BTtNR - Book 3 - Chapter 032 -

Einar studied the dwarf who sat across from him. Fotgror seemed more relaxed than any other dwarf he had encountered on this entire trip.  A small pipe filled with some tobacco rested between those large fingers, a small wisp of smoke drifting upward.

Inside Fotgror’s workshop were seven different stone tables, each one piled high with materials, vials that were bubbling, or other concoctions for some magical purpose.  Einar sat in his chair near the fireplace, two ...

Undying Blood - Chapter 26

Chapter 26

This is strange. We’re heading to the same spot Kels trained me in… how can he hope to help me level my skills faster when the enchantment doesn’t work like that?

Resisting the urge to say anything, Francis simply followed the one-armed man.

When they entered the tent, he saw Kels training, topless for the first time, sweating as before.

“General,” the knight said, immediately turning and bowing.

“Knight Kels, I have a task for y...

UL1 - Book 10 - Chapter 24

“Progress has been steady,” Edward said, swinging his sword at Max. “My team and I are already closing in on the fiftieth level.”

“Good,” Max replied, sending another barrage of attacks at the one he had chosen to be king of Tanila and his people. “Remember, what comes next is a decision only you and the others can make. The dungeon is dangerous, there are rules, and what lies inside was dangerous to even my party. It isn’t foolishness to choose not to fight there.” View Post

Chapter 25

Francis had made sure to remember all the names and details he could. Weaving a lie and making sure it was the same would be the only way he didn’t get tripped up when telling it.

At least he isn’t on his throne.

They had moved to a different section of the tent, past some curtains, which led to an area with cushioned couches and tables covered in food and drink. A servant had offered food before he turned him down.

“I’m good. Thank you, Y...

Weekly Update (Or is it...)

So you may have noticed a bunch of different things coming out in the recent days.

Even with life going crazy, I've been putting in work. My biggest problem is I can't sleep. Combine that with my brain always going and I've been getting up some days at 1am or 2am and writing for a few hours. This has allowed me to get a little bit more work than usual in.

So let's jump into the updates:

Ul1 - Book 10

I'm pretty sure I finished book 10. Going to give it a quick...

“Einar, I have come as I have promised with guests in tow,” Vrádni said. “It appears your arrival has garnered much attention from my brothers and sisters, and they need to see firsthand the Vikings that have come to uphold their promise.”

He nodded, and Einar gave a slight bow at the four dwarves who were standing behind Vrádni.  Each of the dwarves present had an aura of command that radiated from them.

“Allow me to introduce my brothers and sister,” Vrádni s...

“What in a trolls arse are you lot doing in the tunnel?!” a dwarf shouted at them.

Einar turned toward a massive dwarf, a scowl that could scare children or curdle milk that was stomping in their direction.

“Oh shite, that’s Vrádni Deepdelver,” Bartia whispered. “He’s the tunnel ranger and–”

“You four! Why did you take the tunnel!?” Vrádni continued to roar. “Don’t tell me Mosswalker approved this or I’m… I’m going to send him a nasty note!...

Chapter 24

Standing in Stenson’s tent, Francis wondered why the man lived like this, as nothing was special or gaudy.

He’s the general yet doesn’t have anything cool. How does someone in his position have so little?

Even the armor on different stands was functional and didn’t look different from that of most of the guards. The table was covered in maps, and the two bookshelves were stuffed to the gills with leather-bound journals, rolled-up parchments, and...

UL1 - Book 10 - Chapter 23

The Demon King, Gykewotik, grunted as Max finished his list of demands.

“All you want is for me is a guarantee that I will come the next time you summon a demon and that then you will inform me of what my actions have cost me?”

“I would be foolish to trade away such a thing as what I am owed,” Max said. “We both know if our positions were swapped, you would probably have me enslaved or worse to you for the rest of my existence.”

A low chuckle emanated fr...

Chapter 23

Francis could almost zone out through most of the first few moments, able to repeat everything as the previous time, earning some extra silver, punching a bully he hated, and securing a chain helm after having learned what not to say to the same armorsmith.

None of it seemed important anymore as he considered everything he had learned and knew what would come next. His mind was focused on telling his brother some of the truth about what was happening and tryi...

Taking a deep breath, Max steadied himself.

You’re sure about this?

No, but we need to test it and this is the best time and place to do so.  Again, we shouldn’t be in trouble as you’re more than just the physical side of things.  Still, with those two we have the added support if needed.

He took his sword and cut along his forearm, blood dripping as he activated his spell.

Chapter 22

A wave of energy shot forth from Stenson's blade as he swiped it at the incoming beasts, even though they were still over twenty yards away.

Two of them stumbled to the ground, their front two legs cut off as some spell or attack connected, sending them tumbling end over end.

The other two beasts turned and angled toward Stenson.

