Turn Zero: Character Select
Dust rose around him, stirred up in the chaotic melee of desperate men and frightened horses. He lay there for a moment, dazed and in shock. Head ringing from its harsh and impromptu meeting with the ground. Alas, he could not continue to lie there, not if he wanted to live at least. Scrambling to his left, Bunpagna narrowly avoided a hasty stab from an opportunist.
There!
Finding his weapon, he snatched it up and s...

The giant sword shot through the skies, parting wind and cloud more than a thousand metres in the air. A small party stood on it; twenty-eight students and three elders. Dunstan stood closer to the front, just a couple of metres behind Elder Anthony, the owner and pilot of the flying sword they rode. This was to be a excursion into the Suanni Desolate Fields, a trial by fire for the elite disciples of their sect. He stared curiously at the landscape beneath them as they flew by. Even his ...

Chapter Four: Dungeon Maker
Reduced to squatting in an abandoned cave, a certain young man busied himself dressing his wounds.
“Twenty-three years!” Dunstan cursed in exasperation as he rebandaged his arm. “Twenty-three fucking years I’ve been waiting for this stupid to load and it nearly gets me killed when it does!”
While his anger was more than justified, his words were a little untrue. His new power had only appeared after he became an exult...

Chapter Three: Foetooth
Not yet recovered from his last battle, Dunstan's reaction was too slow. He barely managed to put his left arm in the way of the attack. The leopard bit into it, her fangs going clean through flesh and bone. Dunstan could not help but scream. Still, he acted quickly, not wanting her to toss her head about and rip his own arm off, he attacked quickly. Bright light burst to life in his palm and he slammed them into the leopard'...

Chapter Two: Restoration
[Synchronising… 75%]
The young man clutched his left breast, feeling the bite of the steel all over again. He was finally cognisant of his surroundings. Even better, he had regained his self-awareness. His name was Dunstan Akaguri. He came to this place, a stretch of wilderness overrun with daemons to source the material for an ascension pill. What was the name of this place again…?

Corpses were not rare in the Suanni Desolate Fields. It was one of the most dangerous stretches of wilderness on the titanic Continent of Azan. Populated by daemons and filled with treasures, countless people had died within its borders and countless more would continue to do so. The bloody body lying in the open field was not even the only corpse within that acre. A series of blast marks, like pockmarks in the face of the earth. Long gashes on the ground a...

At long last I have contracted an artist to do some character art for us. Patrons get it first of course, plus exclusives. But first, I need some input on which characters you want to see first. Some categories are general so be sure to specify in the comments, we're on a limited budget. We can always do more later.

Chapter Four: A Dungeon's Joy
Brandr watched as another party of adventurers left after reaching the second floor.
He grinned. 'They are learning.'
This particular group of adventurers made it past his gu wasps without losing a single man. It was not because they were more powerful or skilled than the ones who came before them. They were simply better prepared. They huddled together in a strong defensive position, employed targetted if excessive use of fir...

Chapter Three: Dungeon Delvers
Gauwyn stared out at the gathered tents, thinking to himself, 'Things are going to get hectic quick.'
Ugmar, the old guild master in Arnham had mustered nearly a hundred adventurers and sent them up to the dungeon. The man was determined not to miss out on the dungeon's bounty. Gauwyn could guess that his own involvement must have prompted the action. Arnham's guildmaster had surely realised by now that the dungeon would never be left un...

Chapter Two: Dungeon Report
Tapping the crystal ball, he pushed it to the centre of the table so it could display its recording for all to see. The video was projected into the air above the table. It showed the warden walking up to the dungeon's entrance. Rewalt heard several people draw breath when the ten-metre tall marble entrance with its flanking sculptures was revealed. Because the recording crystal was levitating behind the warden's shoulder, they saw not just the s...

As Brandr continued to strategise and take stock, the adventurers left, and a new wave of evolution began to take place in the dungeon. It had now been a few months since Brandr opened his dungeon. All this time, the creatures that had come to live it in had been indulging in its resources and baski...

Chapter Fifty-nine: The Best Kind of Victory
Gauwyn bit his lip, ignoring the insult. He did not need goading to attack. In fact, he was already planning his assault.
There were an untold number of hobgoblins in the fort, but Gauwyn was confident he could eliminate them and their commander without issue if he went at it right. Every hobgoblin he had seen thus far was either a rank two or three. In most practical scenarios, they could be written ...

Chapter Thirty-six: Before you sign...
All five prospective disciples were gathered inside Lady Bloodworth's hall. The lady herself was nowhere to be found. That left the butler to watch the troublesome youths. It was assignment he feared would become routine all too soon. Outwardly he was prim and proper, but in his heart of hearts, he shook his head and sighed ruefully. His mistress loved to stir up trouble, but these new apprentices of hers were probably her betters in m...

They watched the maroon cloaked tellurian trip up. A thick offshoot of the creeping taxer slammed into him, knocking him off his feet. That was enough...

“That’s very brave of you!” Sweetrot noted. “Very confident! It wouldn’t happen to be because of the poison on that sickle, would it?”
Amerrak gave a start causing Sweetrot’s smug smile to widen.
“Did you honestly think I would not notice?” he asked. “I’ll give you this, it’s pretty potent. Not the first time I’ve had lung seizing venom, though. I’m just little curious as to how someone like you...

Chapter Fifty-eight: The Enemy Base
The reinforcements Gauwyn warned of never came. Rather, the sentinels scurried off into the depths of the tunnels, the moment it became clear that they would never get another a shot in. Geoffrey and Sirai wanted to give chase but the warden held them back.
“They know this place better than we do”, he reminded them. “Only The Grim knows what sort of ambush or trap they have waiting in those tunnels.”

Okay… I have some big announcements.
Today was a big lesson. Everything went to shit a lot more than usual and I was caught flat footed. I was tired, stressed out and completely unprepared to deal with it.
I’m a planner. Not a “Hey, let’s try this…” kind of guy but a planner planner. I’m the kind who doesn’t find it weird when a villain and his doomsday/ world conquering scheme fall to pieces just because ...

EDIT: I rewrote the chapter. Some timely input has made me realise that I was was going at too fast a pace and neglecting to take the time to show how the characters reacted and responded to the things they discovered in Brandr's dungeon. These new changes will reflect that. The rewrite has made the chapter double in size but I think its worth it.

Chapter Fifty-five: The Enigma of the Fourth Floor
“What the hell is this?” Sirai asked in confusion.
The fourth floor was nothing like the ones before it. For starters, it was not even a cavern. Polished tiles lined the walls and ceilings. Everywhere you turned, there was a statue or mural of some sort adorning the place. It did not even bother with the standard layout. Instead, it featured a single chamber with a massive central staircase that rose a...

The Second Floor was much more challenging the first in the same way that fighting a ten-year-old was more challenging to an adult than fighting a five-year-old. The Bloodsoaked Foxes continued to breeze through any challenge in their path with only the traps to slow down their advance.
“I think I am beginning to understand how this thing works”, Verrin revealed whiles their ranger tried to trigger a vacuum pit with a travel pack....

For Geoffrey and the members of the Blood-soaked Fox, the first floor of Brandr dungeon was easy. The weakest of their number was just as strong as Coenbert and their strongest, well the Warden had asked them not to consider him a member of the party. He was there to observe, nothing more. That was why he did not partake in the fighting. It was okay. He did not share in the loot as well. Still, a point was to be made. They were an adept ranked ...
