When they reached the fountain, Sophie was surprised to see that Jessie had returned to her male disguise. Elise was not. Even in her male form, which seemed designed to be as plain and unremarkable as possible, she was already drawing more attention than Elise due to the raw, uncontrolled aether she constantly emitted. Walking around as a beautiful woman in a white dress must have been awful.
Elise noticed Jesse before they even saw her, due to her aether, but Jessie noticed as s...

In the brief moment that the four humans are too stunned to speak, a certain annoying digital fiend takes the opportunity to criticize me.
“I think that there were probably more tactful ways to reveal that.”
Shut up. I know what I’m doing.
Before Abby can respond, both Lauren and the twins speak at once.
“You have Gluttony?!” says Lauren.
“You’re a monster?!” say the twins.
Chad looks completely frozen, like his mind has bee...

Unlike Sir Bartholemew, Dame Lindsay was a much more laid-back person. At least, when Professor Lance wasn’t directly observing her she was. While he was with the other two knights, she was leaning to one side and talking in an extremely casual tone, but the moment Lance arrived, she was stiff as a board and speaking formally.
Like the defensive test, the offense test was very simple and quick. With so many students and so little time, it had to be. They were already cutting it close ...

Catching the twins’ amusement, Lauren follows their gaze to my chest as well, and almost immediately snorts with laughter. I frown and fold my arms. I knew it. That bitch of a goddess wouldn’t have given me something so good without a drawback like this.
“What does it say?” I ask.
“You don’t know?” asks Lauren.
“Obviously not, or I wouldn’t be asking.”
“I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to—” starts Lauren.
“It says ‘I am a bitch,...

Surprise! Bonus chapter! It's a long one too.
You may notice that this is numbered 64, and not 67. That's because I am inserting it at chapter 64. I have renumbered the former chapters 64-66 to 65-67. Otherwise, there was no change to the content. Everything is just as you've already read. The order doesn't really matter, and you're not really missing a whole lot by reading this now instead of at chapter 64 where it was originally, b...

Heheh, they’re all trembling. This is funny.
“Yeah, whatever,” I say. “You need something, or are you just here to say hi?”
“I– I just–” she stutters. “I wanted to know your name.”
“Don’t–”
“You can call me Princess Yona.”
“Dammit.”

“Jessie!” said Elise.
“Who are—?” started Samantha. “Wait, Jessie?!”
“Yup!” said Jessie. “My full name is—”
“Jessica Lux!” interrupted Samantha excitedly. “The Saintess of the church of Light.”
“Y– Yeah,” said Jessie.
“The Saintess?” said Helene, putting a hand to her chin. “You were in disguise before?”
“Yeah,” said Jessie. “A bloody suffocating one too.”
“How did you get permission to drop it?...

The boar doesn’t seem to notice me. It doesn’t seem to notice much of anything, really. It just trudges around mindlessly. Of course, it doesn’t need to do much else to cause destruction, since every footstep leaves a hoof-shaped crater behind and it’s already killed at least twenty trees, but its odd passiveness gives me some time to think about how best to go about killing it.
Clearly, it’s a Disaster. Abby said as much, and even if she hadn’t told me that, it would be obv...

Aside from those few moments of excitement, the rest of the class was actually quite peaceful and uneventful. It was just an endless cycle of trying to float and then meditating to replenish mana. The only reason that they got more than one attempt was that the mana in the room was oddly dense and strangely eager to enter their mana cores. Elise was able to make quite a few attempts before the class ended, though her record ended up being only three seconds, since balance while levitating sti...

Just like Lauren said, the boar Dungeon is very easy to find. It’s not even a kilometer outside the city walls to the north, and there are a bunch of Adventurers going too and from it. Unlike the lizard Dungeon, this one is not set in the side of a hill. Instead, the entrance is an enormous hollow tree. It’s a least five meters across, and there’s a door-sized entry in the front through which you can see about half of the interior. The other half of the interior is blocked by a wall of ...

“I have literally never said that I knew everything, and I have the chat logs to prove it.”

Unlike the Basic Unattributed Spells class, which had hundreds of students, the Intermediate version only had about fifty. As Elise understood it, the basic one was a prerequisite for a lot of other classes, so a lot of people took it, even if they weren’t interested, while the intermediate and advanced classes were only for people who actually wanted to dive deeper into unattributed magic. There were still plenty of those kinds of people, but with so many different time slots, they were ab...

