Status update

Happy new year and thanks to everybody for support during 2018!

I want bring more light on what's going on and what can you expect in near future. First of all I'm still working on theming rework, which is blocking a lot of other future improvements. It's a lot of refactoring throughout the whole application and it's taking longer then expected. Current plan is to have this finished sometime in February. After that I will open new polls and prepare new roadmap based on your votes.

Reached first goal!

Thanks everyone for contributing, we reached the first goal! I can now fully cover all technical costs running Playnite. I'm planning to launch forums and extensions gallery soon and your contributions will help running it.

The next goal is quite more ambitious and if we reach it I'll be able to work on Playnite full time.

I'm also still rethinking Patreon rewards and what rewards I could add (possibly other reward tiers). If you have some suggestions feel free to comment under this post...

Changes to release schedule

Good news everyone (hopefully)! I'll be changing how new Playnite versions are being developed and released. This is primarily based on how development on 3.0 and 4.0 progressed (not as well as I imagined). I identified theses issue about how things are done currently, basically all come from the fact that releases are too big:

  • A lot of finished features wait for overall release even that they are ready to be released
  • Big gaps between releases
  • It's hard to test so many ...

4.0 release

It's finally here. Thanks for the patience, it took way longer then I anticipated. I need to mention one thing and that's the fullscreen mode. It's not in the state that I want. It's currently feature limited primarily because themming support needs to be completely rewritten (check my previous post) and it was not worth writing all the features in old system and then redoing them. I will improve it with one of the 4.x versions which is going to include new themming.

4.0 status update

Hi everyone. I want to share the status of 4.0 with you. All features are almost complete and implemented with exception of Fullscreen mode and plugin support. Plugin support is almost finished and I don't expect any issues putting it into production ready state. Sadly I can't say the same about Fullscreen mode. 4.0 development delay

First of all, I'm sorry about not posting any updates in a while. 4.0 development is not going as fast as a would like to, primarily because I was busy with other work related projects. I also underestimated complexity of some of the features going into 4.0 and I don't want to leave then out as I did in 3.0, so the development will take more time then I originally thought it would.
