Kept waffling on whether or not to drop this and when, because I do want to finish it, but finding both the time and the drive to power through has been difficult when I also have to walk the tightrope of how much and how little to reveal about this event's star character and her setting.

We're easing in on an approach to London now, but I wanted to put a little more time between the vacation and the team getting back to work. And now, to take the crown of longest chapter in the story at over 9600 words, here you go, have this monster of a chapter. Why is it so long? Because I was determined to fit everything I wanted to do with this chapter into it, even if that meant writing about 5000 words in a single day.

So naturally, a lot of stuff happened in this chapter, and a lot of it was fluffy, feel good stuff, but I don't do meaningless fluff, so have some important, meaningful moments in there, too. But also a...

I wanted it to all be one chapter...but I couldn't make that. So it's going to go on for 2, because there's some other stuff I wanted to do with this and I knew it would wind up blowing past 9k — at which point, hey, I'd be asking why I didn't split it sooner.

So next chapter will be the fun, shenanigans, and other stuff I couldn't fit into this one.

[Hereafter] Chapter CXXII: Parole Party

I didn't have a better title in mind, and all of the other ones I could think of might have eventually wound up better suited to a later chapter with different content and themes to work with, so I pitched this one and it worked well enough for my purposes.

I thought about letting you guys in on what the secret would be at the end of the chapter, but I think it works better as a cliffhanger this way. Builds a little suspense and tension so everyone can wonder for a little while.

[B-A] Background Ascendancy - Parts 1, 2, & 3

Still not sure whether this thing has a long term future or if it's just a plot bunny I'm exorcising. I've technically got two more chapters warming up (but not finished) and ideas for what to do with this thing up to the start of DBZ canon, but I don't know if this thing is a viable project long term either, so I haven't put too much thought into it beyond that.

[Hereafter] Chapter CXXI: No Worse for Wear

This one wound up being...a lot of summary of what Ritsuka went through inside of Chateau d'If. I was surprised and a little frustrated that so much time was spent on that, but I tried to make it more engaging, and I think that was what made it balloon a little bit past my expectations.

Well, the big event is passed, so maybe now that things aren't falling apart, the team can finally get a chance to relax before London. They should be so lucky, right?

I got so caught up in Da Vinci's theory that I actually forgot what the original structure was supposed to be for a minute.

It feels a lot like the last few chapters didn't do too much of anything — but then, the whole point was how this thing stretched on for Taylor because she felt helpless and useless, like she was just sitting around and waiting for Ritsuka to die in his sleep. If that's something the readers feel, too, then hey, it got conveyed properly, although it might be a bi...

[Hereafter] Chapter CXIX: Demons of Despair

A little late on this one, because things have been a little bit busy over the last few days. Only a little late, though.

As incredible as it is...this is already pushing the size of the pre-Okeanos intermission, and we're only about 1 week into it, in terms of time passed in-story. There's still a month or so to go, just in terms of the team having a break.

But this is the Prison Tower event, so technically, this is also a sort of main story segment. I guess it makes sense that t...

[Hereafter] Chapter CXVIII: Château d'If

Taylor: coming up with the right answers...to the wrong questions.

A large part of this chapter wound up being that dream sequence at the beginning. But it was too good a scene to excise, and it worked well for what I needed to do. I wanted to address it more in this chapter, but the ending as it is now was just way too good to push out and tack on the next scene.

I hope that dream sequence hit home. It certainly did for Taylor.

In other words, the two things Taylor isn't particularly good at, and it shows.

Honestly, I don't know why Da Vinci doesn't get involved more often in canon until EoR. Like, sure, she's busy trying to keep the whole place functioning, but there are some parts where it she really should have been consulted. Like the canon Prison Tower event, where it seems like Romani handled everything and couldn't do more than throw up his hands.

But yes. Even Da Vinci can't be perfect and always...

They both have very good points and very good reasons for believing what they do, and neither of them is necessarily wholly right or wrong. They're flawed people making flawed decisions with the limited information they have.

This one felt a little bit short, and it is a little bit shorter than chapters have been recently, but tacking anything else on would've felt... Well, tacked on. So I slapped a pithy ending l...

But once I started writing for it in earnest, I couldn't stop. The only reason this isn't getting a full release right now instead of a CIP is because I want to do some more editing first.

Yeah. Ritsuka might wind up having to do this thing by himself. With only Jalter there to help him, because he can't summon Shadow Servants, so he needed to have some assistance.

Honestly flip-flopped a little on where that'll go. Given what's shown on-screen about that curse? Sending Taylor in to help might make things even worse.
