Backstage Pass #17

On this week’s edition of Backstage Pass, I’ll be talking about…

Motivation for working on my comic! And you may be asking, “Woo, didn’t you already do a Backstage Pass on something like this?” And the answer is… Yes, technically. But that particular sense of burnout has a different distinction than what I’ve felt while working on the most recent buffer for OBT...

Trivia Tuesday 028

Trade across the continent is carried almost entirely on the shoulders of merchants- and Kecleon Market, but that's for another trivia piece. Merchants are spread far and wide, carrying a variety of goods depending on where their specialties lie. Some like to trade berries, others accessories and clothing, and some whatever trinkets they trip across. Merchants often like to cycle through three or four towns with their trade, exchanging stories and memories they've made along the way with ...

On this week’s edition of Backstage Pass, I’ll be talking about…

Collaborating with a colorist! This isn’t an experience I have often, so it was fun figuring it out.

Folks who attend my livestreams may know that for OBT pages 24 through 32, I actually enlisted in the help of my beta reader and partner Pika to help lay down flat colors on the characters to help save time and work faster! To make sure this process went as smoothly as possible, I would send o...

WIP Wednesday #1

First WIP Wednesday, and I wanted to share some thumbnails for upcoming pages/pages I'm currently working on! This chapter finally introduces one of my favorite characters to write, Yohann the Psyduck, who is the gateway to the gang's new outfit changes that I've been craving for years now.

Trivia Tuesday 027

For every pokemon that lives in a settlement, there are many more who choose to live outside settlements in what some refer to as "the wilds". Not every wild pokemon lives in solitude however, and wild pokemon don't always even live within mystery dungeons. Some wild pokemon build communities that more represent lifestyles that follow their ancestral roots, living off of the land and finding comfort in sleeping in the open air. Notable communities like this include the prides of Amp Plain...

Backstage Pass #15

On this week’s edition of Backstage Pass, I’ll be talking about…

Getting my cats. Yes, this is tonally a very weird Backstage Pass. But these segments aren’t supposed to just be about comic stuff, they’re meant to include more backstage-y stuff! And also I want an excuse to talk about my (now not so) new cats. You can skip this one if you’re not into animal talk! View Post

Trivia Tuesday 026

While not the only method for evolving, evolution springs are a common way pokemon choose to evolve due to being much easier to access than other methods, and for the ability to still evolve during times of crisis. These springs tend to attract groups of eeveelutions, who tend to these springs out of a sense of duty thanks to their adaptable nature. The shining rocks that reside in these springs contain special properties that aid in evolution, and are referred to as universal evolution s...

Backstage Pass #14

On this week’s edition of Backstage Pass, I’ll be talking about…

Injuries from art! Or more accurately, my experiences with it, because I’m not a certified physical therapist and can’t give actual advice other than from what I’ve learned about.

If you do art or any sort of repetitive task involving hands, you might be well acquainted with injuries, and they s...

Trivia Tuesday 025

Superstitious parents of children with nightmares will often find ways to try warding off bad dreams using common talismans said to keep the Nightmare King, Darkrai, at bay- ranging from burning incense sticks made from rosewood, to crafting dolls that resemble Cresselia (the bane of nightmares), to even scattering what are said to be the lunar feathers of Cresselia's wings. It's difficult to say whether or not these methods actually work, but they certainly are effective in putting child...

Soundboard May 2021

And with the latest newsletter posted, here is May's soundboard!  For the uninitiated, these are an opportunity for patrons to ask questions in a semi-public setting. Have any trivia or backstage topics you wanna see covered? Have a question about scheduling? Fire away!

Or if you want, feel free to share how you're doing lately! I for one have been getting sunburns left and right despite my best efforts to slather myself in sunscreen. I probably need to get a higher SPF.

Hello, and welcome to this week’s Patreon Newsletter (now in text post format)! This is to keep patrons up-to-date with the goings-on of OBT with schedules, behind-the-scenes, and more! These will be posted on a bi-weekly schedule and help give an idea of what’s to come each month for my Patreon.