Rereleasing with bonus content at the end because it became clear that the ending wasn't sparking the kind of realizations I was hoping. As the giant counted down until the final round of the silly game, Telvir’s mind was wandering. So far, the club meeting had been exactly what he expected, and what he expected was boredom. It was a necessary use of his time, since interacting with the most powerful nature mages of his generation would improve his Class offerings, but that didn’t make it any less boring.
He had nothing against any of the people there. It was just that playing games with children wasn’t what he wou...

We both immediately turn and start running back the way we came. Fortunately, the streets are mostly empty, so we can make full use of our stat-buffed speed and we make it back to Lauren’s house in only a couple minutes. When we arrive, we find that there are a pair of men in uniforms that I think are police uniforms standing outside the front door, which is in pieces.
“What happened?” asks Lauren, rushing forward.
“Are you Ms. Haddock?” asks one of the officers.

The entire city, as its name would suggest, is set on a river fork. The river runs in from the east, splits right in the center of the city, and exits through two big brick archways and the two branches continue onward toward the ocean. Most of the commercial stuff is right along the riverside, with the fork in the center being the hub for business. Lauren’s house is just a bit south of the southernmost offshoot, so I Blink a few times to get to the water, then walk on the street that runs ...

After talking with my audio publisher, it looks like the previous chapter was indeed the end of book 1, making this the start of book 2. It doesn't really matter for you guys, since you're serial readers, but whenever the audiobook does come out, the previous chapter is where it will end.
That's not set in stone, so it technically could still change, but for now, we're just gonna roll with it. Thanks for reading!

After a couple comments on the last chapter, I wanted to clarify something about Daryl that I think I failed to get across. He is not being abused or anything by the club members. Sara kicking him does hurt, but not very much, and he doesn't mind. I edited the previous chapter to hopefully make it more clear.
I modeled his relationship with the club members after the relationships between me and my siblings. We are all close and have...

Pike wasn’t sure what he expected when the Adventurers returned. In the wake of all the Named monsters appearing and knowing that they had lost contact with an entire town, he feared the worst. While he maintained an impartial and stern facade externally, inside, he was deeply concerned about the Adventurers working under him, and hated when any of them failed to return. When news reached the Guild that not only had the problem been taken care of, but that it had been taken care of with no ...

The club room was one of the smaller lecture halls in the central area of the University. Most of the chairs had been cleared out somehow though. Elise wasn’t sure how, since she was pretty sure they were all bolted to the floor, but there was no sign of them, or the bolts that were supposed to hold them down. There was still an assortment of them lined up near the front of the room by the stage, but the rest of it had been converted into a kind of ballroom.

All the healing potions that Lauren, Chad, and the twins were carrying with them go toward helping the survivors. Because of that, there’s not a whole lot of work to do. The healing potions go a long way to get the remains of the town up and running again. They can’t regrow lost muscle mass, so a lot of the people are still weak, but because of the System, they’re all stronger than ordinary Earth humans, so even if they’re all in bad shape, they’re still able to move around and func...

Elise barely remembered returning to her room. She was half in a daze after Rayna’s words, going in mental circles trying to figure out exactly what they meant. If the bargain worked how it should have, then everything Rayna said would have to be true, but if Oberon had taught her anything, it was to be careful of wording, and “responsible for” was just not very clear. Were their deaths intentional on his part, or did he make a mistake?
Either way, it wasn’t a good sign. H...

Joshua didn’t expect that the agent of chaos would have come back with so much firepower. He was under the impression that she had hit him with everything she had the first time. Because of that, he hadn’t taken her seriously. Or at least, not as seriously as he should have.

A and B have a few dozen of their own mana potions, but by the time I’m fully ready, not a single one is left. Between replenishing my mana, her mana, and me making constructs so I can ensure I have enough mana later, we were only able to store eight of her bombs.
That should be enough. From what I saw, I’d honestly be surprised if Joshua survived a direct h...

The first time Joshua remembered having a distaste for meat was 5th grade. His class went on a field trip to a local ranch where they learned about the process of raising cattle. He learned later in life that this was a somewhat unusual field trip, but in his little town of only a few thousand, it felt normal.
He and the other kids got to meet some of the cows, petting them through the fence, and later, they even got to play with the calves. They reminded him of dogs, almost. Friendly, ...
