Gallery editor

You can now edit albums through the gallery view on pixeldrain. The only feature left to do here is adding files to the album. That will be added next week.

Hello lovely Patrons,

I already alluded to this on twitter, but there are going to be some changes in how bandwidth is counted. Currently all subscriptions provide downloaders with high speed downloads and an ad-free experience. Your hotlink bandwidth cap is only used when you link to files directly from the API, but this feature is barely being used. Looking at my bank account, it's evident that this is not working out too well.

Can you help me improve pixeldrain?

If  you have any ideas for improving pixeldrain I would love to hear it!  I'm especially looking for features you would be willing to pay a little  bit for.

Pixeldrain's web interface is now open source

This allows anyone to see how it works and make improvements to the website. The API (the part which actually handles all the data) still remains closed for now. Maybe I'll open that up later.

Managing API keys

Pixeldrain now has a page where you can manage your API keys: https://pixeldrain.com/user/api_keys. On this page you can see on which devices you are logged in to your pixeldrain account. You can also use the delete button to log out from any of the devices. The user agent detection didn't work properly for a while so most of your keys will probably say "Go-http-client/1.1", this has been fixed too.

Storage limits

Hello patrons, I may have to start adding a storage limit to accounts soon. It has come to my attention that some people upload A LOT of stuff to their pixeldrain accounts (like everything in this world, it follows the Pareto Principle, 20% of the users use 80% of the space). This is fine and all, but as always there are some outliers which are pushing the limits of what's possible for €2...

Directly linking to files

Hey people. I'm working on a system for bandwidth accounting so I can allow you to directly embed files in your websites / apps or wherever. The idea is that every registered pixeldrain user gets a monthly data cap which will only be used up when files are downloaded directly (without going through the download page). When the data has been used up people will still be asked to enter a captcha when downloading files, but as long as you stay under the cap downloads are unlimited.

QR codes for sharing files

Pixeldrain now has a QR code button on the home page and on the file viewer. You can use this to generate a code for any file you want to share. Other people can scan the code with their camera and download the file. It even works when printed on paper!

New uploader

Hello patrons,

I have completely rewritten the home page uploader. It's now using the Svelte framework.

New features include upload time estimation, upload rate and better error handling.

Let me know if anything broke in the update or if you're still missing something :-)

File embedding is now supported!

There is now an Embed button on the file viewer which you can use to embed pixeldrain files on your own web pages.

Home page improvements

Today I made some small improvements to the home page.

You can now paste images from your clipboard to upload them. I also added keyboard shortcuts for all the buttons. The keys used to activate the shortcuts are underlined on the buttons themselves.

Apps page and custom ShareX uploader

There is now an apps page where I will post client applications written for pixeldrain. There is already a custom uploader for ShareX which will allow you to upload screenshots and files to your own pixeldrain account. 

There is also pdup which is a little bash script for uploading files from a terminal.

Subscription updates

Hello lovely patrons. This month I'm going to be working on pixeldrain's subscription options. The €2 plan will be renamed to Pixeldrain Pro, and this is the only one which will be advertised on the site. You can still subscribe to higher plans if you want to support the site (thanks!).

File manager update

Ads disabled on €2 tier

Hello,

I have installed some new advertisements because I did not have enough funding to pay for the servers. The new ads are more distracting than the previous ones, so I have now disabled ad display on the cheapest subscription too.

Hopefully I will be able to get some better servers now.

New text editor

The text upload page has been updated with a (hopefully) more modern look!

Some icon and alignment issues were also fixed in various places.

Automatically activating subscriptions

I finally managed to automate the process of activating subscriptions on pixeldrain through Patreon. Patreon's API is pretty terrible and also barely documented so this was a lot of work.

If you create, update or delete your Patreon pledge you will receive an e-mail with a link which allows you to activate your subscription on pixeldrain.

This process has not been tested a lot so please let me know if anything goes wrong :)

Account statistics and new €4 tier

I just finished adding the code which will keep track of the views, downloads, and bandwidth usage of the files you upload with your pixeldrain account. Downloads and bandwidth are now counted separately, they used to be one thing (downloads was simply bandwidth divided by file size). Now they are counted the same way as views. Downloads are only counted once per IP address per 24 hours.

Direct linking of files

Hello wonderful supporters. I'm working on direct file linking for Patreon supporters. With this feature you will be able to link / embed files directly without going through the file viewer.

Files which are direct linked won't count any views, because of this they would hit the bandwidth limit per file pretty quickly. All benefits have been implemented

Hello patrons!

I have finished implementing the subscription-based file expiry times. This means that tier 2 supporters  have files expire 2 months after the last time a file is viewed, tier 3 supporters 6 months and tier 4 supporters will never have their files expire!

This system assumes the functionality won't be abused. I may have to put a file storage limit in place if storage usage gets out of hand. This limit will of course also be adjusted to your subscription.

Hello Patrons! I have just activated the support tiers in your pixeldrain accounts. On your user profile you can see what features are currently active.

Ads on your files have been disabled. I'm still working on the longer expiry times. That's a bit more complicated to implement. I'll keep you posted.
