Doing lighting from the camera's angle is usually pretty challenging, but I managed to do well this time! I think because of the airbrush shading making it easier to add gradiations of value, where with cel-shading I can only add one or two levels of it.

The second image was the original one, but I figured he absolutely needed an AOE attack, so I replaced a second water gun attached to his waist with a water balloon. :3

You can see in the last two images how I changed the dialogue between when I originally posted it here, and now! I wanted to have Nes feel more in his own head, and to have Shadow's bullying projected onto him more. Shadow has his own insecurities that he projects through his bullying, which is what's queuing Nes to say, "that it's only a matter of time b-before..."

I spent so much time looking at this page in thumbnail form before drawing it, just because it was such a big moment that I wanted to make sure I got it right. You can see some rewriting i did with the dialogue (red text), but even then I ended up changing the dialogue while doing the page, and after posting it here too, even. In the next post (one hour from now), you can see how I changed the dialogue from two weeks ago!

This is the first page that wasn't in the original script! I thought this moment needed a little room to breathe, so I took a little dialogue from what was supposed to be the next page, added it to this one, and added some new panels in-between. You'll see come page 43... I mean 44!

Here's the finished product! Almost 20MB in size, and 8,000 pixels wide. I'm so glad my new computer can support working at that size. :D
UPDATE: I decided I wanted to flex a bit, so I added page numbers and text to pages in Dawn's book. Anybody without a full-res copy will never notice, you can't even read the text I put with a full-res version, but... I wanted to do it. XD The text actually does say something, but it's a good thing you can't read it, cause it might be...

This painting was a lot of fun to work on! It looks like Chance and Dawn are getting closer and closer. :3 I love working with afternoon lighting and warm colors because the way colors shift is a lot more predictable. Same for how shadows cast, and whether they're hard or soft.
Additionally, I learned something new with this painting! Do you see the floral pattern on the fox's shorts? If you combine a Soft Light layer with an Overlay layer, with the Soft Light layer set to grey an...
