Series creator and director Hideaki Anno originally proposed her as the main protagonist of the series... Character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto asked Anno to include a male main character instead, downgrading her to the role of co-protagonist with Shinji Ikari.

Yumi started as a drawing of a 18 year old asian schoolgirl.
She is quite tall at 176 cm. In her class she was an outsider every since she joined the class a year later after transfereing from another district. Rumors had it she is a dropout or runaway.
To earn cash she works as companion for older men wich didn t help her reputation at school.
While the boys did enjoy the sight she didn t had much contact with most of the girls for whom she is more or less an outcast....

It was partially colored and I had not decided her the colors so I found yellow and blue. Since I have not many artworks showing blue and yellow I decided to clean it up a bit and post it.
The Idea was that Kaori came back to school after an accident and now is the center of attention with everyone signing her casts.