Trivia Tuesday 024

One common (and recently developed) method of transportation in OBT is the railway system. Steam engines have been carefully crafted following instructions translated from ancient texts, with some modifications made to suit individual pokemon conductors. These railways connect between towns across the continents, though are becoming threatened by the growing presence of Mystery Dungeons which have the potential to wreak havoc on the rails. As a result, countless talismans have been placed...

Trivia Tuesday 023

Psychic types are often thought to be the most powerful type due to their telekinetic abilities and influence over most forms of matter- but it's not as simple as thinking of something and it happens.

Oftentimes, simple telekinetic maneuvers require an immense amount of training and concentration in order to pull off. Levitation on its own is extremely difficult and can take months to master, let alone trying to use said levitated objects as effective projectiles. Objects l...

Trivia Tuesday 022

Rudimentary type theory is a school of thought that some pokemon species may derive from elemental backgrounds that differ from their actual typing- usually this manifests in their appearance, movepool, or evolutionary line leaning towards types that are not actually attributed to their species (usually determined by what they're resistant to). Notable examples of this phenomenon are the Flygon line resembling bug-types, Gligar having many poison-type moves, and of course, the Luxray line...

Trivia Tuesday 021

When a pokemon faints in a Mystery Dungeon, an interesting phenomenon occurs where the ley lines of the dungeon arrange themselves in such a way that they carry the pokemon out and near the entrance of the dungeon. This occurrence seems to only happen if the pokemon has passed out from sheer physical exhaustion- sleeping, being conscious with injury, or any other conditions don't seem to cause this reaction within Mystery Dungeons. Nobody is sure of why ...

Trivia Tuesday 020

Tail splitting for Vulpix may seem to be an indication of maturity or age, but it more accurately reflects personal emotional growth of the individual effected. It's uncommon but not impossible to see a very young Vulpix develop all 6 tails before adulthood, or an adult who only has 3 or 4 tails. Either way, a Vulpix must develop all 6 tails before being able to evolve into Ninetales.

A freshly split tail will sometimes ache for a short pe...

Backstage Pass #13

On this edition of Backstage Pass, I’ll be talking about…

My experiences with pixel art! Which I think is a very underrated art form. People who can manage to do it all the time are real champions.

Since PMD is a DS game, it clearly has a lot of pixel art. It sort of comes with the territory, and when I want to mimic certain aspects of the game, I gotta dip my toes i...

Trivia Tuesday 019

When Malachi gets a certain distance away from Maelstrom, she "deactivates" and is unable to talk and no longer aware of her surroundings. She doesn't like being left behind and will give him an earful if he spends too long without her, claiming that he could be missing "important Champion tasks".

Trivia Tuesday 018

The Guildmaster is very large for a Wigglytuff, averaging about 6 inches to 1 foot taller than other members of his species. Some speculate he may have some Clefable in his ancestry that leads to this added height, but he honestly doesn't know where he gets it from.

My end of the year reflection for OBT! I think I speak for a lot of folks when I say 2020 was not what we expected.

Backstage Pass #10

The speech bubble tool on CSP! I’ll admit that this Backstage Pass is just me gushing about the text bubble tool on CSP, but can you blame me?? It’s super cool!

So backing up a bit, you may know that part of the reason I switched to using CSP for OBT was that it provided many more tools that are <...

Trivia Tuesday 017

All members of the Vulpix line have full, lengthy heads of fur that can be styled in various ways depending on the individual and what cultures they come from. This hair grows continuously and needs high maintenance at risk of it becoming shaggy and unmanageable- as a rule of thumb, most individuals choose to let it grow no longer than their chin to prevent it from getting in the way of daily tasks. Some eccentric individuals allow it to grow much longer, with record lengths reaching some...

On Borrowed Time: Chapter 3, Pages 29-33

And now it's time to share the remaining buffer pages I currently have for OBT! Fight scenes are tough to put together, but it was a fun experience to do a more coordinated fight, even if Rune caused some issues by jumping in sooner than the team hoped.