One moment, the general was in his saddle. Next, the man jumped off, rolled, and came to stand on his feet.

The veteran line collided against the enemy’s defenses that had formed faster than Francis had thought possible.

It was almost as if they had materialized out of thin air, appearing in the battle rows right after they had detected the attack.

“There are a lot of them!” Francis shouted. “How did they form up so quickly?”

“Did you expect them not to show up?” Stenson yelled back. “They’re trained!”

“This plan has left all of us defenseless!” Priscilla exclaimed. “Surely you cannot expect us to trust this--”

“Sage?” Stenson said, finishing the sentence for Priscilla.

She huffed, her blue eyes displaying no favor for the boy she glared at.

“Tell me, Francis. Do you believe this plan you and Stenson have devised is our best chance for survival?” the kingdom's ruler asked, his hand resting on the arm of his throne.

“So… how much do you trust me?” Francis asked.

“At this point, I have to believe that Egbus sent you to us, because there is no other explanation for your presence,” Stenson declared. “We’re in a war that we are about to lose, and yet, a Sage suddenly appears.  I’d run out on the battlefield naked with only a sword if I believed you spoke for Thonia.”

A chuckle came from Vella as she shook her head. “I pray the gods do not request such a...

“The problem is, we have been using artifacts to accomplish anything of value.  Our mages aren’t as strong as we wish, and the fact that we only have two who are barely master rank makes this all harder,” Stenson stated.

“Barely a master, he says,” mocked Vella. “The truth is, we only have a collection of nobles' children and those who answered the call.  None of them has had enough time to grow into the mages we need.  Anyone with fif...

“So, what do you wish to know?” Stenson asked as they moved through the chaos of the camp.

“I’d be interested in finding out why we stopped our attack? I mean, I understand we lost a lot of troops, but if what I just learned from Nehemiah is true, both sides should be hurting. Why haven’t you pressed the attack before?”

“And if we had and they used the spell which killed all those men, then what? Where would our elite and cavalry be?”

The sound of the morning bell rang out.

“ARGG!” Francis shouted, jerking himself upward and grabbing his neck.

The sound of horns announced the start of the battle, and seeing the armies advance from Francis' position left him breathless.

Rows and rows of soldiers moved out — the one he had been with was far out front, before the real fighters.

No longer was the enemy hidden by a row of men standing before him on the battlefield.

Now Francis could see that it looked like colored water running across the land toward the people of his kingdom, ready to sweep them a...

“He’s your father?!” Francis gasped, unable to hide his shock.

“Unfortunately,” replied Kels. “My dear mother apparently had a soft spot for injured animals and old men missing teeth.  How was she to know he could still sire a child?”

“Bah! Your mother knew exactly what she was getting into! It should be you she feels sorry for,” Nehemiah exclaimed as he turned toward Francis. “She lured me to her place, got me drunk, and then n...

Francis felt the shimmer of power wash over him as he stepped over a line of glowing red sand that encircled the King’s tent.

Upon placing both feet on the other side of the sand, the landscape around the tent changed. Light was everywhere like an early morning sunrise, even though it had been completely dark a second ago. An aura of energy also surged through his body, leaving him feeling recharged.

"TO ARMS! EVERYONE TO POSITIONS!"

Francis watched as his brother and the other two roused from their sleep.  He had already woken up, aware of when it would happen, and was trying to recall everything he had done the previous time.

"Left!"

Blood was pouring into his eyes from the gash in his scalp, yet all Francis could think of was wanting to kiss the armorer who had given the helmet.

A clawed swipe by a tiger-kin or something had struck his head partially, and while the claw had raked across his scalp, taking his padded cap off as well as some hair and flesh.

That had given him a chance to thrust--somehow, his attack hit home, piercing through the beast's side and into its chest. View Post

"Good news! I was just told we'll be moving out in two days! Five days earlier than expected!"

Francis listened and watched as murmurs came from the line of seventeen youths.  He couldn’t forget that two had already run away, and one more would today if everything happened as he remembered.

So… I can’t die… can I? Or I guess I can die or I’ll come back? To the same time and place? And with Fast Learner does that mean I can learn any skill?...

Something was building up at the end of the staff, some kind of force Francis could almost see, a shimmering purple and black orb.

He yelled, unsure why but it felt right. During his charge, he didn’t try to dodge, as he couldn’t tell how much time he had before whatever it was would be released.

Those yellow eyes seemed to brighten when he swung his sword at it, the mouth opening and some sound coming out that he couldn’t make out.

Max nodded, sitting in his chair at the table back in the main meeting room. Only he and their helper were present, everyone else having returned to their cities to help their people grow stronger.

He studied the list, seeing that there were creatures he hadn’t ever imagined or considered and wondered what their worlds were like.

Let’s avoid a golem again. Even if we killed it we may or may not...
