up next to Logan to peer down. “That’s a big gorge alright.”

“You guys think you can make the jump?” Logan asked.

Balmer came up to them and blew out air when he saw the dark abyss below them. The ledge on the otherside was at least a foot higher tha...

Chapter 1 - The Herald

Malcolm Specter woke up with amnesia. It was dark. He tried to look around, but found he could not move his head. This angered him. Was he captive? His mind felt strange, foggy and weak. He tried to push away this weakness to make way for his resolve of steel, but he found he could not.

Where am I?

His last memory was of him holding a Numa crystal by the nightfire of the camp. He knew, just knew time had passed since then. But whenever he tried to reach for those memories...

So stay tuned for that. Love you all!

Chapter 70 - Succession

Logan was surprised in no little measure to wake up in one of the houses he had built the other day at the settlement by the pond. Next to him was a conclave of people with worried expressions, most closest Dr. Rosenberg, wiping the blue juice of a Numa Fruit from his lips.

“Welcome back,” Freya said, scooting closer and grabbing Logan’s hand.

“W-what happened?” Logan croaked.

Snoff came closer. His porcelain skin shone almost too brightly in the dim hut. For once ...

Chapter 69 - Attacked

Logan roared as he struck the first great lizard-beast charging towards him. Tumor had morphed the most of the Armor into a hefty zweihander, with which Logan cleaved at the first beast.

The blade cut true, slicing half a foot into the beast’s neck, but it got lodged on the shoulder.

By the time Tumor had morphed and receded the blade, the other crocodile creature snapped at Logan. Logan dodged. Where had been Logan’s head was his torso. The jagged teeth managed not to penetra...

Logan dashed through the swamp with speed he had never experienced before. He must have been leaping ten feet per step, sending swamp water in the air in arcs behind him. He stepped on myriad a creature hostile and not, but it wasn’t a time to be discerning.

That idiot father must have still been using Numa.

Logan saw the attack from a long distance away. Trees were felled, a score of dead bodies thrown around like dolls of a petulant child, scattered and ragdolled, wit...

“I leveled up,” Freya said. “Like a lot.”

They were still sitting by the grove, Logan leaning against the trunk of a Numa Fruit Tree and Freya leaning against him. King Sluikumar had ordered tables and food be brought to the grove for a picnic. Logan wasn’t sure if this constant feasting was for the benefit of the guests or the hosts, but he and Tumor wouldn’t say no to some more pie.

“That’s cheating!” Logan protested. “I didn’t get anything.”

Chapter 65 - Strategic Resource Management

Malcolm Specter looked at the sky and nodded to himself. Despite losing a good third of his followers, the camp was thriving. He could deal with the loss. Losing Simmons and that young woman being able to use Numa had been a blow, but three more users of Numa had trickled into the camp.

That beast in the sky… Levemoth. It must be thirty miles away. Now is our time.

The great monster was raining destruction down on some other settlement. It seems that the Dorves had been...

Chapter 64 - A New Home

Logan was surprised to see a half-made wall made of wood. Made of woods would be the more apt description. It was as if Simmons had just chosen the most barely manageable sized tree trunks for a baby elephant to move. But they were stacked in a neat row facing towards the west and sliding towards north-west, which was the opposite side to the pond, with the cliff and the waterfall being dead north.

A chorus of tired but enthusiastic cheers came over the camp as Logan returned. ...

Logan accepted a clay cup of water and gulped it down in one go. Another followed. The remaining people of the settlement were tripping over themselves to make Logan comfortable.

He wanted to tell the people to go mourn their dead and to go fix up their home and everything except to focus on him. But here he was, sitting in his armor like a warrior-chieftain from legends in the middle of a ci...

Chapter 62 - Simmons

Simmons looked up at the sky. That great beast, Levemoth, was there again. Simmons grunted to himself with displeasure. He had grown used to seeing the damned thing as of late. It seemed Logan had been right. The monster’s appearances have grown more frequent since the Dorves had given them toys.

This time the giant monster was further in the horizon, raining its black scourge on someone else.

Must be another settlement.

He should voice this notion to Mr. Specter....

Chapter 61 - Field Test

Logan rushed through the jungle. He kept a sharp eye on where Levemoth floated. It let out a roar and the Black Rain fell from the thundercloud surrounding it. This was a big one. Was it just him, or had Levemoth grown a little? Now, that was a scary thought.

Surging through the foliage, Logan let Tumor work its magic with the Armor. Nothing stood in Logan’s way, as his passage tossed up tufts of grass and a rain of earth with every dash. Everything blurred.

Chapter 60 - Onwards and Upwards

Logan ended up picking [Mass Production]. He was an optimist by nature. He had a talent for getting out of (and admittedly in) trouble. He trusted his luck wouldn’t run out, as long as he was careful to have a full internal Numa charge whenever possible.

Logan spent some time leveling up the new skill and letting Tumor work on crunching the numbers on how efficient the Numa usage was with mass production. It turned out very.

Logan had made a single boul...
