Sometimes We All Feel Like Slightly Panicking.

I'm not sure how much this will achieve, but if nothing else, do consider contributing to any of the following charities.

Commission: BLM

A rough, recent job for Bren MacDonald to commemorate the NBA  players who demonstrated their support for the ongoing protests against  racial inequality by refusing to play.

I'm not  usually motivated to make social statements with my art, but I was glad  to get an incentive to leave a little mark of my own on this moment in  history.

Another Tale From the Wooden Castle

Happy Fourth of July, everyone.  As happy as you can manage, all things  considered.  I meant to have this done sooner, but things are tough all  over.  My computer keeps crashing, the weather keeps crashing, the  country keeps crashing, and I keep crashing.  Lots of crashing.

Still, I'm happy that I get to drop this latest addendum to Zandra's  lore on a holiday.  And what's more appropriate for today than spending  time in th...

Patreon Palaver

Hey all.  It looks like Patreon is going to be assigning sales taxes to certain reward tiers, so I've streamlined my campaign.  I don't believe this will be a problem since most of the stuff I offer hasn't been asked for in years, especially since the comic ended.

I think I've made it so that you won't receive any extra charges, but let me know if you get a bill for fifty bucks because you've received my gratitude or something.  Heaven knows I'm thankful for your support,...

Files from the Stone Society: Easter

From the writings of Stan Stone, noted Lepologist (date unknown):

As times changed and rabbits began to walk and talk, the “Easter Bunny” became an increasingly problematic figure.  The Springtimes of those early years heralded a plethora of confusing encounters as the nascent Mimsy Pook (nee “High Rabbits”) emerged from the wild to curiously scrutinize men and women in costumes, many presumably acting on a subconscious impulse to seek out their progenitors. &nbs...

Clarity and Khazandra love to be silly together.

Keep secure, everyone!  Don't be foolish in the bad way!  Stick close to home if you can, wash your hands, and maybe peruse a charity or two, like First Responders First!  In any case, play it safe...

Files from the Stone Society: Vampire Weddings

3/20/2020:  Happy Spring everyone.  Well… as happy as we can manage!  I'll put my real-world commentary before the flavor text today because there's important stuff to talk about right now.

It’s been too long, but I wanted to finish this so I could maybe perk some folks up with another bit of post-Zebra Girl world building.  I know a lot of you might need cheering.  I do too!  Yeah, it’s not exactly easy street in my neck of the woods either.  Yo...

Critique the Cover, Cherish a Song

So!  This is what I've done for the cover of my interminable Omnibus.  Would you buy a book that looked like this?  Is it good?  Too dark?  Too little color?  I need input!  I've got to finish this whole thing this year, you know!  Hopefully in the next few months.  Have to be patient, do it right....

You might notice that it looks familiar.  The design is from within the comic!  2020-02-16 23:27:57 +0000 UTC View Post

Portrait of an Obsessive Artist

Working on this last Zebra Girl book is hard.  It’s taken a lot of my  focus, I haven’t had the motivation to simply make art for months.  It’s  depressing, but my muse finally perked up when I got the strange urge  to do like I never do and draw serious.

I’m going to bare my soul  here.  Okay?  I want to be honest.  That’s me up there.  Notice the  baggy jeans, hanging from my belt because I lost weight years ago and I &n...

For Future's Sake

Happy New Year, everyone.  Thanks for everything.  It's because of you that Zebra Girl grew up, found her hooves, and made her way into the future.  And (most of) that goes for me, too!  If and when we see her again, it will be because of what you gave to her and to me over the past ten years.  I hope you all have a lot to gain in the new decade, and I hope I have the privilege ...

Black Betty: Teasing Trailer

Hey everyone!  Be warned, the enclosed comic is raunchy.  And very sketchy.

I hope you’re having a great holiday season, or just enjoying the end of the year.  I didn’t get around to saying it last month, but I want you all to know how thankful I am that you’re here to follow my work!  It means so much to me, whether you’re a patron or simply a reader.  Just laying your eyes on this makes you a friend, and I send my best wishes to you all.

So, here...

Progress Report: October 1st

Happy October, everyone!

I technically made that video as a reaction to the resolution of the recent tremor in the crust of pop culture (and as a counter to my initial response), but I thought it was just as appropriate to express my feelings about my recent progress on the Omnibus!  Well, except for that last ...

Spider-Damnit

Woof.  Just getting something off my chest.  I'm a creature of passion, y'know?  I'll spare you the accompanying rant, though it's on DeviantArt if you're interested.

Incidentally, I had to take the computer back into the shop for a few days....  They think it's my old version of Photoshop CS5 that's still causing occasional crashes, but it's not a big deal, real...

