Guest Comic: Satellite 9
The last guest comic from this little interlude is up, and I bet you wanna read it! (Plus a newspost from our freshly-returned friend Psu.)
The last guest comic from this little interlude is up, and I bet you wanna read it! (Plus a newspost from our freshly-returned friend Psu.)
For our final guest comic of this little interlude, our friend Sat is gonna give us a four-panel strip featuring Austin Space and another new Regency character of her own creation.
The gag she wrote is so solid that it wouldn't matter if you had no idea what the backdrop was, honestly. But it's nice for Psu and I to enjoy people expanding our little fictional setting beyond what we've created, y...

Psu: Who knew a bunch of lithe pantsless women would be such popular characters?
Gunwild: For names, I went with Glimmer, Cascade, and Surge. 'Cuz they're all things that water does.
Psu: I feel like there's a good chance every alien species a science fiction story introduces is an opportunity to create a whole new toy line out of them. And I'd say the Dollfins would make a great action figure set.
Gunwild: They do...

Don't know an android from an amberoid? Time to let Nizka explain it all in this guest comic by Satellite 9.
Back at you with that once-a-month shameless advertising... here's a link to August 2018 Patreon-exclusive pinup!
For the month of Augustus we have decreed a Roman-themed dealie for $5+ patrons. And don't forget that the whole backlog is available to those people, too! Carpe noctem!
August is over, and you're being rewarded for your patience with a Patreon-exclusive pinup, live and ready! If you're new, don't forget to click the "pinup" tag below to enjoy the backlog. Next guest update is by one of our old hands, Satellite Nine. This is just a detail of one panel of particular importance... by the way, I've said this before, but all the guest comics are canon (even if it can be hard to see how). So keep that in mind!

Psu: Cassiopeia understands the value of being instantly legible and understandable! Especially for comics.
Gunwild: Plus she probably steals so much stuff that she doesn't do a lot of shopping...
While Psu is away, Shio has pitched in by drawing this guest comic... in which Warrant Officer Theira takes aim at that most elusive target, career advancement!
While Psu is overseas and has poor internet, our chum Shio was kind enough to put together a guest page that'll be up soon. And in color, no less! But here's a WiP shot. Say, whazzat on Theira's screen...?

Gunwild: I probably should have called for more underlining of this Green Martian lady's appearance at the beginning of the chapter, looking attracted to Lefyne. Her reappearing here seemed to confuse some people. But I like her, and enjoy continually sneaking her into Lefyne's appearances as a touch of continuity.
Psu: I think even though it could feel a little sudden, mostly because we never really got to see him banter with her (as we should presume she did...

For the month of Augustus, we decree that there shall be a pinup of Zeke and Cassiopeia on a planet improbably identical in culture to ancient Rome. What? Come on, that happened on Star Trek! In fact, it basically happened a bunch of times! It was an excellent way to be cheap and reuse costumes the studio had lying around...

Gunwild: Undervalued character design: Security robot with a truncheon in the background of the first panel.
Psu: Undervalued design, the friggen Fortunato Security Dropship that Madison's crew have borrowed. It's big force cushioning thrusters don't read perfectly in black and white but I think it looks enough like a space ship to work for us. My main mistake is that the casino chip design on the nose is using the wrong glyph for "F" which is to stand for the...

Further your education with this highly literary and informative Cassiopeia Quinn update! Or just read book summaries on Wikipedia or something, I dunno.
Gunwild: I feel sure I've mentioned this before, but I am terrible with all languages, English included, so if I used the wrong form of "good evening" for Lefyne there I apologize. I also think I've mentioned elsewhere that the joke about French being a little-known language in the future was based on kind of old information... when I was a kid, both Star Trek and Futurama made similar jokes. At the time, the population of French speakers was on the decline. No...

Another oddball WiP here: The top half of this page, as you can tell, already made it out. You can recognize it, with the lighting-up robots in the dark... that was a few pages ago, right?
What's different is that the bottom part was going to be how we revealed Maddy showing up, originally. But we agreed it was too soon, so those panels were excised completely. Now that we've actually done it I wanted to show you these, because I think there was good blocking, and a cool idea with giving Maddy...

The Prime Galactic Regency's mighty Navy protects your freedom!
Do your part!
Psu: Honestly that's still going to really really really hurt either way.
Gunwild: Yeah, let's just say she got lucky with the Doll-Fins show having already broken the surface tension for her! By the way, I like that the Doll-Fins have their own lifeguard medic lady, makes it clearer that they're not a fish tank full of dumb animals (or at least treated like them).
Psu: Oh yeah, they're totally professionals who are here to work! I...

This is kind of a weird one... it's a WiP that's actually been thrown out! We had to change the story beats a bit because of changes we want to make, and wanting to space things out better since Psu is going on a trip and all. How much of this crazy stuff like panel 4 will end up staying in the comic? Ehh, we'll see...

Well, lotion my back and shake the sand off my towel, it's the July 2018 Cassiopeia Quinn pinup!
By the way, just in case any of you new Patrons are having trouble, soon we'll begin back-linking the previous pinup posts in the new ones so that you can check out what you've missed. Although it should give you pretty quick access t...

Here's a thing we've never done before... this early sketch-out of the pinup for this month (Happy summer!) is accompanied, at out $7 tier, by concept art for it. Those people will get a better look at the swimsuit designs before the final thing is released... but of course, both the $5 and $7 guys will get the final pinup.
It'll be a hot one!
... I mean, obviously. Look at the sun. So bright.

Gunwild: And then Maddy fell and splatted. SERIES OVER.
Psu: Not that it was going to happen in our comic, at least not in the first couple years anyway, but I always paraphrase this comment I heard from Neil Gaiman. It went something like... go ahead and kill your character. Lots of interesting things happen after your character dies.
Gunwild: Tch, that's easy for him to say. He created one of the most popular depictions of death in mod...

If we're to be darned, let's be darned for what we really are... Cassiopeia Quinn readers!
Psu: Oh man, actual shading returns... this page is a little greyed out though. Still, it's a lively page even at just three panels. I enjoyed making sure that there were signs of life outside of the central adventure this entire chapter. Each of our chapters have a sort of theme that defines them visually different from the other chapter. And this one being set in a planet that's hal...

This is a page that Brellom and Psu are trying in a bit of a different way. Normally, the flats just isolate the different areas that need to be colored, and the color they are doesn't really correspond to what it ends up being. Now Brellom's trying to add generally the right one to save Psu a bit of time... we'll see how it goes.

That's what I look like when it's hot out and I'm saying "WHERE IS THE ICE CREAM SCOOP?! TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!"
Psu: That's it. That's the entire thing. I really like Cass's face there and I think it was one of the best expressions in the entire series. This page has quite a number of good ones. Didn't you get into a discussion with one of our friends about the line "...

Yeah, things aren't lookin' too good for ol' Zeke... but hey, panel 2 sure is nice, what with every character getting some facetime!
I also like panel 4. That's the face I make when I demand to know why people thought they could eat the last of the ice cream that I bought.
