Snake Captured Continued 2

Went back and redrew Snake's pose, wasn't sure just how much movement he should have as he's been caught in the act I felt he shouldn't move too much. Originally I was going to have him slowly stand with is hands up but I figured it'd be a little more humorous to have him squatting throughout the rest of the shot.

Now to create the background. The penguin from two shots ago will return, scurrying away off screen out of fright.

Box Lifting

Now to animate Snake reacting to be being found, may add an extra frame to the thrown box at the end. Onto it.

Snake Captured Continued

Drawn the characters in, now to animate them. Onto it.

Snake Captured

Rough placement for the next shot, the box has been lifted off and the shot will cut once it's been tossed offscreen. Soldier to the left is the one Snake knocked out earlier and this scene will end with a close up on his bloodied, bruised face.

Snake in a Box Complete

Took a little longer than needed, the cut ends on the transition to the next shot where the box will be discarded and he'll be held at gunpoint.

Snake in a Box Wip 2

Haven't had much time to work on this over the past week but fortunately I have a 4 day weekend coming up so hopefully this will be complete by then. Sorry for the lack in updates.

Snake in a Box WIP

Had trouble trying to come up with a composition I was satisfied with. Basically Snake will sit confused and puzzled, then as he reaches for his headset *poof* the box is pulled off by the same enemy soldier he knocked out earlier.

Dead End Complete

Now to move on to the inside of the box where Snake will look confused, followed by... finally, being captured.

Penguin Adventure

I'll be adding a cameo from one of Kojima's earlier games of which he was a level designer for - Penguin Adventure for the MSX. The shot should be finished tonight, hopefully. He'll be taking a nap before being awoken by Snake and his sneaky box.

Dead End background Work in Progress

Still need to finish the floor, struggled to come up with pipes and wires and stuff for the left side of the screen as it's where the shot will end up, didn't want it to be too visually interesting otherwise the audience may think that Snake's coming to a stop to interact with something if that makes any sense. Probably not. Anywho, back to work.

Cardboard Box Insert Shot Complete

Insert for the previous shot, now to get to the end of this sequence where Snake meets a dead end where he'll be caught and thrown into a cell.

Snake, Box and Tanks Complete

Now to create an insert shot before this shot to give a sense of geography before Snake's capture.

Tank background before capture

As you can see they're the tanks to the right on the bottom image, the scanned drawing up top has a slight different perspective which didn't work when creating it on screen. When this shot is done I might do an insert shot right before this just to make Snakes journey up to this point not feel too immediate.

Box Stop Complete

Now to animate Snake reaching a dead end right before he's found. Let's go.

Box Stop Update

Thinking I'll animate the box first as it's a little more complicated wheras the camera will simply slide. Onto it.

View Post

Box Stop

Finished drawing the camera and have laid out the blocking for everything else. Simple shot, Snake will stop and drop to the floor just as the camera halts where it will linger for a few seconds then begin sliding to the right offscreen. Snake will then get back on his feet and continue left.

Snake Box Complete

Like the previous shots, this took longer than it should, but it's done nonetheless. The next shot will be from another angle as a security camera stops to take notice of the box. Oh, and if you have a Danish friend, get them to translate what's written on the box if they can make it out.

Crates and Tanks

Small vertical pan for this shot as there will be cameras sliding on the top of the left and right walls. Snake will come in from the right, get behind the crates then quickly pop out from the left side under a cardboard box moving toward the center of the screen. Let's go.

Soldier Body Drop Complete

Sorry this took so long, been busy renovating our bathroom plus work has had me pretty busy so this shot took a crawl to get done. Onto the next shot, where Snake will once again be sneaking with the cardboard box.

Body Drop WIP

Had trouble trying to come up with how the soldier would hit the floor, decided to combine it with the previous shot for context. I've also attached the original thumbnail, basically the idea is that after Snake has left off screen another guard will emerge center shot where he'll find his knocked out comrade, thus foreshadowing Snakes capture.

Headsmack

Short one. Only 4 frames. I've added an attachment of the original drawings of the soldier, the last image I ended up cutting as I felt like it made the shot run a little too long and less immediate.

Tank Booty

Back of a tank which the soldier who was smacked by Snake will bang his head on so that in the following shot his body will drop to its knees and flop forward. It'll... make sense, maybe.

Old Thumbnail sketches

Found these in my notebook from work. Scribbles on the first page are for the moment where Snake procures his handgun, second and third pages were for an unused scene where Snake was to procure a gasmask with a sleep guard nearby (the baby carriage and whatever that bow-tie thing is on the second page were work related doodles).

I never went ahead with this scene because I felt like if I were to show how Snake acquires one item from the game then I may set myself up having to create a sc...

Now to animate the final shot of the scene which will foreshadow Snake's capture.

Now to aminate.

Suneku Punch WIP

Scanned in some sketches from paper and brought in to draw the initial first frames. This shot will be in slow motion so each frame will have very slight movements with the soldier having the more broad movements as he drops while Snake will lower his right arm from a karate upper punch stance.
