First Concepts for Zero Dark Minis

Game designer first, miniatures manufacturer second. But, still a miniatures manufacturer. And although I've not had my eye on that particular ball for a while, the time feels right to get this thing going.

Those of you who watched my video will have seen a quick glimpse of the other two concepts (unfinished at that point). I'll post them later for you guys to exclusively ogle.

Anyway, I'm still formulating the place of these in the wider strategy but, for now, they will oper...

Precinct Omega Weekly Miniatures News Podcast #21 - Infinity 4th Edition & The Lifecycle of Tabletop Wargames

This week, the only new worth talking about is the release of the latest (fourth) edition of Infinity.  Actually, that's totally not true.  We could also talk about the HeroQuest announcement.  And the new Age of Exploration fantasy sailing game, Armada, from 2020-09-26 11:01:00 +0000 UTC View Post

Nemesis Photography

Getting some pictures done, now, as I work towards finalizing the manuscript for digital release.

If you've not seen, I posted up the beta for Patrons a few weeks ago, in August. Many thanks to those patrons who've already taken the opportunity to let me know about my mistakes. Sincerely, this is so valuable to me. An author is just too close to see the errors and read a book like this with a clear eye, so your critical insights are, well, critical.

The manuscript will be off...

Horizon Wars: Battle Royale

As promised yesterday, here's the Horizon Wars: Battle Royale supplement, which is a way of playing a multi-player game in which each player has one mech, which they build and customize for the battle, and they you play all against all until the last mech standing is the winner.

The rules allow for pilots to jump out and try to find resources to fix their mech before the game ends.  It's not been very thoroughly playtested and it's not very COVID-friendly, but if your loca...

Infinite Dark - Update September 2020

Just in case you were wondering, I hadn't forgotten Horizon Wars: Infinite Dark.

[Newcomers: Infinite Dark is going to be the third volume in the Horizon Wars series of games, covering spaceship combat.]

I recently hit upon some ideas for capturing the feel of 3-dimensional combat space without the hassle of having to account for it on a 2-dimensional playing area.  But I wanted to check them against an actual 3-dimensional play exp...

Operation Nemesis Cover Preview!

Check it out!!

The completed cover art by David Sondered utterly rocks.

Things to note include the "Zero Dark: Operation" title.  I'm conscious that we've got Horizon Wars -> Zero Dark -> Operation.  This is an at-least-semi-intentional dig at modern FPS game titles, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Warzone, which seem to be perpetually acquiring subtitles.

But I'm keen to build upon the Horizon Wars property, long term, so embedding it people's ...

Operation Nemesis - Patron Input Required!

I 'm making great progress finalizing the layout and content of Operation Nemesis, which looks great with a lot more artwork and setting, plus designer's notes etc.  We're looking good for the end of October, with the main obstacle to overcome being me getting all the necessary minis painted in time.

However...

Precinct Omega Weekly Miniatures News #18 - AK Interactive & Condemnation

CONTENT WARNING - This is one of those episodes that needs a content warning.  There is reference to war crimes, genocide and other nastiness.  And a little strong language.

I was all set up for a nice episode about miniatures manufacturing and how I was expecting to see things shift over the next few years.  And then AK Interactive and their book, 2020-09-04 09:55:42 +0000 UTC View Post

Zoom!

Hi, folks.

I recently decided to buy a Zoom licence.  This was, I'll be honest, mostly to enable some professional meetings and my karate teaching.  But I thought it'd be fun to set up a regular Zoom call for hobby time.

I realize (and am very grateful that) my patrons are an international bunch, so I figured a Saturday would be good.  I'll need to have a word with my Best Beloved, but looking at the time zone options, early evening (UK time) looks like the best win...

Irresistable...

As I upgrade and re-organize my studio, I am sorely tempted to reward myself, once it's done, with one of these.

The only annoying part is that the Omega range is only designed for people up to 180cm tall and I am, like, 3cm taller than that.  And the logo on the larger, Titan, range (sheesh, people, I'm not even 6ft) isn't anything like as cool (or appropriate).

Might just get it anyway.  Would definitely look the business in videos! :D

Skrapyard: Devil's Reach

This came up on my dash, the other day, when Defence Mech Stefan posted a pic of his original print copy of Skrapyard and a bit of chat followed as to what, exactly, it was.

For you guys who've not heard of it, Skrapyard was the painful learning experience of my first self-published tabletop miniatures wargame.  It is the evidence that a good idea isn't enough and that success in a market relies on more than just a decent product.

I learned a huge amount fro...

Precinct Omega Weekly Miniatures News #16 - Is Wargaming for Everyone?

When this article popped up last week, it predictably set the twittersphere alight.

Having asked for thoughts on my Facebook page, I thought I'd take some of those and address the different aspects of the story that people have settled upon and, of course, give you the questionable benefit of my own opinion.

Discount Codes - Early Bird Access

Fancy some discounts over the weekend?

Get 15% off all Ballmonsters with the code GETBALLS!

I need to have these guys all re-cast from brand new masters, and that's going to set me back a fair whack.  Given the that game is a long way from ready, then, I need to raise some money to cover that work, so I'm selling off the remaining stock at a discount for as long as it lasts.

Zero Dark: Operation Nemesis (BETA version)

To be honest, even the term "beta" is probably giving the attached too much credit.  This is the absolutely rough, hot-from-the-exhausted-brain-of-the-author version of Operation Nemesis.

But have at it.  There's a story to read.  There are new rules to mull over (although most have already seen the light of day here).  There are, of course, missions to try out!

There's also a bunch of PvP stuff that I've struggled to playtest in lockdown, s...

Tidying

Today is tidying day. One of the down sides of my recent contact had been that my studio has become the family dumping ground, plus - of course - I've just been dumping gaming-related stuff in here before getting back to "work".

I was going to do a video of the process, but it turns out that the first thing I tidied (my GoPro) is totally out of charge. So here are some pics from the starting point to give you an idea of what I'm working with!!
