Still need to animate smoke emitting from the cigar as well as having the cigar lighting up first, then I can get on with making the background and this thing should be finished this weekend.

This is a larger image which will be pulled in closer and slowly zoomed out in post. Madnar will place the cigar in his mouth then salute before blowing a puff of smoke. I'm too lazy to draw in the background so I'll get to that last. Back to work.

Haven't had a chance to work on the project this week what with job meetings and my birthday. I'm still undecided if whether or not to have this shot end here and move onto Madnar looking up and saluting with the camera pulling up or finish animating Big Boss climbing into Metal Gear. Hmmm. Yeah still not sure. I kind of want to get this shot over and done with but, I feel like it needs more work. Still have to fix some of the lighting changes and geometry of the legs as Metal Gear stands up....

Still need to animate Big Boss saluting Madnar, as well as adding a cigar to Madnar's mouth as he'll salute back to Big Boss in the next shot. For now it's just salute, entering the cockpit and drawing in the background. Back to work.

I've finally drawn up Metal Gear, now to animate the door opening before it stands up. I've realized in a previous shot I forgot to add the upper leg (side view shot) so I'll need to go back and add that in for consistency sake. Back to work.

Not much to add other than, I'm still drawing it. I'll admit I'm improvising the inside of the cockpit canopy, I think I've pretty much figured it out. Still need to draw the nuke module and the legs and then we can get to animating. Onward.

Here's a general thumbnail sketch, I'll detail out everything else when I bring it to screen but you sort of get the idea. Metal Gear will begin raising it's body with Big Boss hanging on the side and get onboard before it reaches its apex. Let's go.

Very, very quick shot, looks like its slamming over and over again. I've added the background image showing how much of the interior was drawn, you can see where the seating is. The carry over of the door opening will complete its movement in the next shot which will be much wider and longer. Once the door has opened Metal Gear will begin to stand up with Big Boss hanging on its side, finishing with him climbing into the cockpit. Time to storyboard.draw some thumbnails

I've drawn the background, with the cockpit door on its own layer, however before I animate that I'll animate Big Boss first who will be in the bottom right corner turning toward the door as it begins to open. Not much else to say here other than, keep on keeping on.

Here's two small thumbnail sketches I did it my work book (With a little Big Boss to boot). I'm think of going with the first one as it's a side view and we'll get a better look at some of the mechanisms that will help lift the cockpit open. Anywho, time to draw.

I know I said I was going to raise Big Boss' arm at the end but I thought I'd just do that with the next shot where I'll have him punch his robo fist into the ejection switch. This one is quick but should work better in the edit rather than on its own. Anywho, enough from me, onto the next one, ought to have a thumbnail ready tomorrow.

Still having a bit of trouble with this, foreshortening being something I still have to figure out. For the most part I have it down, still need Big Boss to raise his left arm at the end there, then I'll go back and adjust things such as the proportions and making sure the leg brace straps don't move around too much followed by drawing in the background and it should be done in a couple of days.

What. An. Ayuss. Now to figure out how to animate this thing. Essentially I'll animate everything in reverse which I sometimes tend to do, basically leaning off of Metal Gear's weight stabilizer then lowering his body toward the camera, maybe raising his left arm at the end of the shot so as to ready the next shot where he'll hit the cockpit guard open... er. Whatever you call it. Let's go.

We all know there's a Metal Gear movie in development right now. The director has posted a photo of the script along with the original MSX Metal Gear on Twitter. This has me thinking they might be adapting the first game.
I'm wondering if there's any point of continuing the animation. Now I know those words are going to scare away pledges (to be honest, everytime I charge my patrons they run off, anyway) but I don't have any intention to stop, however there is this demoralized fee...

Got the boot landing down, now to have Big Boss push himself upward. I'll draw and animate his left arm moving past the camera once I've done this then get around to the background.

A simple closeup shot of Big Boss's leg showcasing his leg braces, based on Mad Max 2 specifically. He's no longer a warrior like he was a decade ago, however he's nimble enough to climb into the cockpit which is what this shot will transition to. Anyway better get back to drawing.

Animated the technicians giving their salutes to Big Boss, who I now need to animate entering the screen from the bottom left and approaching Metal Gear. I'll get around to drawing the background last as I want to get the meat of the process out of the way first.

This is a rough sketch of Metal Gear from the side. Some of the proportions aren't to my liking; I'll need to make the legs a bit smaller and the body a little larger. the person standing is just for scale reference. Big Boss will walk up the steps onto the platform and approach the ladder next to the cockpit. Better get drawing.

Lo-and-behold, I finally finished this shit. Added a shine on Boss' diamond when he turns and the numbers on the warhead container is my date of birth, because I'm about to go nuclear with the heat we have down here. Next shot will be with Big Boss from behind approaching Metal Gear as it finishes lowering itself, I'll sketch up a thumbnail tonight to sort out its composition. Onward.

Yep, it's taken over I think a month, sorry about the wait. I haven't really worked on this for the past two weeks due to my job, and the next two weeks aren't going to get better what with teacher meetings and stuff, par for the course this time of the year I'm afraid. Good news is all I have to do for this shot is draw the background and we can move on. Stick with me people, I'm not dead yet.
