ATLAS ELYDEN #8 - the Free Lands of Vârr

Vârr is an unfortunate place, haunted by the echoes of a past tainted by the actions of a mad god. Vorropohaiah, he was once known as, though his name is now whispered only amongst the most learned of scholars. He was one of the Two-and-Twenty worker gods – the Demiurges. They were abandoned by their creator as punishment for their hubris in creating the mortal races. Vorropohaiah went mad following his divine emancipation and spent his days shaping the features o...

the Idol of Baphomet

This is the first of hopefully many short stories/flash fiction that will be loosely linked around a mystical artifact known only as the Idol of Baphomet,  which spans millennia and empires. The short stories will feature a partially recurring cast of characters that span different ages, whose experiences and discoveries culminate in a satisfying climax. Treat it as a small experiment in worldbuilding, to flesh out the world of Elyden, whilst giving me the opportunity...

Atlas Elyden #6 - Skaros

Skaros is a land with a long history, dating back to the dawn of the Fifth Age of mortal life, where the lascar people settled the eastern coast of the Gulf of Skaros. They prospered, spreading to the south and east before outside powers in the east stalled their growth. They would dwindle, their ancestors becoming the forebears of Laaskha and Bassorah, as well as Skaros.

By the coming of the Korachani empire, Skaros had become a powerful region w...

A Timeline of the Ancient Inner Sea

Elyden is a large world of many cultures and civilisations, some neighbours, and some divided by many thousands of miles. Though those around the Inner Sea share at least a modicum of history - shared ancestry, languages with common roots, linked histories - those on the other side of Elyden are barely known to them. Such distant lands - far Meniscea and the island-continent of Bror, as well as most of the continent of Sammaea - are a world unto themselves, and wholly alien to the civilised land...

Atlas Elyden #5 - the Republic of Almagest

Here's the fifth map in the Atlas Elyden. Work slowed down due to illness, some commission work and writing. I was hoping for 2 maps a month, though I don't think I'll be able to regularly keep up that pace. This one covers a much larger expanse of land than the other maps I've worked on so far and took a while longer to finish, largely due to the topography, and ...

The Atlas Elyden #4 - the City Kingdoms of the Haréshk

This is the forth map I finished in the series, and I'm including the full-res version for download for all my paying patrons. thanks for supporting me!

The City-kingdoms of the Haréshk are relics of a feudal system, still known for their heraldry and duchies. The region is on the cusp of industrialisation and looks to the West and the Korachani empire with envious eyes. factories are beginning to appear on a scale as yet unseen outside of Korachan, and trade with more advanced...

Part 5 - the Holy City of Mern

The city was large, and its limestone towers and blue domes glinted wonderfully in the afternoon sun. Though they were still some miles away, Chronicler could see nothing to suggest any unrest or attacks. Good, he thought.

There was something about an approach to a new settlement that always filled Chronicler with excitement. It was like a n...

Part  4 – the Eshed Plains, north of Ras

They stopped in the shade of a ruined aqueduct.

They had been following its toppled spine for miles, using the scattered boulders that once stood proudly together as guides north. As the ground dipped the aqueduct grew stronger, more imposing. It was of grey-pink stone, with...

Part 3 - Leaving Ras

Mahr got his wish. For the next few days, things were relatively quiet as Farad and his apprentices busied themselves with offloading the last of their wares. As they approached the end of their inventory they set their sights on replenishing their supplies.

There was a method to their buying and bartering, as anyone who had travelled with the...

Shibboleth: the Torrent, Eleventh of the Demiurges

Amongst the most esoteric of the ancient Demiurges, Shibboleth was once the patron of wanderers, travellers, portals and crossroads. Parts of these aspects remain, though have been absorbed by various cultures or might remain in some regions, embodied by saints or other religious figures. Shibboleth is remembered in some regions, particularly in the north of Sammaea where its Magnum Opus, the river Shibboleth, remains as one of the largest and culturally significant ri...

A Map of Venthir and Tzallrach

I finally finished the map I was working on.

EDIT: I noticed there were some fragments around some of the mountain text so removed it and added a n elevation key to the cartouche to give an idea of the heights. I also want to add spot heights to the peak icons (white triangles) to show how high that point is, though that can wait!

Any of my backers interested in a textless version of the map can drop me a message and I'll get you one sent out.

AGYNUR of NEKODA

I've always been interested in heraldry and have tried working it into my work on Elyden where I can. Readers might remember a recent map of the Haréshk, which includes many shields, representative of the varies fiefs of the region.

I had some time on my hands today and made a little Bio for a historical character. If this proves to be popular I might make this into a series. Hope you like t...

Part 2 – Ras

“They are really quite spectacular,” continued Chronicler.

He’d woken up in high spirits despite the restless night, thoughts of the heavens and stars and constellations heavy on his brow. He’d woken up early, in time to see the narrow bow that was the Ivory Moon rising just ahead of the eastern sky, still waking.

He sat mentally tr...
