But while I was finishing last chapter, my editor suggested leaving 9.5 to stand as pure fluff and doing a bonus interlude instead.
And when I considered it, I thought, hey, this might be a nice way of showing my appreciation to you guys, too, for sticking with it throughout the crisis, and I decided to do this bonus interlude.

Then, I finished it and wanted to have it out yesterday, but in trying to fix a problem with my PC (Windows Store app is broken, and is still broken) I couldn't do anything for about 8 hours.

This last week, we got the windows replaced. That meant cleaning out the areas the window people were gonna be working in, which meant moving all of the heavy furniture close enough to get in the way out of the way, and then moving it back when they were done. I underestimated how much that was going to be and how much it was going to take out of me, in terms of time and energy.

Like I predicted, about half the size of a normal chapter. That was just how it had to be, when it's all introspection and trying to be vague enough that it didn't give too much away about the future of the story.
So, which do you think draws people in better? The Prologue, or Chapter 1?

Not much I can say about this without getting into a lot of details and spoiling it.
Not that there's all that much to spoil, in some ways. Or rather... There's a lot of subtleties that I tried to weave into this chapter. Lots of hints and winks and nudges. No idea how many people will catch them.
No witty chapter title, either. In the end, I couldn't think one up.

I was also putting in work for, like, three other projects while I was supposed to be writing this, so that delayed me a little, too.
Eventually, however, I managed to get it done and finished, with an amazing line to finish off the chapter. I really do love how that line closes this chapter out.

There's a lot of fluff in this one. It really feels like a lot of filler, but it serves its purpose as the bridge between arc 8 and arc 9.
There isn't much else I can say without discussing the events of the chapter itself...
