I was surprised by how easily this one came together since the character is pretty detailed! it really depends on the kind of details with pixel art. it also helps when the character's reference already has great shading colors on it haha.

oc stuff

used a recent ellie doodle as a lineless demo for a friend over screenshare and ended up finishing it, mostly playing around with the shading and her fur! it's funny how I can barely sketch while talking because it's too hard to focus, but talking takes just the right amount of attention for me to stop overthinking the rest of the process and go crazy with the coloring and shading haha.

anguiculus commission process

this character is an angel of death, charming on the surface but cold and analytical underneath, and the prompt suggested either a graveyard or church as the background, so this was the perfect candidate for one of my favorite types of drawing which is "character staring at you ominously". I've done a couple graveyard backgrounds for fullbody commissions so in my hubris I thought a church would be a great idea (:

what would you like to see from me?

I'm going to ask around for suggestions but I thought I would start here first! what kinds of things are you guys most interested in seeing from me here? you can suggest new ideas, but if you want to see more of something I'm already posting like timelapses or would like to know more about specific parts of my process or anything like that, that'd be really helpful too!

this piece turned out totally different to what I had in mind which was frustrating until it was almost finished and then I thought it turned out ok actually. trust the process... 💃

I experimented with a lineless style for a bunch of these which was fun! I've been moving towards using a little bit of lineless in my pixel art style where it'll save on space without compromising detail- after trying full lineless I think I prefer how the mix of styles looks in most cases.

artfight roundup part 1

all the non pixel art pieces I made for artfight this year!
I ran out of steam earlier than I hoped and didn't get to experiment as much as I wanted, but I'm still pretty happy with most of these!

first is ellie's brother borlowen who I finally sat down and designed, then sabs thinking about things while he's supposed to be writing, wyn and his awful adoptive father figure in vampire au which is a lot, and then wyn's true form as an itemlabel ouioui.

next week I'll post this year's artfight roundup with all the finished pieces and maybe some timelapse videos of the last few sprites I'm doing!

update on a sketch of sabs and wyn that I posted here last month! been pecking at this between artfight drawings... tried a new brush for the lineart and not sure I'm into it but I'm not lining it all over again haha.

I'm totally stuck between two versions for the first piece. I think the colors of the sun and sky in the day version are really interesting but... can I really resist going with the blood moon version........ if anyone prefers one over the other feel free to comment (:>

I tried blocking out the second wip with just colors since so much of the character is covered in black. he's probably recognizable already like this, he has such a good design!