Back in Business! And Zandra and Betty Play Twister.

Alright, my computer’s more or less fixed!  The technicians just had to replace its innards with something wholly different and transfer all the data to a backup and then to a laptop and then to a backup and then back to my computer.  I think.  And it worked!  It’s only crashed once since I retrieved it.  So thanks, everyone, for being patient and for offering advice.  To celebrate, here’s that picture I promised of Zandra and Betty playing Twister (the ful...

Minor Difficulties

Hi everyone.  Just letting you know that my primary computer's in the shop for a few days on account of frequent crashing (and dwindling storage capacity).  I'm slightly nervous, since it's pretty much my life's work in that little box and I don't currently have a backup.  Not for lack of trying!  But my backup device isn't working right either, so it's also in the shop.  Fingers crossed!

If I'm telling the truth, I'm feeling a fair amount of guilt for not makin...

Chapter Logos

7/20/2019:  Hello there!  Joe here.  I hope you’re all having a nice Summer!  Be mindful of the heat.  Most of us aren’t as resilient as Jack.

Sorry I haven’t been more visible lately.  My mother is recovering from her hip surgery slowly but (hopefully) surely.  We’ve been doing exercises three times a day, meeting with visiting therapists, and coping with the lingering, intermittent pain which I guess comes with the territory.  After help...

Oh, Life.

6/15/2019:  Accidents happen.  God, do they happen.

So, as you may recall, my father recently had kidney surgery, which we had hoped would be the last of a string of medical adventures which began with his wrist marrying a sidewalk.  And we were in the home stretch!  He seemed to be on the mend!

Then he got an infection.  A lingering side effect of the operation.  Not a super serious one!  He’ll be okay, but it demanded attention and more hos...

Marvelous Days

5/12/2019:  Just saw Avengers: Endgame for the second time after marathon viewing about half the MCU library with family.  It's truly remarkable just how much you notice, how much detail they put into the script of this film, right down to (spoilers) Hope's knowing smirk towards Scott when she calls Captain America "Cap."  And you know I appreciate detail!

I think we can safely say this whole thing might just be the greatest achievement in super...

Calling for More Input

Woof.  Man, those fancy swirly designs are time-consuming.   Anyway!  I wanted to show my current prototype for a page of the  Omnibus.  I've listened to what you had to say and I'm running it past  you again since, as we've established, I can't be trusted to design  these things without input.

Compared with the previous design the  border is more intricate on the outer side, which I think will look  very handsome when one page mirrors t...

Bouncing Betty

4/20/2019:  Hello everyone!  I hope you're having a nice weekend.  I wanted to  wish you all a happy Easter, and if you don't celebrate it in any  particular fashion then just enjoy the candy.

This piece is one I've  been especially eager to show since it demonstrates a solution to a  conundrum:  How can a certain wild rabbit fit into the life of a child?   How can a nakedly obscene creature like her reach out to someone innocent?...

Calling for Input

Hey, people!  Listen, I need help.  History has taught me that my design sense is questionable at best, and you all have a stake in the Zebra Girl omnibus!  I want to make sure it's up to your standards.

So!  Here's a tentative mock-up of what a page from the collection might look like, roughly, more or less.  I'm planning for the hardcover to be 8.25'' X 10.75'', a bit larger than the individual volumes.  This will provide room to include commentary beneat...

Files from the Stone Society: Succubi

From the writings of Victoria Stone, noted Vampirologist (date unknown):

“The  Succubus as we know her is a recent development.  Though the term has  existed in folklore since before the 15th century, modern historians now  suspect that the legend began as a mythologized interpretation of  straightforward vampiric activity which conflated the occult with sexual  promiscuity.  However, others believe that the Succubus was in fact a  distinct ...

No Rest for the Wabbit

Hey everybody.  It’s the turning of the month, and you deserve an update.  I wish I could say I’ve made significant progress towards the Omnibus, but… well, I’ve kept pretty busy.  My family has been in need lately.

In case you hadn’t heard, shortly before my sister had her baby last year my father tripped on a sidewalk in New York City and shattered his wrist.  JonTron can poke fun, but those half-inch rises are serious business!  Dad called me up whi...

Listen, everyone!  Listen!   Here’s a story about  stories.  Once upon a time there were tales of Zebra Girl, and the world  she lived in.  Ones which I didn’t write!  Authored by imaginative and  talented fans over the years, they brought me enormous pride and  satisfaction.  I read them again and again, and maybe you did too.   Sometimes I even made original illustrations, just for these special  stories!

Volume 5 is Available Again
