“Changed? What do you mean?” responded Elise quickly.
“It’s not {Rune of Fate} anymore! It’s Divine Restoration, and then in parentheses, (Rune of Fate)! And it doesn’t have any of that weird glitched text anymore!”
Elise took a moment to process her words. She had been expecting Jessie to finalize her own {Rune of Fate} sometime soon, so this hadn’t come out of nowhere. It really threw a wrench into her boring day, and she needed a few seconds to...

Patreon did this silly thing a while ago and made it super easy to accidentally make chapters free instead of paid, which is why you probably got two notifications about this chapter. The worst part is that I made some significant edits on Patreon to the accidentally free version, and forgot what half of them were after I panic-deleted the post, so this version may have a few extra errors. I tried to find them all again, but I'm sure I missed one o...

Of the two people behind me, one of them is a beastperson like me. This one is a man, but he’s got cat ears and a tail. His fur and hair is black like mine, but his eyes are yellow, and he seems just as surprised to see me as I am to see him.
However, he is not the source of the intense gaze. That would be the person beside him, a woman with a face so forgettable I don’t even know how to describe it. Plain brown hair, plain brown eyes, ordinary features, and gray robes that lo...

After 800 years of travels and countless forms of mischief, Oberon and Titania finally returned to where it all began. The place of their birth. The mysterious valley where winter couldn’t quite reach.
The valley hadn’t changed much since they left. It was still just as green as ever, and though the animals and some of the plants had changed, the overall atmosphere was untouched. Almost.
The mountains nearby were inhospitable, and nearly uncrossable for most, but somehow, a gr...

“Titania and I were a part of the same spawn wave, though we were not the same species. You may be interested to learn that while she spawned as a fey, I did not. I was a mindless squirrel. True story. I supposed you could say that you and I have some kinship in our origins.
“Due to my species, I don’t remember much of my own early years, but I do have a few distinct memories. She befriended me, and the two of us worked hard to survive together. Back then, she was no taller than a...

I end up going to bed close to sunrise, and when I wake up in the early afternoon, I return to the twins’ house. They’re both busy working on individual projects when I arrive, so I have to entertain myself for a few minutes until they reach a stopping point. After expressing my concerns about Cecilia getting so caught up in her artificery that she forgets about the Guild Investigator, they promise to call her again that night and double check that she remembers. They also offer to let me...

In case you missed the update to the previous chapter, I changed the last couple paragraphs. It's a very simple change that basically postpones the original ending where she gets to class and Jessie tells her about her Rune of Fate so that I can have Elise visiting Oberon here. I entirely forgot that I was going to do this scene with Oberon, and I need to thank Kaladin for reminding me, because I would have been kicking myself, as this scene ab...

“The Delicacies are actually a little bit more than just tourist destinations,” explained Cecilia. “That’s what they mainly are, but they’re also a teaching tool. In the past there were many chefs and connoisseurs that went and tasted them all to expand their horizons and get experience. They were originally discovered and defined by one legendary adventurer-chef a few centuries ago. He actually marked a total of twenty or so, but over the years, other experienced chefs and gastrono...

The looks on the twins’ faces are a little unnerving. The smiles themselves are actually pretty nice, but the fact that the only other time I’ve seen them smile was when they were blowing stuff up makes me mildly concerned. Still, I’m not gonna turn down a free tour of what’s clearly a super secret basement vault thingy.
“Sure!” I say.
“Just give us one minute,” says A.
“The second basement technically doesn’t exist, and while it seems it’s impossible t...

In case any of you skipped that chapter that I inserted (currently numbered as chapter 64), I encourage you to go back and read it, because it is relevant to today's chapter. The specific section that is relevant is the twins' PoV.
If you don't want to do that, here's your missing context:
Sophie’s question demolished Elise’s plans for the night, but she didn’t mind too much. Taking Sophie down into the Dungeon was no trouble at all, and in fact, she thought it was a very good idea. In the Bronze areas, Elise could easily protect her from any threat, and getting Sophie some practical experience in combat was important. Especially given Titania’s warning. She wanted Sophie to at least be able to defend herself when whatever calamity was coming arrived.

Twenty one gods were gathered in the God of Games’ banquet hall in the divine realm. The one at the head of the table was the God of Games himself, while the other twenty were the participants in the sixth round of the game he had been fiddling with for millennia. The attention of all the gods present was drawn to a single screen at the far end of the table opposite the God of Games where a tense scene played out.
Standing on a hill was a behemoth of the eldritch persuasion, a vaguely...

“Fortunately, I do have a damn good explanation,” I say, picking the head up with a mana hand. “Behold! The assassin! Annie, say hi.”
“Hi,” says Annie, sounding despondent.

Unlike the first meeting in the empty classroom, this meeting took place on one of the University’s many training fields. There was no buffet this time, but there were snacks—fruits and pastries, mostly—and when Elise and Sophie arrived, most of the students were helping themselves.
Shawn greeted them, as he had the first time, and went into a brief explanation of how regular club meetings worked. Since it was a club and not a class, it was fairly unstructured, and the regular mee...

“First…” I start, staring down at her bloody neck. “How are you talking?”
“Seriously?”
“Well, you’re not attached to your lungs right now, so you shouldn’t be able to make noise.”
“My body is dead, so I shouldn’t be alive at all. Maybe it has something to do with that.”

I try to throw a Fireball at Annie’s body, but for some reason, my mana won’t work. I can still sense it, but it’s all messed up, and won’t move the way I want it to. The source seems to be the wound in my back. There’s a weird mana mixed in with my body that’s interfering with everything else.
My whole body hurts as well, so all I can do is stand there as Annie picks up her head and puts it back on, followed by her leg. As soon as the severed head gets within a few centimet...

Elise followed Cassian’s instructions, reaching the large cavern in just under ten minutes. She sensed it before she saw it though. Just as he described, it was absolutely teeming with monsters, and even just the close section that she could sense from the tunnel held dozens. All of them had absolutely pitiful amounts of aether, indicating that they were low level, but she also sensed some vaguely stronger monsters a bit further in.
She paused just a little outside the cavern, h...

At the sound of my name, everyone inside who hadn’t already seen me looks over. A few of them start whispering about me. Most of it is good, flattering things, but some of the stuff is less so, and other stuff is straight-up rude. And gross.

Nothing happened.
“Kill yourself,” she then said.
Nothing happened again. She breathed a sigh of relief.
She had read that {Command} and its derivative Skills could not be used to directly harm the target, but she had also half-expected {Rune of Fate} or the absurd aether difference to brute force their way past that restriction. The fact that it still existed was good.
And disappointing.
She grimaced at that thought, but then thought back to M...

I lean my head into Annie’s hand as she scratches behind my ears. She’s actually very good at this. She seems to know all the right spots to scratch. If only her breath smelled better.
I mean, I know I’m in a medieval world without modern amenities, but her breath is awful. I usually tune out the smell of peoples’ breath because it’s not pleasant, but when her face is a foot away from mine and she’s breathing into my face, it’s hard to ignore.
But even given th...

Sucri’s evaluation of Elise’s skills went by surprisingly quickly. Elise thought it would have taken longer than it did, but apparently it was mostly a test of mindset, rather than ability. The upper floors of the Dungeon never had any monsters higher than Tier 3, so even if Elise was weak, she would have been fine if she kept a cool head, and apparently, Sucri saw enough to think that Elise would be fine.
Actually, it seemed that despite not being all that close, she had been watch...
